The 140 character limit for tweets has been a staple of Twitter since its launch in 2006, but that will soon change. The popular social media site is working on a new feature that will allow users' tweets to be longer.
According to Re/code and its sources, the new limit for tweets may be up to 10,000 characters long, the same length as the site's Direct Message feature, which was expanded last year. While that limit may fluctuate before the new feature is finalized, it's expected to roll out as early as the end of Q1 2016.
