I generally peel one of the outer layers off. It's a different consistency, so it's easy to do. If I need a very tiny wick I peel them both off, but generally just peel one off. It's possible that the break-in period is due to the different absorbency rate of those outer layers.
Hmm. I just Always soak the wick really well before putting it all back together. I have not noticed a flavor change on new wicking. I also use the Japanese Cotton, but tuning of trying the rayon. Seems everyone talks highly of it. The Japanese Cotton is just so easy to wick.

I like Tanks. I have a Kayfun lite clone. This is what pulled me away from the kanger cartos. I ordered a orchid v4 a couple days ago off eBay for pretty cheap. I won't be home for another 10 days to try it though. Drippers don't really appeal to me. The hits are to big and the constant re-wetting doesn't fit in my work schedule.

I use either japanese cotton or rayon. To me they taste pretty much the same, and I agree the cotton is so easy to wick. I alternate, depending on what I'm doing (or what I'm trying to fix!).

lol mr bill. it just adds more airflow for lung hits, she has a drip tip also with a airflow controller. its really awesome for the price. looks a few bucks cheaper now. the juice well is huge and the posts are up high away from anything so its real easy to build on also.

The Project Sub-Ohm stuff looks really nice! Thinkin my next purchase is gonna be a Freakshow Mini.

After reading all this chat my Magma seems inadequate and I think I want a Venturi or a Mephisto, maybe. I want something that will be

1) good flavor
2) not too leaky
3) easy to use and
4) (ideally) more than 20 drops juice capacity

On the angelcigs site the Venturi is described as "kayfun styled". But it's an RDA not an RBA or RTA--or whatever you call the ones that are rebuildable tanks? Kayfuns seem so complicated, never having used one. Does the "kayfun styling" of the Venturi mean that it is more like a tank? Do you think if I can use the Magma will I be able to use this without much of a leap?

The Magma is a nice piece, I really like mine. Sure it'll leak if you turn it on it's side but most* any dripper will. The Mephisto is a cloud chasin beast, flavor is not bad but I wouldn't buy one for flavor chasing.

Most any tank RTA will be a little harder to build than your Magma. The deck will be a lot smaller, so everything has to fit in a tighter space without touching the chemny. It's really not hard, you can do it ;)

A Proposal:

Given:
VaporJoe owns this place rick, cot, and tree.
VarorJoe can do with his property as he pleases.
This labeling probably exists to drive up posts.
More posts probably drive up ad revenues.
More profits will help keep this place thriving.
A thriving website keeps users happy.
Happy users continue to post.

Therefore we can draw certain conclusions:
It is good to get more people posting.
Unhappy users do not post.
Unhappy users leave the site. Example: ECF.
It makes economic sense to have happy users.

The problem with the current scheme is that it polarizes the users.

Green label: he/she's a newby, ignore them.
Gold label: he/she's a god. worship them.

Mostly it polarizes the newer users as once you spend some time around here, your own knowledge increases and you don't need a label to know who's who.

Perhaps, I'm all wet and they have statistics that prove an incentive program as it is now really works. Fine, I'm not leaving over a silly label.

In Fact I propose:

1: Allow all users to change their labels once per month.
2: Allow all users to change both the background & color of their label.
3: Hold a monthly contest for the best label. Make different tiers and prizes for the contests, such as:

Tier 1 - 149 posts - A pack of Koga cotton.
Tier 150 - 499 posts - An unregulated mod.
Tier 500 - 1000 posts _ A Regulated mod.
Etc...

This can be set up any way you wish, but I think it should have a bit of randomness in it.

It seems to me that a proposal such as this would both drive up posts and keep users happy without the polarization.

I am sure that there are equally good ways to do the same thing.
Any Ideas?

I agree with you about the new policy potentially creating a quiet tension within/among users. I don't seem to care as much anymore, but when I saw that stupid "bronze" pop up the first time, I was pretty irritated. Well, and when I reconsider it I get irritated all over again.

Lots of people in lots of threads are saying they could care less, that it's just a vaping forum and it's just a silly banner and why not be above it all--but I felt "rated", as Daintainee put it, and more to the point, it felt manipulative and condescending--kind of like high school social rules suddenly institutionalized as part of a place I have been coming to feel at home in.

You're exactly right, caddisfly, that this is VJ's property. Just like ECF belongs to...whomever it belongs to. We could--and would--be censored here just like there if it fit in with the owner's view of what generated useful content. I've been wondering about a user-run forum for quite a while... Probably just a utopian dream, though.

As to finding a way to create happy users and gives them incentive to post, you're right: there are surely many ways. I like VU and am mostly happy here, am glad to have the resource, etc. But the corporate nature of the enterprise comes glaringly through at moments like these.
Sigh. lol. Maybe it just offends my delicate fucking sensibilities. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Kudos to willmc for bringing flavour and spice to canada. The site worked perfectly and the order went through without a hitch. Knowing how you all manage to create amazing recipes that I'll be missing just one flavour for, I'm sure I'll be ordering again soon!

When I see someone like @Slots post, and see "new member" banner, I have to admit, it's just weird. Slots joined here before I did!!

Now, had the banners gig already been in place when we all joined, I wonder if the tension that you mentioned would still be there? I've noticed it, too. I've seen it all over the forum. I truly don't care if we have them, or not. I joined here to spend time with my pals. I still get to do that here. I didn't get to at the other place because they have their panties in too tight a twisted mod wad.

Thank You lirruping for putting into prose what i tried to say in the proposal. I feel the same as you. There must be a better way and hopefully the powers that be will figure it out.

That's a great point about Slots, Huck . . . and the problem with labels of any kind is that they are often a poor representation of the person. Maybe that's the source of the tension?

thing is.. no one is being "censored" here. other than one "taboo" topic on w33d.. its pretty much any and everything going..
new label names actually help out the new people, if you take a look around, it gives a basic guide as to how much people put into this site.
Do you see @VaporJoes or any other staff member pushing an agenda?

i dont.

what i do see is some people do not like it.. so what is a new person to know who to talk with, if they don't know themselves?

if you are really believing this.. perhaps it is time for the group of you guys to make your own site.. own it.. run it, and put it out no labels..
make the changes you so disagree about.. for that is what I see..

if given the chance tho, if you guys stayed.. would you gladly help out, or continue to sit and moan on change?
for without change, how does one grow and learn?
this should be an excellent place for friends both new and old to get together and learn.. share grown and exchange recipes.. that is what this section is for.. will just leave this here, food for thought..

and a ps on older new people.. a forum is designed as a means of communication.. over a period of time that the forum is allowed to hang "online".. those that do know what they are doing.. no.. labels really do not apply.. but common sense on posting should tell that already.. yeah conflicting.. but is it really that big of a deal?

A few people have top badges because they've posted thousands of replies in non-vape related areas. A high level badge doesn't actually show a person's true vape knowledge.

I don't care about the badges and hence won't complain about them. I think it's silly that they came out now, instead of when the site began. They don't show up on my phone. I just think the word donator is hilarious.

Donator is as bad as conversating. It's a bullshit word.

The first time I heard the 'word' conversate was from my nephew. I told him it wasn't a word. Then I had second thoughts and went and looked it up. Happily I was right. Somebody google donator for me.

RP..
even tho some may post in non vape related places way more.. doesnt mean they do not know anything of what they are doing.. (from my point of view)
nor does it mean they are vape geniuses either.. it just shows they have only "been around long enough to collect that said badge".. so yes you are right.. but .. at least they are making new changes and i think it is more for the betterment of the site.. << and that is why i guess you coud say i am happy bout it..

donator.. we all should get that badge lmao.. we donate our posts, every time we post.. lmao.. :p

I don't see anything bad about it really, but I didn't see any other points of view. First time I saw mine, I just thought it was kinda nice and a little recognition for participation. But I respect the feelings of others, as well. No big deal here. ;)

So true! I have Veteran status (since 2009) at the other place, but there are relative noobs who know way more than me. Thinking back to 2009, though, was the inspiration for my new signature here :D

That is so true about vaping noobs knowing a lot! Amazes me sometimes. It reminds me of when my son overtook me in the realm of computer knowledge.
Vaping, like certain kinds of tech, is exploding with innovation and change.
ps: I like your signature :)
edit: not to say I was vaping before it was cool: I started vaping at the exact moment it became cool. And that was only by chance. I was just too old to keep smoking.

Real word, unfortunately.
Urban Dictionary says slang for "sperm donor" :p

Hmm, maybe "supporter" or "patron" would've sounded better?

Sperm donor was my first thought, too. Or blood donor.
Those other alternatives remind me of athletic supporter, patron of the arts, patron saint.
And we've all been badgified. Badgificated. Badgered? Gotta love our language.

My head is still exploding with willmc's/ mamajsjuice.com GAMEOVER Vanilla Custard. I'm vaping a nice lychee variant. It's lychee-licious.

I agree, let's get back to diy. I'm stuck at work but mixing in my mind. Has anyone ever made anise milk? Two percent anise, three percent fresh cream, maybe some cinnamon or clove? It would have to steep awhile for all the flavors to emerge. All typos courtesy of nexus seven.

Angelcigs has the Venturi for 8 bucks. I've never dealt with them before but tempted to pick one up myself.

I just bought a Magma from AngelCigs about 10 days ago. The service was exceptionally fast. If I remember right I ordered in the evening and tracking showed it was picked up the next day. I am in Arizona and I received it 3 days after I ordered it. I am planning to order a Kayfun v4 clone from them when I get paid this week. My favorite reviewer just did a review of their Kayfun v4 clone and said it was the best looking clone he had seen.

I am a new member and if the goal is to inform me of who has the most knowledge and who I should listen to I do not think the current labels are doing that. I have watched hundreds of hours of vape video and have read a large novel vull of print media and I have seen post here by new members that were very useful information and others by Gold members that were merely opinions that may not be truthful. The fact is that not many of us our experts on every area of vaping and just because someone could teach a graduate level course on coil building does not mean they know anything about DiY. I have learned who I trust and who is really trying to help me learn and I do not worry about their lavels.

haha FA question: Is it Vienna Cream that I need to add to make something ice-creamy?

I have A LOT of this OoO Banana Split that seems to be missing something - not ice-creamy at all. I mixed a lot thinking it would turn into something later, but nope. I've added 3% FW French Vanilla, OoO's Sundae Topping tasted like chocolate ice cream (it was just banana + strawberry before), so I threw some of that in there too (diluting the mix as I go). Sometimes the cherry (or strawberry maybe?) peeks out, giving it a rusty quality. All the flavors are in there - I just wanna smooth everything out with some kind of cream, so I can finish vaping this big ole bottle. If I can turn it into some kind of smoothie or milkshake, I'll be happy, and move on to the better stuff you guys are vaping.

awesome. it will cover any order. The shipping is pretty much the same shipping cost for 1 bottle up to 1 pound. a pound of flavoring is a lot. if you order more than that I dont mind covering the couple extra dollars lol.

This sounds good! Let us know how it turns out.
Well, Zeeli I came home and mixed it first thing. Two bottles of 3% Fresh Cream, 2% Anise. To one bottle I added 0.5% Cinnamon. To the other I added 0.5% Clove.
I tasted both. They're just okay. I'm going to let them sit for a few days then adjust. Tentative thoughts: The milk is there, though I might up it a bit. The clove is stronger than the cinnamon. That's all I've got right now and these thoughts might go away given a little steeping time.

I've got to ask. Was your Donator a serious recipe? If so, you have a serious sweet tooth! :D

Anise is a bully. Maybe drop the % on that rather than upping the cream. I have never tried clove. Cinnamon milk sounds good though lol

The "Donator" I made yesterday and am vaping it now. I do enjoy sweets (all day long, with a fast metabolism ) and I don't really find this overly sweet. It is on fresh cotton so maybe I need to get past the "new cotton" taste? But it is pretty yummy!

I've heard that Anise kind of takes over after a day or two. If so, I'll reduce it for sure. We'll see. I am looking for a lightly flavored milk.

Since you were serious, I'll give Donator a try. I didn't mean to knock your recipe, it just looked over the top sweet to me. I'll find out. Thanks for the tip on anise.

No knock taken. We all have different taste buds. It seems with Donator, the after taste that lingers around is different each with each pull. Maybe my imagination though.
I did give it a 24 hour steep.

It's me again - and this IS an FA related question I promise...:D ... I have all glass tanks at the moment... but was looking at one that is acrylic.... has anyone had any experience with a flavor cracking a tank? (FA flavors, that is since that's pretty much all I'll be using)
I've been looking around and haven't found anything...except for an old post that said tiramisu does. which is interesting. I thought it was only fruity types that did it.
But just want to be sure.
