Posted by John Cleese:

A poem to enrich your afternoon...

I have a pet possum
He's totally awesome...
I've also got cats
Who just lie there on mats
Doing fuck all.
They don't come if I call
But my possum will blossom
and soon learn to boss 'em
About and around
Or else I shall toss 'em
On to the live rail at the Sloane Square
Underground

The Chiton makes its own teeth and it does so from magnetite, which is one of the hardest substances known to man. It's also an extraordinarily eye-catching creature.

These Honduran White Bats make a sort of tent in a Heliconia tree leaf. They're also tiny and the biggest of them are only 1.5 inches long.

This is kind of gross - the hairy frog can break its bones and then force them through their toes to form claws.

Don't mess with the mantis shrimp. They swing their arms out at roughly 80 kilometers an hour. That's about the same speed as a .22 cartridge leaves a gun.

These pink dolphins are, in fact, Amazon River Dolphins. They are only pink when they mature. The babies are gray. They also dislike captivity and refuse to be trained.

The Yoda Bat, or more properly The Nendo-Tube Nosed Fruit Bat, is only found in Papua New Guinea.

These slightly strange looking turtles use their necks and nostrils to their advantage. They enable them to snorkel without floating on top of the water.

This little fellow can be found around the shores of the 10,000 islands of Indonesia. The world's largest archipelago. His color scheme is striking and unexplained by science.

The Caedicia is a form of grasshopper. This one lives in the Pacific Highlands in the Muller Range of mountains.

The Salp is a "planktonic tunicate" and it lives on nothing but carbon dioxide which it extracts from the water it swims through. It's also completely transparent as you can see here.

The Grimpoteuthis gets its nickname thanks to the two fins on the side of its body. They look like the ears of Disney's most famous elephant, Dumbo.
