Went to my local casino today. It's an Indian casino(or should I say native?) so smoking is allowed. There's a big non-smoking section but I tend to hang out in the smoking section. People look at you funny when you vape in the non-smoking section and I'm not looking for any attention. I like to think I'm a polite vaper, I don't chuck huge clouds and I don't blow in anyone's face. I find that a lot,,, well some anyway,,, of the smokers are far more impolite than I am. But hey,, I'm in the smoking section so I have nothing to complain about.

Today a woman sat beside me. In the smoking section. I took a vape, blew it in the other direction but a little of it floated toward her. She started waving her hand in front of her face. Seriously??? Now, thus has happened before. Several times in fact. I've never said anything to these idiots but today I just couldn't take it. I don't know, maybe I'm just tired with the holidays and all but idiots really pissed me off today.

I leaned over, looked her in the eyeball and said,,,"you DO realize that you're in the SMOKING section, don't you?" She just looked at me. Then I told her,,,"and this is NOT smoke." She says I know, but I have asthma. OMG, you're a bigger idiot than I thought! Get out! Get out of the smoking section, you MORON!

I'm a former smoker. I would NEVER give someone a hard time for smoking,,, in the SMOKING SECTION. If I didn't want to be around it I guess I'd go hang out in the NON-smoking section. GAWD stupid people irritate me

It's because of idiots like that it's now illegal to vape in Golden Gate Park.
Not to mention Bus Stops too oh and Vape Shops as well.

I was sitting outside at lunch one day, smoking a cigarette, minding my own business. Some lady came out and sat down next to me and said, "You know you're supposed to be on the sidewalk right?" I explained this is where I always sat, had always sat for 5 years, and never had an issue. She mentioned the police (the central district precinct is in my building), and I said, "well, that's funny because I frequently talk to uniformed officers and detectives alike, and not one of them has said a word. Matter of fact, some of them even join me." Then I asked her if she wanted me to move - she didn't, because I wasn't bothering her at the time. I wasn't trying to be confrontational, I honestly didn't understand *why* she would see me light a cigarette and take a couple drags, then come sit next to me and try to start shit over it. Some people just like drama and like to start problems where none exist. That's really all I can come up with.

Or maybe she thought you didn't know it was actually illegal to smoke there.
It doesn't matter if the police let you get away with it.It's still the law. There are plenty of people who would have demanded rightfully that you either put it out or leave.

I try to be considerate to others, and I certainly would have moved had she asked me to do so. Still don't get why anyone would bring up something as a problem then be like, "oh, no, it's all good" Seems pointless is all, and I tend to not understand "pointless" actions- like talking just to fill silence, complaining without proposing solutions, etc. personality quirk I suppose

Smoking or vaping, if I'm outside and by myself and someone came over to say anything, I just laugh. They can leave or not. Get mad or not. It must suck to be them and that petty.

I'd actually consider it quite hilarious if anyone actually dialed 911 to report me vaping. Or smoking. About as hilarious as an ex smoker chiding a smoker.
Get over yourself. If you think your holier than thou because you switched to vaping, your not.

Not trying to take a high and mighty stance I have seen people arrested here in San Francisco for smoking or vaping in places where they shouldn't.

If I won the lottery I'm afraid what I would do....which would be isolate myself from people.

I hate them so much lately it takes everything I have to stomach going anywhere.

I have always been pretty social but lately people seem to be getting really fucking weird and make me not want to talk to anyone. Christmas shopping keeps getting worse by the year, people are on edge and crusty as fuck.

Driving is getting worse, assholes everywhere really it's a hateful weird world we live in anymore and it's gonna get worse...yay.

And yet, there are people in the ally shooting tar in their veins there in San Fran. Like I said, it must suck for people to be so petty. Maybe the cops could answer rape and robbery calls rather than handing out tickets for offensive smells for uptight people.

AGAIN... it's not the cops decision.
It's the people's decision who elected the lawmakers. They need to be controlled by someone. That is their right.

That's true.

But at the same time, most cities/counties/states have lots of unenforced laws on the books. Like no butt sex. Things like that. Cops don't have to go around giving out stupid tickets.

I bet there are people doing the same thing where you live.
Yes it sucks that people are that petty,it doesn't mean that it is any less illegal.
I'd love the police to do the jobs they were actually hired for but in this city more than three-quarters of cases are dropped before going to court.

Most of those old blue laws have either been repealed or removed.
There's still a few silly laws around though. (Animals are banned from mating publicly within 1,500 feet of a tavern, school, or place of worship.)

You are not permitted to wear cowboy boots unless you already own at least two cows.

Personally my favorite dumb law hails from Alabama.

It is illegal to sell peanuts in Lee County after sundown on Wednesday.

Not so much. The drugs are here but very much hidden. And unless it's crowded, I vape(used to smoke) anywhere outside no matter if it's a no zone or not. If there are allot of people around, I go were they ain't.

I'm hoping you meant "cited" in place of "arrested".

It should be just a Muni code violation, not an arrestable criminal action... unless one side or the other decided to get utterly stupid during the encounter.

Not like that's uncommon, of course. :p
In 1 case it was the owner of a vape shop protesting the new anti-vaping law that prohibits vaping in Vape Shops.
He refused to put up signs and refused to ask employee/customers to not vape in his store.

You got to be kidding me...I remember standing on a street corner in SF years ago smoking the unmentionable vegitation and a cop was standing next to me...all he said was....can you put it out....That was when SF was still a city and not a leftest insane assylum.

I think you'll find that there are thousands of unenforced laws. Even at the federal level, no person alive knows them all. There is no telling how many an area like San Fran has. ;)

I think it's a sign of the times...I think collectivist thought has become politically trendy again like was in the 1930s, and the sort of childish dreams of utopia, lurid end of the world senarios, and engineered society is being shoved down people's throats...we have turned away from individualisim and freedom...toward the borg. People are acting like little apperetchicks....

No I'm not kidding it's bad here for both smokers and vapers. When the city passed the anti-smoking law here it was a very common site to see police cars outside bars.

damn SF has changed I remember being accosted by dealers about a dozen times a day when I lived in SF.
I've lived here for 15+ years and in that time I've only seen 1 drug deal. The funny thing is where I saw it take place.Right outside a police station...Not kidding.

fantastic Kate Stienle gets gunned down in the streets of SF and dies in her father arms by an illegal alien...a father and his two sons get massacered by an illgeal alien over a traffic incedent....but by God we have to shake down the citizens and sick the cops on them for refusing to smoke.....your tax dollars at work,

I think you might need some situational awareness training.

http://www.sfweekly.com/sanfrancisc...ng-open-air-drug-business/Content?oid=2186799

There is nothing like that going on here. Hidden means drug deals are done in residents not on the street.

If the cops here start wasting their time handing out smoking and vaping tickets, I'll let you know. And then you can bash them. With my blessing. Hell, I'll help ya bash them. No need to be sensitive about it.

I think we've all overlooked the most egregious problems with both people and San Francisco.

People are people. We all suck.

People in San Francisco wrap their burritos in tin foil. That really sucks.

In Maryland adultery is punishable by law
The punishment ---> A $10 fine (the law is still on the books from the 1800's)

Wax paper - tin foil makes the tortilla all soggy and gross. But I hear burritos de California are finally working their way north after about 20 years, so there's hope yet for people that call taco shops taquerias... :)

Only cheap burrito places wrap the burrito's here in SF.
I normally get mine at either http://www.thelittlechihuahua.com/menu or from http://nopalitosf.com/
The best BBQ in town is still http://www.memphisminnies.com/ which is happily located across the street from http://www.toronado.com/

Okay, you drink at the original Toronado - your sins are forgiven. Their spot down here isn't the top beer bar in town, but it's well into the respectable realm. But tin foil or no, burritos assembled on a Subway sandwich line and that involve beans and/or rice that aren't bean, rice & cheese are still a problem...

screw you...I lived there for over 12 years. I'll bash the fuck out of it if I want to.I paid my dues to that shithole..I live in Oakland feel free to bash the shit out of it all you want. Besides how is pointing out the glaring lie that the political class that run S.F. is in anyway concerned with the public saftey of it's citizens how is it considered bashing....
Maybe you should just go to your "safe zones"

You'd thin that she'd be able to take it. Vape is far less volatile than smoke, but can't stand the smoke/vape, get out of the smoking section!

People will always find something to complain about, some more than others.

Yeah, you're right about that. I wonder if there is any remedy.

Fault finders are a dime a dozen, and it takes a good person to see the good in others, as nobody is perfect...I was raised if I couldn't say anything good or positive not to say anything at all, but sometimes that is hard to do with rude people blowing cigarette smoke in my face..(casino smoking section) lol

Years ago, before my state banned smoking in bars, restaurants and the like, my wife and I were out for dinner at a local high-end-ish place that had terrace seating overlooking the lake. It was just warm enough to be pleasant. There was a mild offshore breeze. Another couple was seated upwind of us, about twenty feet away. Our drinks were delivered and I lit a cigarette. The woman at the other table, again: twenty feet away and upwind, started giving us looks of distaste, called a waiter over and, I would imagine, complained.

I wish I could say I'm making this up.

When Wisconsin was on the verge of going smoke free one of my coworkers was beside herself with joy. She doesn't drink and doesn't hang out in bars, and had no intention of hanging out in bars, but she was thrilled that no one could smoke in the establishments she didn' t frequent anyway.

I never understood why the powers that be didn't consider the possible economic benefits of allowing business owners to buy a license to allow smoking in their own business. Or why people have to go to places that allow things they don't like then complain. Vegetarians at a steakhouse come to mind.*

* not something I've seen, just an example of the ridiculousness.

becuase we are living in a new dawn, in a new age, for a new humanity, were the enlightned and aultarisitc, are going to end all the problems of mankind we are finally going to end all human suffering like War, and Poverty, and famine, and disease, and humanity will live in peace and brotherhood, and all we need to do it is....total subjegation of the entire human race......sound familiar, every tinhorn totalitarian lunatic preached it....and their mindless followers.....People have been so twisted by the dominant political memes they view your freedom as a threat to their continued existence....what you put in your body, what you don't. what car you drive, your barbeque, your diet, what stores you shop at,your fireplace, the books you read, the books you don't read, what websites you visit,...and the thoughts you have....all are a threat to the new Utopia.....
And that why you see, that while 12 year old yahzidi girls are put on slave blocks in Iraq, to be sold to be sexually totrtured for the rest of their lives, well heeled and privledged self described Socail Justice Warriors in the US and Europe have hysterical fits over...gender specific pronouns and see imagined micro aggressions in other people breathing too loud.and real human suffering is suppresed by the media and facebook and google to protect the endgame of the elite.
