And they were hard wired without an RJ-11 jack.

Ma Bell (AT&T) was declared to be a monopoly and broken up into the baby Bells. There were 8 of them including ATT long distance. Now they've been merged down to 3: Quest, AT&T, and Verizon. And Bell Telephone? They were going to rule the world! What happened, anyway?
These were from the id 50's and never went over well, their time was short lived.I don't believe I've ever seen those, although I would have LOVED them! Like the original peanut butter cup?
Such a shame we live in the greed driven world we live inMa Bell (AT&T) was declared to be a monopoly and broken up into the baby Bells. There were 8 of them including ATT long distance. Now they've been merged down to 3: Quest, AT&T, and Verizon.
Western Electric, owned by AT&T, used to have the monopoly in supplying the central office equipment as well as the home phones to Ma Bell. The ruling opened that up so other manufacturers could provide phones and central office equipment. I used to work for several of the central office equipment suppliers.

These used to flash to the beatWow, I never had one of those! Cool!
My boyfriend in high school was one of those nerds that built his own stereos and TVs (I am still in awe of his talents!), so I guess something like the above flashy contraption would have been "beneath" him, and by association, me, too. I remember saving up my money so I could buy an Akai stereo. I still have that stereo, and if I got radio signals out here and had some decent speakers, it still works. I paid $35 for that Akai back in the mid-70s sometime, I forget when exactly. That was a TON of money back then, but it was NICE, so it was worth every cent. I loved the feel of the knob turn, how smooth and perfect it was. You just don't find that kind of precision these days.
I wish they woulda never quit givin out stamps, for a kid that was a big deal to see what you could get

I loved those dresses! They were so summery, and comfortable, too.
I just finished making a batch of homemade peppermint ice cream with milk and cream from my cow. Everything tastes better when it's made the old fashioned way, by hand. I made a batch of chocolate fudge sauce to go on top, too. Guess what's for dinner tonight? It's going to top out at 97 today, says the weather guesser.sed![]()

That just reminded me of something that happened long long ago. I was 9 years old, and my adoptive parents biological daughter was 6. She wanted to go see Grandma, who lived 4 or5 blocks away. We had been there enough times that I remembered the way, so we walked there, and knocked on the door. She had a boyfriend over, apparently for a good time, and was very upset about our arrival. She hated me ever since. We "sorta" snuck in every weekend. We lived a few blocks from it, and it was situated right at the base of a butte. So we all went up and sat at the base of the butte, one of the guys hopped the fence and turned on a speaker in the back row, and we watched the movies. I saw Fritz the Cat that way. That's how old I am. Lots of other movies, too, but that was my first X-rated movie, LOL!
A few years later, same drive-in, I was at another X-rated movie with my boyfriend (in a car this time, LOL!) and as we were walking back from the concession stand, who should jump out of a random car and accost me but my MOTHER! She said, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?" and I shot right back, "What are YOU doing here? and WHO IS THAT?" Hmmm... she had a new boyfriend she hadn't bothered to mention to us kids. Yeah, the pot and the kettle... she was really mad that night but later she decided it was pretty funny and we had a good laugh about it.
Drive-ins were SO much fun, even if the sound was really shitty!
