Based on the books by Lev Grossman, The Magicians, debuting Monday night on Syfy, tells the story of Quentin Coldwater (Jason Ralph), a graduate student accepted into Brakebills College, a school that will hone Quentin’s real life magic skills. As Quentin learns about an amazing world he never knew was real, his best friend, Julia (Stella Maeve), goes on a very different path, after not being accepted into Brakebills – instead gaining magical knowledge from a secret society.

On a visit to the Vancouver set of The Magicians, I spoke to Gamble (a Supernatural veteran) about what appealed to her about the project, how the story will develop moving forward, the decidedly adult content The Magicians contains and her response to those comparing the story to Harry Potter.
