There's something fascinating about the use of advancing futuristic technology to evoke feelings of a more primitive by-gone era, and the Game Frame is a perfect example of modern tech meets retro design.
The Game Frame is an LED-lit, IR-remote controlled "picture frame" capable of displaying pixel art, the current time, or simple 8-bit animations.
Originally created as a Kickstarter project, the first Game Frame was successfully funded and went out to backers. After that, maker Jeremy Williams stopped building the devices and instead "started from scratch on a fresh design." Hence the newest revision, which combines the game and clock features of the original "into a single firmware" thanks to a Teensy-LC microcontroller.
