Quentin delivered the bottom line in this week's trippy episode of The Magicians, which was both completely different from anything the Syfy series has done to date and its best episode yet. That's a good sign for The Magicians, which is only four episodes into its 13-episode run and already taking big gambles that are paying off.

It turns out that The Magicians is a show to surprise us, like tossing a "Normal Again"-type twist into the fourth episode of its season. "The World in the Walls" opens with Quentin back in the mental hospital somehow, where he's told that Brakebills is something he made up and he's not actually a magician. It's clear pretty quickly that he is caught in a spell... or is he? (OK, to be fair you never think he isn't, but at least the show does a good job of walking that line for half the episode.)
