What's Happening To VU?

I just happened to glance at the hashtag stats on the sidebar, and 9/10 of the "Latest hash tags" and "Trending hash tags" have absolutely NOTHING to do with vaping. And even the remaining 1/10 (#blackfriday) isn't completely about vaping. I haven't looked at any of the posts containing these hashtags, but I can pretty much bet the farm that there's a lot more political arguments going on in them than there is vaping discussion.

A lot appear to be being started and closed out for further reply by @VUBot and they seem to direct traffic to BizToc, a seeming business news site. It also seems to bear a slant from Mark Cuban according to its about page.

Why? Your guess as good as mine. Not going to guess. Barely notice the hashtags myself. That kind of stuff never really bothered or interested me. It's all marketing, flash in the pan, SEO useless crap to me.

Another line of questioning, curiosity might wonder, ... Why are you drawing attention to it? I'm just a site visitor here. Do contribute some content at times obviously but I'm not really too involved beyond that. Is curious seeing others draw attention to something. And it's just simple curiosity. You really don't need respond.

I see you do web mastery & can figure that might be some of your motive. You guys always seem invested in perception, marketing and such. Which, okay I get sales and such. Not knocking, just saying it's not really germane to me. But then, I'm a custodian. What would I know?

Hm, well I know web sites still rely on HTML a fair bit. Oddly would have thought SGML would have been the choice but a subset can work. Know about LAMP servers, javascript, java, cgi, perl, python. But I don't really use it for much. Rather be a simple man.

Those hashtags have been over there since the new zenforo. Vu bot does them. He is the reason we don't have to have a collection every month for server money like some other forums.

Well that's all fine and dandy - gotta pay for the forum. But why show it in a sidebar? This particular style of sidebar has zero effect on SEO, and obviously nothing to do with vaping.

I think Joe was kind of hoping that the members would use [HASH=85544]#Hashtags[/HASH] too.
If [HASH=85545]#Members[/HASH] [HASH=85546]#Used[/HASH] [HASH=85544]#Hashtags[/HASH] it would drown out [HASH=85547]#VU[/HASH] Bot [HASH=85544]#Hashtags[/HASH] lol

I sure as hell will not question anybody's motives who decries the creeping in of politics to the LAST place I have to go where I am not in "culture war" mode. Lord knows it consumes an unhealthy amount of my thinking and time as it is... I also know I am guilty of letting it spew out in here once or twice, but I certainly try not to.
