What causes poor squonk quality form a bottle?

I am using a regular Reo-style bottle on a mod, and I find that it drain really quick back into itself after a squonk, sometimes not allowing the cotton to absorb the juice. When the bottle is full as all hell, it will work just fine, but once it gets down to 50% full, the trouble starts.

It is almost like there is negative pressure in the bottle that wants to keep the juice instead of letting it flow up and stay. This is my first time using a bottle like this, and sadly, I have no extra silicone hose to try other bottles from other mods.

it is getting a little tiresome not knowing if I have a primed wick or not.

Do you have a v-cut in the bottom of your tubing? That really helps cut down on the situation you are describing -

Additionally, it's been my experience that squonking when toward the bottom half of the bottle requires a little bit longer squeeze.
Same principle applies to a water bottle;
Fill it all the way with the cap off and you can squeeze the water out easily, but empty out half and then try, there's just more space and less liquid.

Hey bro, I've also had that problem with super drainy atties as well, like the nuppin for example... anyway you can raise your pin a little? That would create a slight well, atties like the narda, odis and hadaly have the pin up on a slightly raised (about 0.1mm) platform to leave behind a tiny bit of juice for the wicks to sop up slowly, while still draining back 90% of the juice you squank... ofc. if theres already juice it'll all go back down.

Anyways I think those types of atties are better for my style of squanking & since I started using them I haven't had that problem, but if you still want to use a really drainy one or have a reason for having it, like leaving it on its side in a car seat etc. which I understand, you can just change your style of squanking to hold the bottle a couple of seconds before you release, or else do a really slow squank instead.

This problem is really bad. I mean I can squeeze and hold for 9 seconds and barely get a full atty. No sign of air leakage at either seal. I have the Italian diaphragm sealed bottles coming, but it is a ways away in postage. Maybe a new hose?

Right, the V cut is a must for any squonk tube.

Tubing bottoming out in the bottle. Do the v-cut as JuicyLucy suggested.

Overtightening the bottle to fix the problem - only making things worse in the process. Check that the o-ring isn't mashed way up into the cap and out of place.

Or the opposite problem - bottle not tight enough, allowing air to enter the system through a loose cap.

Wick material covering the squonk hole in the atty, blocking it's ability to feed & drain.

Tube is cut, checked the seal on bottle and it seems perfect. No wicking material blocking the center pin. I am not able to raise it above the deck (o16). It is only this particular bottle, sadly I am short bottles and tubes and each one is cut for each mod and no 2 are alike.

Is the tubing maybe pinched where it enters the cap? Try repositioning the tubing a tiny bit.

Ok so I disassembled the entire bottle into every separate individual piece. Cleaned and dried and so far so good. Maybe I let juice leak then build up on the threads. Ah well, if anything my stupid posts will keep you guys busy.

I mix at 60/40 for most of my juices...it seemed to be a sealing problem somewhere in the line. I've got 7 new bottles coming so will have spares when this kinda stuff happens.

A "full atty" or did you mean "a wet wick"? Just checking...

Granted - a 1/2 empty bottle DOES require a longer squonk - but a few seconds should do it. And if I look down into my 0-16, I stop squonking as soon as I see liquid rising AT ALL - because that means there's enough to wet the wick.
It's a tiny atty - not a lot of wicking in there - and you WILL have to squonk every couple vapes.

Just checking that the issue isn't either
a) Over-wicked. 0-16, I think, works best with wick that JUST provides friction through the coil (not stuffed) and just enough to lie on the deck and pick up juice. More wick, and you can choke the coil, or impact the atty's airflow...
b) Expectations of a long vape time from each squonk... My experience with Reo/O-16 is FREQUENT small squonks work best.

Oh I know all about the o16. This was something else. Pretty sure there was a broken seal a long the line I couldn't find allowing air to escape and juice to not travel.

If that happens again, FDV sells different size squonk pins that you can grind down yourself, might be able to get one of those to fit so you can have a slightly protruding pin.

For me, when the bottle is 1/2 full or less, I use a double squeeze on the bottle. Squeeze the bottle, let go and quickly squeeze again. The first squeeze lets the air out of the bottle, the second squeeze will saturate the wick.

I do this too, extra drainy atties are great for taking around with you all day but you have to squonk differently with then.

"The bottle mod" predated fancy bottles. It involves replacing reo bottle cap, which is prone to dud seal, with the nipple that comes with the bottles... The little dripper nipple... You drill it out just narrower than the tube and use that as the cap. They press fit in, not screw on.

"The bottle mod" predated fancy bottles. It involves replacing reo bottle cap, which is prone to dud seal, with the nipple that comes with the bottles... The little dripper nipple... You drill it out just narrower than the tube and use that as the cap. They press fit in, not screw on.

I ran all my REO style bottles that way until I switched to the fancy Italian "super soft" bottles in the fall of 2015.

I dunno. I have just never had big issues with the stock Reo caps/bottles so I haven't fiddled. (But I do like the look of those Italian bottles.)

Well, the bottle is back to its old ways again, swapped it for another reo bottle and all is well. There must be a leak somewhere so small I'm missing it. And those damn SSIBs keep leaking on me.

Not sure. I'm at work right now so no access to it for another few hours. It is the bottle from Mokoo that looks identical to the reo bottle.
