It's wire. *shrug* Seems to cost about the same as "unbranded" wire.

IMO, wire is wire.
A1 Kenthal has to be made a certain way to be grade A1. Ni200, same thing.

So it comes down to price. You can pay 1 cent a foot, or 10 bucks a foot, your still getting the same A1 Kenthal.

wire coming from different mills, will have different manufacturing procedures, and quality checks. i'm trying to figure out where UD saved pennies (fit/function/finish).

Different mills outside the USA, sure.

I don't buy wire from China. I get all my wire stateside.

What you imply is the same as saying 316 grade stainless steel has different properties from different mills. That's just not true. It has to meet certain criteria to BE grade 316 in the US. China is a whole different ball of wax.

This is the reason I NEVER bought china e-juice.

Just to be clear, MOST of my wire is from lightning vapes. I bought my wire in 100 ft spools. At the time, they had the best price, and I picked it up on Amazon. I haven't bought any in a while, so I'd check around.

I will need to start shopping wire before long again. Making claptons it doesn't take long to eat up a 100 ft spool of 36 Gauge on claptons outter wrap.

i'm using Vapowire from my B/M right now. it only comes in 30' spools and is outrageously priced. selling wire 30g or finer in lengths shorter than 100' should be against the law, lol.

the small spools were great for getting started, and see if 1) i could make coils 2) i enjoyed making coils. the answers to both questions is a resounding YES!! the FHO has been checking my work, and is impressed. she has green lighted large spool purchases. i'll be very honest in saying that i'm hoping to make money off of my coils at some point. i've done it with fishing flies, i know i can do it with coils;)

i'll add lightning vapes to my research list.

The exception is almost all wire we use is made in China. Even Kanthal.

I'm not anti china made. When it comes to wire and juice, I get in on this side of the pond. As Zam suggests, maybe all the wire IS made in China. Don't know.

I do at least believe, that wire that people like lightning vapes buys (among others) has the wire made to a better standard and/or does something to make the wire cleaner/better when they respool it.

If you ever bought knock off coils, you would know what I mean. Knock off coils are shitty. IMO, that's because the cotton/coils are not made to the same standards and are dirty. The flavor in knock offs is not right.

cleaning wire costs money. that would account for the shitty taste.

i have a spool of 2*28 twisted that i'll use for farting around, but i guess that will be the end of that wire company.

It has an "off" flavor, to me. The UD Chinese wire specs are, shall we say, more lenient when it comes to what is and what isn't kanthal A1.

sure would like to see those chinese wire specs youre talking about

That's one of the reasons to pulse your builds before you wick them. Even American made wire can be "not so clean", yet adhere to very stringent specs as to the content of the wire itself.

it is not so much the specs of the metal i think, but how the wire is finish.
cheap worn out drawing dies will leave micro scratches in the wire. if the wire isn't properly cleaned after drawing there will be oil still in those scratches. this would taint the taste of the wire, imo.

so your thought is that it is the problem is with the metal itself?

I've never bought any UD before but ordered a 30ft spool of SS 316L the other day from Origin Vapes. I should have it tomorrow. I couldn't find SS 316L in stock from any other supplier.

Their tools are pretty good. I have the coil jig set pictured below, and absolutely love it.

Pretty cool.

I have a "Universal Tool" that is sorta like that. Does that one come in a nice case where everything fits in it pretty nice?

I've never tried it, buy I've heard lead is REAL EASY to coil. But I've also heard that the coils can't take the heat like kanthal can. Or nichrome. Or soap.
