True. So, if I bought a new car for say $10,000 and drove it, it's now worth $9,000. After using it for a year, it's now worth $8,100. But now I want to sell it. So I figure "maybe people don't know what they're doing when it comes to buying used cars". So I price it at $16,200. If anyone asks about the price, I can say I paid $20,000 for it a year ago. Initial depreciation is $2,000, with an additional depreciation of $1,800 after using it for a year, nets it to $16,200. Heck, they don't know what I really paid for it! At any rate, I think $16,200 is a fair price for a one year old $20,000 car. But, if I have to bargain with the buyer to get it sold, I will absolutely accept $13,000 for it - saving the buyer a whopping $3,200!!!Interesting fact
Depreciation Starts The Moment YouDrive Off The Lot. The minute a person drives a new car off the lot it loses approximately 10 percent of its value. By the end of the first year, that car willlose an additional 10 percent onaverage
