LW & Liz Wishes for a Merry Christmas and Happy New year, and first and foremost world peaceMerry Christmas to everyone in this thread. May our Christmas desire - most of all - be World Peace, and good will toward all creatures on this planet... in answer to your earlier post, @Saddletramp1200 - yes, I've been up in many helos. I'm also a student pilot. I finished flight school in 1999, and have made it be able to fly solo (albeit, near the Class D airport I've taken off out of LoL).
I'm officially 19.2 hours away (according to my flight log; hell, I thought it was more than that...!) from getting my private helicopter license; but, my spinal problems have put a hold on that dream, and I was already flying solo - I'm qualified on Schweizer airframes 300CB, 300C, and 300T. The 300T is a dream - turbine (jet) power. No carbs to worry about icing up on descent, and no lack of power - like the fuel-injected 300C. The turbine engine and cyclic provides automatic power adjustment to maintain the rotor speed you wish to keep - with the fully-articulated rotors, it can fly damned near upside-down. Schweizer (formerly Hughes Aircraft; at least, for this helo class) makes the safest airframe in its class - look up Robinson helos - in the NTSB listings, they lead the list in crashes, and fatalities... .
My Christmas Wishes: sitting next to Liz, and planting a big kiss right on her mouth; being able to play my axes (musical instruments, and sing) standing up; getting tower flight clearance, cycling the rotors up; getting 'light skids', and doing an air taxi across the back end of the airport, nose down, so you can see the grass passing by - as you speed up for ascent; and, having the ability to discern from my happy Christmas memories, and the bad ones - as both can make me cry like a baby.
I can't listen to Christmas carols - I'd end up taking too much Clonazepam, and falling asleep... they hit my heart right where I live, because it triggers the memories, then - look out for the guy with the shaven head, and the swollen eyes.
All right, all right - don't let me bring the mood of the thread down... may today bring everyone wonderment; love; wonderful gifts; happy, grateful children; and, a great Christmas dinner (I'm working on mine). May we also remember that even though baby Jesus wasn't really born on this day, we are celebrating the birth of the most wonderful Being in the Universe. God, Incarnate upon our planet for the first thirty-three years, anno domini...
Merry Christmas.
