Reading physical comics, especially single issues, can take up a ton of space on your shelves. I'm the first to admit that I had to give up on this hobby a while back as I quickly ran out of space due to having 10+ short boxes of singles I had to adjust my living space for. Even trade paperback graphic novels can be taxing on your bookshelf. Thankfully, digital comics are a much more convenient way to read your favorite ongoing series.

For Prime Day, which runs from now until June 26, Amazon is offering the 16 GB Kindle Colorsoft model for $159.99, down from its original listing of $249.99, saving you $90 on the best way to read digital comics. This is also the lowest price we've ever seen on this tablet.

Kindle Colorsoft Deal at Amazon Today

The Kindle Colorsoft sports a new 7-inch high-contrast display on an off-white paper-like color instead of pure white, making it easier on the eyes for longer reading sessions. It's optimized for reading in color compared to the Kindle Paperwhite, which is tuned for basic black and white. You can adjust the backlit display to read in essentially any light, and it's even waterproof if you want to take it to the beach or poolside. Compared to other Kindle models, it has one of the longest-lasting battery lives, with a single charge lasting up to eight weeks. You'll need a USB-C to charge the tablet, but luckily one is included.

The Kindle Colorsoft may be the best way to read digital comics conveniently, but you of course can read regular books on it as well. So if you're a Kindle Unlimited subscriber, your collection will carry over seamlessly, combining your collection of eBooks and digital comics. If you don't subscribe, check out our handy Kindle Unlimited subscription guide for everything you need to know.

Kindle Colorsoft vs. Kindle Paperwhite

The Kindle Paperwhite is also on sale today for its lowest price ever, so you may be wondering what some of the key differences between the two are. Both reading tablets feature e-ink displays and a 7-inch screen, but the Colorsoft is slightly more expensive even with the discount. The main difference is that the Kindle Paperwhite does not let you read in color. You can still download and enjoy comics on it, but they will only be available in black and white.

Do you need a cover?

Unlike the Kids Editions, neither of these devices come with a case or cover included in the price. Because both the Colorsoft and Paperwhite have the same size screen, the best Kindle Paperwhite cases are pretty much interchangeable with the Colorsoft. Amazon also has a Kindle Colorsoft Essentials bundle that includes a cover and a power adapter alongside the discounted price.

You don't necessarily need a cover, but it is a nice-to-have Kindle accessory. The latest Kindle models all include a feature that will automatically put the screen to sleep when you close the cover and activate the screen when you open it. The same thing can be accomplished with the little button on the bottom, but it feels a lot more like you're reading a physical book when you use a cover.

Should You Wait for Black Friday Prices?

This is the lowest price we've ever seen on the Kindle Colorsoft by about $10. It dropped down to $169.99 during Amazon's Big Spring Sale as well as Black Friday 2025, but it's never been this low before. So with that in mind, this deal is absolutely worth picking up right now if you're in need of a new Kindle. It's likely that we'll see this price again either during Amazon's Prime Big Deal Days sale in October or during Black Friday later this year, but there's no guarantee it will be this low again. If you don't want to wait for an upcoming sale, I'd suggest picking this up right now.
