Danny Boyle has been discussing his efforts to make a sequel to Trainspotting, explaining that following an aborted attempt 10 years ago, the time is now right to bring the cast and crew back together for more drug-fuelled fun.
“People’s relationship with it is very interesting. I can’t remember many other films where, when people come up to you, they talk about the character’s names. Not the actors who were playing them. They remember the actors who are playing them, but they don’t define it as ‘Oh, that part that Tom Cruise played.’ Or ‘Oh, that part that Leonardo DiCaprio played.’ They just remember the names. They talk to you as though they know these people. They talk about Begbie and Spud and… not just one name. They’re weird names as well, and not that easy to remember. So they have a personal relationship with it which is wonderful.
