When I was growing up my apartment building had a designated fallout shelter in the basement, complete with ugly green barrels supposedly filled with biscuits to last 20 years (found a cool Geiger counter in one once). At that young tender age I was already smart enough to know I'd rather be dead than have to spend 6 months in that basement.

And I concur, I would far rather be at Ground Zero in the event of some cataclysm, than live to suffer the aftermath. Which is one reason I think very fondly of maybe SE Washington state; if that massive magma chamber under and all round Yellowstone decides to get frisky, SE WA would go pretty fast! Andria
