Want to quit smoking cigarettes and get a vape, where do I start?

Hello, I don't know if this is the right place to put this, but I want to quit smoking cigarettes. I \t costs too much money buying 2-3 packs a week at around 8 a pack, but there are so many different e cigarettes and vape pens I have no clue where to start. I was looking at the Kanger subox mini, is it any good? I have around 100 to spend at the moment. Any and all help appreciated and suggestions welcomed. Thank you.

Welcome to the VU.
There are a lot of different set-ups. Only you can decide what is right for you. I'm sure others will come here with what they are using and you have to pick.
I use: an Aspire Nautilus Mini powered by an Istick 20 (don't get the 20watt, the 30watt is better and about the same price now) You should be able to buy one online for about $50 or less.
Next will be "what flavor?" I started out going to Heartlandvapes and getting a couple of their sample packs.
Remember your tastes will change as you get your ability to taste again after quitting the smokes.

I'm new to the vape world and I have the Kanger Subox mini. I love it. The options of running pre built coils (2) or using the included rba setup is pretty sweet.

Hi Welcome I also have the subox mini, the tank is a marvel of a tank and the coils are very ez to change and are low priced and come in different ohm for different styles of puffing....I will bet You will love it,and feel better not putting all the tar and gunk in Your body while saving money...At 8 bucks a pack,You could buy one,use it for ten days throw it away, buy a new one and You will STILL be saving money!....PS..I quit, overnight, after 30+ years,110 days ago started at 1.8 down to .5 nic...

I personally think something like the Kanger Evod starter kit is the best place to start.

Yes the sub box mini kit is state of the art bjt its not practicle unless you know vaping will work for you or not.

Yes..$50 for a tank and device..but consider another 20 for 2 or 3 batteries to keep him going all day..also consider another 15 for a charger..also consider 15 dollars a month for coils and hope all 5 you buy are even good..So its not a cheap way to find out.

With the evod kit you get everything you need except juice..coils are $5 dollars for a 5 pack...you dont need to buy a charger but a spare battery is recommended.

The evod kit is what got me off the cigs and despite my advancement into vaping if i lost everything but my evod kit i could still stay of the cigs easily.

What nicotine content you need is going to be a trial and error...finding a juice you like with said nicotine content is another adventure..In any case its not going to cost you near $100.00 to see if this works for you or not...If it does ,then move up to bigger and better things as most all do.

EDIT:
Here you go ..$23.00 plus shipping...pick your color and be done...come with 2 batteries and 2 tanks and 5 coils plus each tank has a coil in it already.. and 2 chargers...one for usb and one for wall outlets...i paid $54 dollars for this same kit almost 3yrs ago and it still works if that means anything...if you have an option get the kit with the 1.8 ohm coils i recommend it, or when you need more coils choose the 1.8 ohm....http://www.vapesupersaver.com/evod-starter-kit/

Need a decent juice to get you started?..here you go...you can choose nicotine level....i recommend starting at 18mg and working down...flavor percentage of at least 10 percent with the kanger evod tank..a 102ml bottle lasted me a full month with an evod tank and battery...the green apple is highly recommended. http://www.vistavapors.com/

I started vaping about 8 months ago.., with a pen-like battery (5 watt) and an Aspire BVD tank. I wound up getting an additional battery and tank. About 5 months later I needed to replace one of the batteries....then a month later the second battery.

I'm now using an iStick 30 watt by Eleaf (with my same tank... that I'm now thinking I may upgrade). The Eleaf works well for me....came with battery and charger for about $35.00. It holds a charge all day and allows me to up the wattage when I want a little more.

Wish I would have started with the iStick.

I agree with Mike. ..the juice flavor and nic level is really a trial by error. I started with 18 nic but that was too high for me. Dropped to a 12 after the first week....and down to an 8 after a month. My only real suggestion on juice is to get small amounts until you find a good nic level. Also....know that most stores will let you sampke flavors to find one you like....but the testers usually have zero nic...so the flavor might change slightly depending on your nic level.

Hope that helped.

Wow thank you guys for all the help! So much information.! there is a smoke shop near me that sells flavors from 0-18mg of nicotine, and they're only about 6 dollars a bottle, so i'll start there. I like the idea of the kanger evod, seeing as its much cheaper, plus it will allow me to see if vaping is really for me without having to spend 100 dollars to find out. Anybody recommend a good starting nicotine level? my friend had 22mg in his and it was pretty harsh on my lungs, so I was thinking somewhere around 12-16, would that be close to a regular cigarette?

Welcome to the quitters club!! My husband and I just quit 4 weeks and a day ago. We went to the local vape shop in our town. That way , we could talk to someone who knew a ton more than us and try different set ups and juices. We both went with the Kbox MIni. We paid more than if bought online, but felt like it was worth it. We paid $250 for both set ups and a juice. I just buillt my first coil today (finally!) and we are going to research making our own juice to keep costs even lower. I cheated 3 times smoking regular cigarettes - haven't in 3 weeks. He hasn't cheated once. Bet of luck!! This forum is absolutely wonderful and everyone I've encountered has been amazing.

The Evod setup is great for a beginner thats how i got started and it got me off 5 packs a day
you might try 12mg or less in juice to start 3 packs a week is not very much
i started at 24mg and was smoking 5 packs a day
I would say between 6mg and 12 would be a good start that way you can go up or down for the satisfaction

I'm glad I never got to that point.. That's a lot of cigarettes, glad to hear you're off them! I try really hard to limit myself to around 8-10 smokes a day. But sometimes I give in and just chain smoke a pack, but never more than that. I think I'll try 6mg, and at 6$ a bottle if it's not enough it's not like I spent a lot on the juice
