Training Day, CBS' new TV show based on the 2001 film of the same name, is not a retread of the movie. There are plenty of similarities, sure, but Training Day the show also has a lot in common with another movie-to-TV adaptation: Fargo. At least, according to executive producer Will Beall.
"One of the first things we talked about was not redoing the movie. The movie is its own thing, this iconic, classic crime story. We sort of considered that sacred ground in lots of ways," Beall told reporters at a Television Critics Association winter press tour panel for his new series.
The creative team -- which also includes superproducer Jerry Bruckheimer, Barry Schindel and Training Day movie director Antoine Fuqua -- decided to model their show after FX's award-winning adaptation instead.
