What's the secret to larger coils

I got a coil kit to do coils larger than 3 mm. I built a dual coil 3.5 mm 24 316l. It was 0.2 ohms.

It just didn't seem to have the flavor smaller id coils. Maybe not enough cotton?

I did another 3.5 using 24/34k Clapton wire. It was a 5 wrap spaced for tc. It seems the way.

Do I need more wraps more cotton? Maybe just let it burn in some?

I found ramping up the pre-heat brought out better flavour. I also taper power down after a few secs. Wish these 4mm kanthal/SS claptons I bought had a bit higher TCR so I could let TC do it for me. Getting them to temp quickly unmuted them.

Imo it's too much juice...... or too much dispersing of the heat. I don't know why.. but for me bigger ID coils require more watts than equivalent smaller ID coil. I'm assuming same ohm and wire. Just different ID and resulting wrap count difference..

I think of it like a swimming pool. .. both are 10000 gallon but one is eight feet deep the other 4feet.... the sun may heat the 4 foot deep pool alone... the deeper pool will need mechanical assistance or a heater to maintain same water temps.

I may just go back to 2.5 and 3.0.
I find the smaller the ID and the more wraps you have the better the flavor.... the problem is when you build too small or too big. Too small leads too burnt wicks too big too much liquid cooling of the coil.

The secret us there is no secret or right ID.... there is only what we individually prefer.

I am not enjoying this. Another rebuild today. The joy of vaping. Should have stayed with what worked.

Your analogy makes since.

Are you using a ss core with kanthal wraps because if you are your tcr probably isn't correct because of the kanthal

Kanthal only and fsk in xxx mode. No issues with that.

And your wicking should be snug not to tight but not loose just little resistance when pulling though and keep your ends loose and fluffy will promote better saturation of cotton to coil

Wicking may be off. I will try that first since that's the easiest. May be to much.

Don't worry the daily rebuild thing goes away... once you figure out what you like. And how to make it. Unless of course you get obsessed or let it become a hobby. I don't remember what you are working with.. but I'm sure it's easier to build than the protank heads and cartos I learned on. Who would a thought sub ohm and cotton cures burnt hits and leaky atomizers.

I decided to try something new since I see all these 4mm and larger coils. Not my style I think.

Fixed my other tank with the 3.5 mm coil. It was a wicking issue. Blasted wick.

Vapes great now. I still think 3.0 is better for this tank.
