What is this horrible smell?

Okay, I have been vaping for about three years, My current setup is a Hexohm V2 primarily a Kennedy Competition RDA that I switch out with a Tugboat v2 and Haze. So last week I decided to order some TFA flavors to make my own juice with my friend that works at a local vape shop of mine. So far any receipe that we have followed or any mixture we have played with, if we use the French vanilla delux/vanilla custard/cheesecake with grahm. The juice smells amazing, but the second we vape it, the rda smells like burt chemical death. My only guess right now is the whole butyric acid/acetoin/etc....Am I right? are we doing somthing wrong? We mixed honeydew (CAP) and whipcream (TFA) and it is awesome.

Thanks in advance.

What are the percentages of each of the flavorings that your using and what taste are you trying to go for ?

EDIT: Just a few drops or a couple of percent too much of a certain flavoring can kill a juice. Sometimes there is a very fine line between a good juice and one that tastes pefumey or chemically.

Maximum total flavor we have done in a bottle is 20% but generally 10-15%,one example is strawberry cheesecake, strawberry (ripe) is generally at 10% with cheese cake at 5% and 2% french vanilla, horrible smell.

Try a lighter touch with the strawberry ripe, in my experience it was decently strong. Everyone's taste buds are different but too much of one flavor it can get really chemically tasting fast. Hope this helps bud!

If your wanting a custard type vape, Id go with the Caps. I use that Cheescake with Graham as well, but at small percentages. It can taste pretty raunchy mixed strong. I use it for the graham taste anywhere from .5 to 2% according to how strong Im looking for. Opinions and all. Good luck.

I'm guessing plain Cheesecake flavoring is the culprit. But if you try taking the flavor percentages down by half (Strawberry and Cheesecake) and still have that issue, it's probably coming from your gear--too much heat, machine oil, new silica?

Thank you for everyone that has replied trying to help.

But to help explain better.
If we fire it, take the cotton out and smell the cotton, thats where the burnt chemical smell emits from.
tried on my three RDA's and one of his, all had the same smell, My three builds use organic cotton (bacon cotton) with either anarchist 24ga, 22ga Kanthal or 20ga anarchist, his build is 20ga kanthal with rayon. I will try another mix with a lower % later this week when I can stomach the thought of that smell again lol. the juice we made with honey dew and whipped cream has no awful smell, and no premium juice that we currently have has the smell.

I usually find less is more. I have a recipe with 8 flavors and only 8percent flavoring

you might be playing with percentages done too high, dunno.. dont see what you are working with (recipe)
and possible.. I know tfa says on their site if it has any bad chemicals in the flavors.. might want to check there too..

cap.. not sure, but they are reformatting some of theirs too..

@Brandon Heunemann I'm thinking it's the Cheesecake too, BTW what brand?

I prefer CAP NY Cheesecake and TFA Cheesecake Graham Crust but usually only at 1-3%.

I'm new to DIY too.

So far, the best thing I have found when trying to make a juice for the first time is to go slowly.
1. Add 0.5%, shake really well, test it in an RDA.
2a. If flavor is too weak, repeat step 1
2b. If flavor is good, write down the % of flavor used so you can quickly make it in the future.
3. Add nic and enjoy

Special note about Step #3. It may dilute the flavoring, but it depends on the concentration of nic your using. I use a 100mg/ml and dilute to 2 or 3mg/ml so adding 1 or 2ml to a 100ml bottle of juice doesn't dilute the flavor enough to be noticeable. If your using a weaker concentration of nic, you may have to add it before adding flavors to prevent noticeable dilution.
