VG and coils?

I was at a vape store with a friend today and she was asking about coils and mentioned a juice she liked...I wasn't paying much attention, but I heard the guy say something in regards to the high VG being rough on her coils. I have no idea what that meant as I only caught part of the conversation. So, I ask you guys, if you want to run a juice at 80%+ VG, do you have to have special coils for that? I like the Ni200 coils and my body does not do well with PG so I am looking at juice that is at least 75% VG. Only thing I know about that is it is a thicker juice.

I run v80/p20 all the time on everything from under .2 to 1.0 ohm. Definitely more viscous - If in doubt, give it a little more time between hits, take a non-firing quick-puff here and there. I pin-prick the cotton on the sides of most of my coils before I install them to soften the cotton up a bit for better wicking.

Assuming you're running low-resistance / TC stuff already, Imma think you'll be fine anyway...

Great advice on pin pricking the cotton...never thought of that! I run TC and low resistance already....I at least learned that much here hehehe

first of all, VG has ten times the viscosity of PG, so when using a high VG juice you need to have good wicking methods and make sure your cotton is keeping up with your chain vaping. Although burning coils without liquid is definitely hard on them, i don't find high VG juices to generally be an issue, for keeping wet anyhow. It's hard to assume what a third person was thinking when he said that, but i personally only have an issue with VG "caramelizing" on coils. It gives the initial look of a burnt coil but after a scrub with a brass brush, you se that you simply have a dark coating of, what i assume to be, sugars....and VG is very sweet.

One way to get a better understanding of coils and how they are affected by, well, all kinds of things, is to get a dripper and start experimenting. I personally find airflow issues to be more detrimental than wicking issues for the actual metal coils, or just simple misuse. 50/50 juices are going to be a thing of the past in short time and the manufacturers seem to be doing pretty well with coil design, adding more holes for juicing etc. I run max VG in many factory tanks without issue, outside of the caramelization which can clog things up a little but can be washed out of the cotton with boiling water.

good advice above, i use a dental expolorer or a 24ga needle to prick, and sometimes poke holes in, kangertech factory coils.......cuz they're terrible. also i can use tweezers and ever so slightly pull a bit of the cotton out of the juice hole

Its not rough on coils but you will need to replace premade coils more often or dryburn rebuildable coils as they tend to have more "build up" on them from higher VG or sweeter juices faster then lower VG juices

Wow, loads of great info here. Thanks all, appreciate the help. Still trying to learn all this. One day I hope to make my own coils. But right now I am trying to just understand it all
