That's the lesson characters have learned again and again on The Walking Dead as Melissa McBride's character has come into her own over the seasons, evolving into arguably the best developed and executed character on the AMC series.
The latest episode, "The Same Boat," once again put Carol front and center after some of Negan's people captured her and Maggie (Lauren Cohan). Carol quickly slipped into "cowering Carol" mode to protect her pregnant friend, but it soon became unclear whether she was actually as emotional as she seemed or whether it was all an act.
