Weird issue with Wotofo elevate

I really like this RTA, haven't had an issue except when there's too much cotton but I've got it perfected now, or thought I did. Just recently it's giving me an issue, I'll try to explain.
.49ohms multi-strand clapton. This is being built on my Aegis. No issue's with this wire thus far. The wire glows perfect and just a little light scrape like normal to get the coil even. Without the topcap and glass on, it fires normally. I'll fire it 10x and no issue at all, UNTIL I put the glass and topcap on, it then reads .10 ohms and crackles and taste burnt. Using around 20w and have tried went above and below that amount with the same issue.

My guess is it's possibly shorting out? Wouldn't the Aegis say "short circuit" or something? I've re-built the coil 3x now with the same result and at a loss. Hoping someone can shed a little light or has been through this?

You only use 2 of the 4 screws that come installed, should I remove the screws from the posts not being used? Maybe that can cause an issue... probably not.

Chances are your coils are a little far out or too high and the Clapton wrap is JUST BARELY touching the chimney slightly. This happened to me several times with multiple RTAs as I always tried to fill as much of the chimney up with coils as I could. Just adjust them a little bit and you'll probably be fine.

I put the coil with the top just peaking above the side.. I also want very little cotton passing under the threads.
Also, I use a 3 or 3.51mm ID coil

I use the tool provided to cut the leads and haven't run into this yet. My deck looks just like the pic above that firebird posted. 3mm ID but it must be touching the chimney/topcap. I'll try again and report back tomorrow, using my mech for right now but this elevate RTA has been my main vape.

Okay I used a 2.5mm ID and only 4 or 5 wraps instead of 6. That did the trick but it's spitting a little hot oil in my mouth when pulling. I noticed it doing that for the last week and it wasn't doing that earlier.

I'll do some searching about the hot oil spitting out but let me know what you guys think.

To rectify the spitting either make sure the wick is tight in the coil or try spacing your coil.
