Cal's devious, opportunistic side started to blossom more fully this week as "The Future" took the time to pit Eddie against Cal in a much more direct way.
Both men entered the series with secrets. Which was one of the most initially interesting things about this show. How it was about a truth/light-based cult that was riddled with secrets. Of course, the Meyerist movement doesn't think people are perfect or incapable of lying, but I enjoyed the outright juxtaposition of two of the leads carrying heavy burdens while inside a "movement" that was all about actively stepping out of the shadows of ignorance.
Cal was keeping a big secret (along with a few other elders) while Eddie, unknowingly, knew Cal's big secret. And then what Eddie knew led to Eddie lying about Miranda...and so on and so forth. And "The Future" then brought everything back around in a type of closed loop. Miranda reported Eddie's doubts to Cal - who then either totally gaslit her into thinking she had the affair or simply convinced her to lie to founding figures Bill and Felicia.
