What's the deal with 0.1w steps?

My last regulated device was a provari v1, yeah, been out of regulated devices that long lol.
Yes, 0.1 steps for voltage makes sense.

But who can really tell the difference between 31.2w and 31.3w? Maybe 0.5w steps but even then there is a small change when moving up or down 1w so I don't get the need to have such fine resolution.

Just picked up a smok m50 and playing with the watt adjustment I was just thinking... what the hell do we need tenths of a watt adjustment for?

I guess it's the same reason people go rock climbing, because they can.

I look at it like this...

The average person can hear from 20hz up to 20khz... not everyone is average. I know when I was running sound for bands years ago, I could hear and detect minor changes in a sound delay that was/is much above average.

So just because you may not be able to notice a difference... or even the average person... doesn't mean that there isn't someone that can.

True, maybe I'm just so used to receiving whatever the battery has to give in a mech mod.
Maybe 0.5, I can see that, I do pick up the slightest change once I have moved 1/2 watt but there is not really any meaningful change till I get at least 1 watt movement... to me at least.

Do you pick up any difference moving up or down 0.1 watt? Or what value does it have to change for you to sense a change? Just curious.

I don't think about it actually... I just move it up/down as I see fit...

The people to ask this of though... would be those that taste stuff as part of their job... and probably never smoked tobacco as well. They will have the most sensitive palettes.

True.
Every manufacturer lists it as part of the features... adjustable in 0.1w increments. Maybe at one point one of them moved from 1w to 0.1w increments and the rest followed?

That was not on my shopping list but I guess it doesn't matter because every vw has it.

I am seeing that the mod being able to reduce voltage below 3.6v or whatever some of these set the floor at would be nice. I've had to change my builds to a thinner wire to get more resistance to where watt adjustment does anything.

I'd trade my 0.1w adjustment for the ability to get to a lower voltage output :D
Next vw will have that on the must have list.

It bugged me for a while the swift march to 82.3W holding the + to long.when I wanted from 21 to 27 You learn there is a slower mode ( a Sig100 ) it does go slower for a second or so. Now I don't mind 20 ish 40 ish 60 ish 80 ish But i really prefer 31.2 ( kidding). I have figured it out a bit. But really the .1 watt is a bit absurd.

Ha ha! Good stuff :)
The smok's ramp up isn't that hyper. It does go faster after holding, but still takes a half second to move 1ohm so it won't get all crazy on the cheese whiz :D

Now after running this thing for about a week I can see wanting to get more granular than 1 ohm steps, there is a difference (slight but there) in 0.5 ohm steps but there is no difference (to me at least) going from 29.0 - 29.3 ohms and 29.0 - 29.5.

Meh, just a niggle that I will get used to I guess. That bugs me more than the half second lag to fire after button press lol.
