I learned to make bechamel sauce in Home Ec, and it's probably the best and most important thing I learned about cooking. The other thing I learned was I love to cook!
My aunt had harnesses and leashes to keep her kids in tow when she had to take them to the department store when they were little. She always got the most horrible looks, and comments from women telling her what a monster she was to keep her kids on leashes! I can understand, totally. She had four horrible brat kids who would have been all over the place, probably breaking things, if not for being tethered. She would just smile and walk on. I miss my Aunt.
My popcorn machine was a saucepan with a lid.
Oh, Madge, she was a staple on TV. But does anyone remember the scene on Star Trek Next Generation where Dr. Crusher is twitterpated and goes to the spa for a makeover? Notice what she was soaking her fingernails in? YES! It was Palmolive! I almost died the first time I saw that episode!
The Blue Bonnet butter girl!
Funny. It looks like everyone is saying Grace, but Dad must be hungry - he already has his hand on the meat and potatoes!
I'm having a hard time liking the memes that are AI generated. I don't like AI one bit, and I don't even like to like one of its "creations." How many things can you find wrong with the "little boys fishing?"
I had one! My ex and I had to stay in a small apartment when the people that owned the house we were renting sold it out from under us. We lived in that tiny apartment for almost a year, sleeping on the damnably uncomfortable sleeper bed every night, because the bedroom was full of boxes. It was so nice to get another house that we could actually have our nice king size bed back. The sleeper sofa was better than sleeping on the floor, but not by much! LOL!
I think they saved our sanity. They let us find stuff out on our own. They said, "Don't touch the stove" but they didn't rope off the kitchen or wrap us in bubble wrap. Mom kicked us out of the house on weekends and told us to be back by dark. We learned how to live, how to do things, how to survive on our own. I was truly an adult by the time I was 17 years old. Can't say that about any current 17-year-olds. I was babysitting my younger siblings when I was 10 so Mom and Dad could have a night out for dinner once in a while (even though the neighbor knew and was keeping a quiet eye on me, LOL!). By the time I was 13, I was babysitting for the neighbors, including infants. I was a responsible person because my parents taught me to be responsible. Thank God for that.
