Unusual question : taste gone from RDA's after the flu

Hi there,

As the subject states, this is an unusual question : almost 3 weeks ago, I got the flu. Nothing special one might say but it was a nasty variant and my "system" (read : my body) struggled with it for over 2 weeks. As vaping was rather impossible (due to the extensive coughing), I let it sit until after my recovery. So... The last couple of days I'm back to normal and grabbed my vaping gear. But : I noticed that the vapes from my RDA's are... horrible? Even if I just smell the resulting smoke, my nose reports it as it being "weird" and it doesn't correspond to the ejuice used. Tried my Zenith, my Veritas, my 454 and so on... Always the same result :-( And the strange thing is : vaping from a Kangertech tank (the Emow) does give a somewhat normal taste. Not as "full" as my RDA's (before the flu) but still, a taste that resembles the ejuice...

So : what's happening? Still a result from the flu? As my gear and coils and method(s) of rebuilding are still the same?

my guess would be dehydration.
I know a few people that had that nasty, month long flu bug and it screwed them all up.

Dehydration? Normally I drink more than enough (just my way of healthy living) - but I'll just stick it on that flu ;-) I feel better but I think it's still in my system and messing up my senses (eg : tried drinking one my favourite rums last Saturday and it tasted horribly - not as "refined"). So one month long and they were also screwed up? Not a nice thing to hear of course but still comforting and hopeful that the flu might be the reason.

Thanks for your reply!

Yes, the flu can effect your sense of smell/taste (they work together) for a period of time AFTER getting over the flu.

I once had a nasty flu, it lasted only about 7 days. On about the 5th day, I tried to eat for the first time since I had been sick, well I couldnt taste anything either. I got my taste back on the 7th or 8th day. So yeah, not as extreme as your case but I think its possible to lose your taste/smell for awhile

If I leave an atomizer sit unused for too long, I usually dry-burn and rewick, otherwise the stale leftover juice inside tastes gross and/or metallic. Just a thought...

The flu affects people differently. Last bout I had left me without a sense of smell for a couple weeks. Your taste buds will rebound, in the mean time vape some low flavor juice in a tank till you get your taste back.
