I dunno the finish looks really nice on it, BUT if you don't have any furniture in the same(ish) shade in the same room as you are using it in, you may want to refinish it. Then again I don't know if it is made of real wood or that awful particle board crap. If it is particle board then don't mess with it because then it will start to fall to pieces.

I did exactly the same thing. Neighbor was moving, put a nice shelf out for free and I had it in my apt within 5 min of it being put on the curb. No cares about matching furniture at this point. I'll worry more about that when I move into a nicer place :)

Nice find, can't beat the price. Agreed, staining might be an option if it's real wood and if you're up for a bit of a project and picky about matching finishes. As celticluvr pointed out if it's particle board with a veneer or wood grained vinyl finish don't try to do anything to it and leave it as is. Pressboard furniture with the wood colored paper finish won't take stain or anything and if it's a true wood veneer still might want to be careful. They're usually a very thin veneer and won't take much sanding to burn right through it, maybe a very light hand sanding if that's the case before refinishing.
