Batman's sidekick Robin is dead by the time the DC Expanded Universe kicks off, but who killed him? It turns out there's more to the story than fans inferred from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

The death of Robin clearly left an impact on Batman. In Batman v Superman, viewers see that Bruce Wayne still displays Robin's superhero outfit in his batcave. On it are the spray painted words, "Hahaha joke's on you Batman." The implication is clear: the Joker, one of Batman's greatest archenemies, murdered his sidekick. As director Zack Snyder told IGN, he imagined Robin had died during a run-in with a "young Joker," and that set up a "fun backstory to play with." In Suicide Squad, we learn there's more to the story.
