Supporting a family of 5 on $15hr with rent, lights, car payment and one still in diapers. You just do what you have to to take care of you and yours.
You're truly an honorable man, J5. Don't ever let anyone tell you less than that.

Last one to tell me different had a hard time talking past the fat lip I gave him. But I love my brother so I forgave him.

I can't threaten to walk. I'd be fucked if I did. I need to play other cards in my deck. Work on my past experiances and how valuable I'd be in a manager role. Specially a commercial manager. I'm shooting for commercial manager, will settle for what's called commercial specialist. It's basically a baby com manager, but still a management position.

I feel your pain boat, thankfully I kicked ass and got a head chef position at my work within a year. Between my wife and I we make a decent wage, enough to enjoy the things we do. But like iSubOhm said its all on how you work, my wife went into work the day she went into labor and until then worked 60-70hrs a week.

I look at her parents for inspiration, started dirt power in a 700sqft house and redid it while trying to start their cleaning and flooring business. Now they have a 5500sqft house and gross over 3mil a year. Both of them still work and make sure their employees have a check every week.

It's pretty cool, he owns the largest hardwood installer in Vt. Does all the gym floors at all the schools(including local colleges). While she runs a commercial cleaning business that gets new accounts almost weekly.

Neither have a college degree, just busted ass everyday to make a life for themselves and their family.

I'd work as many hours as I could get. Over times just not allowed right now :( still beats getting dicked around by fucking Wal-Mart tho. I'd love to burn that place to the ground.

Ooooooooo a lighter and some gasoline! And there just lieing around. Oh no the gas is leaking onto walmart! Oh noes! Oops.

I had some college; but, high school diploma- then got a PI lic. Was a PI by day and a chef by night for over 20 years- then the economy tanked. So, i quit the pi gig; and, was a truck driver by day and chef by night.
When I could no longer physically do either, that's when I went and got a college degree.
-necessity.

I've thought of going to night school, the chef life is rough. Plus with my wife being one also I'd like to get something going so she could cut back the hours and spend more time with the boy.

Not a threat to walk.. I wouldn't ever advise that. Didn't mean for that to sound like that Just prove to them that you'd be the perfect option for the position.

I feel ya dude. It's definitely more of a lifestyle choice; than, a career. I tried online classes a few times and that was working quite well. I don't have offspring though.

It is, it's basically all I know and I love it. Not to brag but I'm a pretty bad ass chef too, just a rough life and not much money to be had in it.

We've thought about opening our own place but it's a hard business to get something going in. 90% of restaurant fail within the first year, the remaining 10% spilt like 5%fail within 3yrs and the other 5% stay open.

I wasn't half bad myself. in fact I was damnned good. wrote a cookbook, and I still do some catering. in fact when/if I'm ever able to my plan was aleays to open up a small 12 table high end fine dining "pub" on the coast.

90% do fail. and another 5% fail the next year. the key though is something that your area is missing, a new a concept to your target audience. you know what I mean, like we have the bbq shed here.
no one here loves bbq, unless its foot ball season, these kids started doing amazing ribs, and serving them out of their shed. now, people are driving 3 hours for a rack of bbq ribs.
c'mon dude, you know how uncomplicated that is. but they keyed into it and bam! totally awesome for them! and here I sit jealous. lmao

the other 5% stay open.

You could be of that 5% :) I think There's money to be in it if you're smart about it like Firebird said.

Some news from up your way, Whis. 17 miners trapped about 775ft down in a salt mine (elevator shaft) since 10:30pm last night, at the Cargill salt mine in Lansing NY. Hope they can get them all out SAFE!

Yes Break, watching it pour still here. San Diego took it hard, this in NY would be no problem , but in CA they freak out big time, power outages flooding mud slides with less than an inch of rain.
