I SO remember those nut and fruit stockings! I loved the juicy tangerines. My salivary glands just cramped up thinking about it! ROFL! And then trying to get those damblasted Brazil nuts open. I loved the nuts inside, but you had to use a freaking hammer and blast the shell all over the place. Walnuts were easier to open, but not as tasty as the Brazil nuts. What a memory!

I had a book bag similar to that one in the picture, also. I had totally forgotten. When I saw the pic, I could remember the smell of it, even. :)

I like cashews, too, but I don't eat them often. Very high in Omega 6, I've heard.

I found shelled Brazil nuts at nuts.com! From Bolivia! ROFL! I wish they weren't so expensive, I'd have a new nut habit.... ;) All the goodness with none of the aggravation!

I always liked nuts grown right here in the states. Walnuts, hickory nuts, and pecans. Depending what part of the country you live in, you probably don't have to buy them. Just collect a 5 gallon bucket of them, and store some in the freezer until you want to chow down on them.

I get Organic Brazil nuts shelled at Costco, $10 for a pound and a half bag.

A lot of people don't know this about Brazil nuts but if you eat 2 Brazil nuts it gives you a full day supply of vitamin E plus minerals

This forum is really bringing me down lately. It's soooo slooooow... Half the time, I can't reply or log out, and sometimes, even the "like" is so slow I give up. However...

I just watched this last night! I had recorded it when it was on, and then last night, when I had time to sit and watch it, I enjoyed it fully. This used to come on right around my birthday when I was a kid (I guess it still does), and sometimes it was even ON my birthday, which made it extra special. I was just thinking last night how the songs take me back to those feelings of anticipation, mostly for Christmas, because I didn't get birthday presents. I did always get a cake, though, and sometimes candy bars or quarters or something from my siblings. Mom and Dad always made sure to get me some extra special Christmas gift that I really wanted, to make up for no birthday presents. It was too close to Christmas, and the other kids would wonder why THEY didn't get early Christmas presents. That's what they told me. I think they just didn't have enough money all in one month for Christmas for 5 kids AND a birthday. But Rudolph always made it the happiest birthday for me. :)

And then, and I guess this would be a grand birthday present, my dad took us kids to the IceCapades at the Portland Coliseum. All the beautiful costumes and the ice skating just took my breath away. I loved going to that. It might not have been, but I always considered that my birthday present from Mom and Dad.

What wonderful memories...

I wish we had Costcos around here, but we don't. If we did, I'd get me some of those Brazil nuts. I should check at Sam's, maybe they have them, too.

Well, whaddya know? Sam's DOES carry them, but only for a limited time (I guess around Christmas?), and they're OUT OF STOCK. Maybe next year, if I'm quicker about it, I can get my hands on some.

Ahhhh, do you remember the SMELL of a mimeo?

Who remembers havin a Bread Box?

No photo description available.

I still have, and use, the old family breadbox, which is even older than that Harvest Gold one. Mine is white enamel with a copper drop-down door, and wood inside the door to cut the bread on. (I don't, though.)

I used to get these for a penny a roll, and one day I spent a whole dollar (a HUNDRED of them) and proceeded to sit on the curb and eat the whole bag while waiting for the activities bus that came at 4:30. I was in the 7th grade. No brains. ;) But I had an hour and a half to eat all those Smarties.

City kids... LOL! I'm IN a barn twice a day every day, but not playing. Just working.

We heated THIS house with coal for several years, but wood was free so we started using wood when the coal ran out. We live in a very old house.

Match dispenser

Thank you! I remembered seeing one of those when I was a kid, but I could not for the life of me remember what the heck it was. Now I can see the matches in it. It was on the wall down in my grandmother's basement, next to her little woodburning stove. Duh. Back when they were "strike anywhere" matches, of course. ;)

WHO IS OLD ENOUGH TO REMEMBER WHEN BAND-AIDS HAD A LITTLE RED THREAD THAT ONE PULLED TO OPEN THE STERILE WRAPPER...
🩹

Yeah, whatever happened to that? Now you have to try to CAREFULLY tear the paper down the little bitty margin and then finagle the stupid Band-Aid out, all the while bleeding all over the counter. Makes NO sense to me. It's easy to do when there's only a tiny bit of blood, but in an emergency, forget it. Sometimes I wish I could just staple myself. It would be a lot easier. ;)

old rags and duct tape works in a pinch even on larger size wounds...just saying!
and don't ask me how i know.

I always use duct tape as the final wrap, because Band-Aids don't stick anymore like they used to. Ooooh, they might hurt somebody when they rip them off! Oh, noooo! Can't have that! BAH! Sometimes I just use a folded paper towel and duct tape, but that involves folding and scissors, and actually takes a bit longer than a Band-Aid. However, if it needs more than two Band-Aids, then I go straight to the paper towel and duct tape option. Sometimes superglue helps, too. What on earth would we do without superglue and duct tape?
