The Venture Bros. Season 6 has settled into a comfortable formula over the past several weeks, and "It Happening One Night" didn't do much to rock the boat. Once again a new group of parody villains surfaced to menace the Venture family, only for Blue Morpho and Kano to bumble their way into wiping these new villains off the map. It's a formula that has worked and continues to work, thought not quite as well this time around.
These episodes are only ever going to be as strong as the villains that headline them, and unfortunate the Doom Factory weren't quite up to the task this week. The idea of a a team that mashes up the campy silliness of The Legion of Doom, the quirky characters of Doom Patrol and the surreal, pop art shtick of Andy Warhol sounded promising. And there were definitely some fun moments as Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer acquainted viewers with meek visionary Wes Warhammer and his peculiar brand of villainy. Warhammer's video threat ripping off Warhol's infamous 6-hour Empire State Building "movie" was an especially nice touch. Warhammer's also henchmen made for amusing sight gags, whether it was the Wasp/Green Fairy mash-up or erotically charged Frankenstein's Monster known as Exquisite Corpse.
