I always try to talk to vapers when I run into them on the streets. I spoke to 2 people who purchased their starter kits from 2 different vendors just this past week. They were both rocking the ever popular subvod. When I asked them how they were making out, they both said it was too harsh to use.
My next question was How much nicotine they were using.
    They both said 18mg
I said that's way too high.
They said thats what the vendor recommended for someone trying to quit.
    Vendors: Shame on you!
As us more experienced vapers know, 18 mg+sub-ohm=intense throat hit
I've seen very few people who can handle 18mg in a sub-ohm tank, and they are all experienced vapers.
It makes me wonder how many people are still smoking because they tried a setup like this.
The next time I'm in the area of either of these vendors, I will go in and speak to them about this issue, and I encourage others to relate this message to their local vendors

Maybe I should elaborate. Vendors sell 18mg/ml nicotine eliquid. If the title seems confusing, Let me know and I'll try to change it.

Lol no I'm sorry it's just that most of the vendors I see sell 3/6/12 these days.

I know of 1 that still sells 24mg, but these are more convenience store or cigar shops style, not dedicated vape shops. But these are the places new users are going to.

Sub ohm tanks are for 0 to about 6 mg. nicotine, the older tanks can go as high 24 or even more. 18 is what a pack and half day user would usually vape starting out with one of the older tanks.

Tasty Vapor, Viking Vapor, and VapingZone still sells 36mg. I used to vape 48mg Kretek from Tasty Vapor. It gave me the sensation of a full head of hair on my bald head 6 years ago :D

I'll pass. High nic was used with early vaping equipment. I did quit smoking with those. While you were still stinking up the place Lol

So many did, I quit with a .5 ohm and 3mg, from a pack a day cold turkey. A year and a half later I'm still on 3 but my vapor density has increased greatly so I guess I'm going backwards.

Maybe 6mg would have you vape less. Have you tried it ? I vaped 6 mg for awhile, but it was too much for me after awhile.

My wife still enjoys 18mg with a Provari and a Cyclone RDA. People do vape other than sub ohm with nice equipment. You guys just want more profit manufacturing low nic juice Lol This is why I started DIY back in early 2011. I thought the juice was overpriced back then, even with high nic.

As I said in my message " Remember that we are on the SUB OHM movement where a small amount of nic. does wonders...". I see nothing wrong with vaping 18 mg and that's why I still make it. For example people vaping 1.2 ohms and up will have no problems with it, but if you go SUB OHM it will give you a very strong throat hit.

One of the main challenges is that when someone is new to vaping one has to be careful with recommendations. Since a beginner is inexperienced it will not be able to identify that the issue of the e-juice is the throat hit that the high nic causes. That could lead to a beginner thinking that a perfectly flavored e-juice is bad tasting because of the throat hit. One thing that I usually do when someone wants to taste my juices is that I give them no nic juice so they can appreciate the flavor. If they like the flavor then we add nic until the desired amount of throat hit is achieved.

In the matter of the profit in my opinion, at least for me it doesn't make a great difference. If you do DIY you know that if you buy a highly concentrated nic the amount needed to change the nic concentration of your final e-juice mixture is very small. That's why I personally don't keep track on how many cents (if any) will I profit from selling low nic e-juice. I think that I could profit more from creating a product that will satisfy my costumer needs so they will buy again, so I prefer to spend more to keep the costumer than to loose it over a few cents. Maybe that's one of the advantages of keeping the vaping business between small business.

Just to say, In my case the nic cost is the least of my worries. Since all that I do is N.E.T. e-juice my production cost's are in the flavor extracts. Each extract takes more that a week to produce so that's why I don't even bother with the nic.

In either case let's Vape On! and have fun.

I still use 18mg although squonking with a fairly "newer" style rda. Though being fair I have a screwy physiology.

I've used 18mg Nic juice in my Smok R40 (usually at 25 watts, default settings for the rest) on a CLP2 Micro Coil and it's not harsh, but it is a big difference than the 12mg juice. Also the vendors around town sell 18mg, but they say they are trying to shy away from anything over 12mg because most vapers want to go down in MG, and not up.

Yeah. I would like to go to 12mg as I've been vaping 18mg for about a year or so now. Wife would like seeing me use 0 nicotine but not sure I'll get there. I like the 18mg in part because I can set the vape aside for a bit, come back an hour or few later and vape up to get my nicotine buzz on again. Reading you say 12 & 18mg are big differences makes me not feel like cutting down. Aw well.

It's not THAT big of a difference, you'd just have to vape maybe a bit more to get that same "buzz" (I haven't had a buzz from nicotine in years, even with the 18mg juice, it was more of a over-exposure, or it could have been the juice since it was made by the store, and it's a very small store in a very small town).

If I were you, I would get some 12mg juice, and maybe use 1ml of it, then swap back to your 18mg, or vice-versa, and you'll be able to go down eventually. It's a lot of mind over matter, because I just swapped down to a 6mg juice because they didn't have it in 12mg but it was such an awesome flavor (Alien Piss 2, it's a strawberry type of juice) and I've been using that juice exclusively for the last 24 hours and I'm not even having to vape more to not "fiend" a little bit.

There's no hurt in trying it out for a bit :) -- I'm eventually going to go down to 0 nicotine, and then quit vaping altogether. Compared to coming off Opiates and even just Suboxone, coming off cigarettes is WAY easier lol.

I can take a few hits and be good for a hour or so (unless ive been drinking lol). Anyways just putting my 2 cents in.

I fell into this category a year ago, walked in picked up a Subvod was dipping 2 1/2 cans of Copenhagen snuff a day they recommended 18mg. They showed me how to run my device and set it up with some Cuttwood Unicorn Milk handed it off to me and I proceeded to hit it and consequently starting choking and damn near puked right there. Now I do run 12 or less on my Avocado, but still get scared when I load up my TFV8.

How's that for a first post? lol

I've started with 18mg but that was with some crappy gear.
As I advanced in gear I lowered my nic till I finally reached 3mg.
These days new vapers start out with much better attys that are much more effective at delivering nic, so there is really no need for such high nic.
    I suppose 12mg is the new 18mg.

I'm new here, but have been vaping about a year. I started on a nautilus mini and went to a kangertech subox mini and have just ordered a
Smoktech Alien 220W Starter kit. I'm really happy with my 18 mg. I used it to quit smoking and when I switched to the kangertech I just vape for awhile, set it down for an hour or two and then come back. I have a everyday vape I like and get from vista Vapors that I can get the 18 mgs. and pan to stay there for awhile. I went down for a bit and the cigarettes at the gas stations started looking tasty.

I can somewhat understand higher nicotine for MTL but not for making the clouds like the sub ohm setups do. That would definitely drive me away too. Yuk!

I only vaped 24nic for the first month in a ego stick and clearo to kick the ciggys. Went down to 18 with my protanks and was fine till I got a kayfun then began to get headaches at 18 so cut down to 12nic and vaped the kayfuns. Now with my kanger subtanks I vape 9nic with regular single wire coils but vape 6 with my lower ohm claptons. It may have took me 3+ years to cut down but its happening, better delivery systems comes lower nic levels. I also don't inhale every vape or take smaller hits when I'm going to inhale or even with 6nic I can give myself a headache from the nic.

yea thats a BIT much lol i do 12mg in dual 0.2 but thats my taste. i can see why some people are turned off by bad 1st vape impressions given by b&m blockheads... sure a kanger subox kit for 200 bucks is reasonable LMAO!!

12mg in a Kanger Nano is what I started with. The lady at the b/M recommended 6. I think I woulda ended up choking out a random stranger if I had listened to her. LOL
It took a year for the cravings to subside with the 12. I switched to 6 as soon as I got my Alien/Baby Beast combo. Soooo much more vapor. I could easily give myself a buzz with 6. Now I'm cutting the 6 with 1/3 VG to get 4. I can still buzz up if I chain vape a few times.

Good post. I am relatively new to vaping and used it to quit a twenty cigar a day habit. I inhaled them. I bought a Kangertech subvod mega TC kit and although the dealer recommended 6mg. nicotine or less, I started with 18mg. After one week of chain vaping I bought twelve milligram. Next visit I bought 6 mg. and today, I purchased 1.5. For me it was important to start with a high enough nicotine to replace the feeling of heavy smoking and flavor a secondary concern. Today is my 50th day tobacco free. My wife (also extremely heavy smoker) has quit too and I recommend vaping as an effective nicotine delivery system for anyone wanting to quit smoking. We both agree that for us, nicotine patches and gum were ineffective as quit smoking aids. I joined this site today and an glad it exists. It is very helpful for learning from people that know about vaping and can give solid advice from experience.

My very first setup was a Provari 2.5 and Kayfun Lite when they came out, .9Ω-1.2Ω was my sweet spot for MTL'ing @ 18mg-12mg nic, that's how I initiated my need to stop smoking cigarettes, then again, I was smoking Newports and Marlboro Menthols, so I needed to replicate that experience with a vape, a good throat thump as they say. Now fast forward 4 years later to now, I stick with series builds and sub ohm coils, I like to get the full taste and experience of the premium juices that I spend a lot of money on unlike not being able to taste anything blowing plumes cuz your boiling your juice, not vaping it. I'm a flavor junkie, I love my mechs, don't use my DNAs much other than an Ω reader. Generally, I use .1Ω for sub Ω'ing and .4Ω-.7Ω on my series builds @ 6mg/3mg nic, I do love my nicotine, and if a juice is "throaty", I'll vape 3mg. If there's no depth (nic) in the juice or if it's way too smooth, I'll add some good quality nic myself.

I started out on an Aspire starter kit this past summer. I bought 24 mg Nickle Slots to vape in it. When I went to a *real* sub-ohm outfit (Horizon Tornado and a Kanger 120 w TC mod) I went to 12 mg Nickel Slots. The vape shop cut my leftover 24 mg liquid for me down to 12 mg too. Now I DIY my liquid and I find that 10 mg juice is my sweet spot.

It's true, we are a pretty sub ohm centric activity. But there are still plenty of starter kits flying off the shelves with higher nic juice, just not so much at the vendors I (and probably you) still use.

It only took me two tries...

I really thought MFS would do the trick, but I didn't wade through all the Fog Juice brands to find a tootle puffer's selection.

Remembered my Wyatt Earp from back in my carto days... FreedomSmokes USA... 36mg nic available. Booyah. :D
That'll take the top of your head off.

And I've dripped that in 24mg, it's just that tasty (some sort of ultra rich RY4 I'd guess, I just DIY my own now... at 6mg ;) ).

I just started vaping 2 1/2 weeks ago as a way to quit smoking. I bought both 18 and 11mg juices to run in my aspire nautilus. After being frustrated by flooding and leaking with my tank I bought a tvf8 online. I found out the hard way that running the higher nicotine in the tvf8 doesn't work for me. My wife is buying my low nicotine juice for Christmas to run in the sub ohm and I'm using my current juice in the aspire.

Yeah, 18mg (12mg for me) for MTL vaping & 11mg (6mg for me) for sub ohms tanks. If it's not thumping your throat at 6mg, most devices have an increase button for the wattage.. or maybe 9mg nic. Also, I have premium quality nic around and I'll sometimes add some to a 3mg/6mg if it's not satisfying enough..

    :)

I'm running a reuleaux 2/3 mod. Run 11 watts or so on the aspire tank and 20-25 with the tvf8. I know it's designed to run at a higher wattage but it's a little too much right now. I'm working up to a higher wattage as I get used to it.

Forgot to say congrats on quitting the smokes and starting your vaping adventure @Carhauler71 :). Yeah, vaping is totally personally preference, like your favorite seafood or BBQ restaurant, subject to taste, as with vaping. In late 2012, when I started, I vaped a ProTank on a Provari (tank & regulated device), 1 ohm usually less than 20 watts 18mg nicotine for MTL. This kept me off the cigs for at least a year before I go into building my own coils. Then experimenting wattages and builds came. And now, an all out hobbyist, enthusiast, vape shop worker, supporter & promoter.

The shop I work at, we make all our liquid in 0-24mg. However, we only do up to 6mg in our 80% VG blends. We do have people that use 18 & 24 out of subtanks, but for the most part only our customers that use evod pens and stuff like that stick to the high nicotines. I would say 90% of our sub ohm people like 3mg

Like others have posted, everyone has their own comfort level. That's one of the nice things about vaping (each can find what works for them). I'm currently vaping 20mg @ 0.4ohm and running it at 17watts on an RDA. If I drop down to 0.2ohm, the 20mg is too high and I use 18mg. The tricky part is finding what works for the person, especially when it's a newbie vaper.

Well, I am now experimenting with 6-7mg/ml juice. I am mainly using it in what I think of as a MTL setup due to the drip tip. I still use the 18mg/ml though. I might go to 6 or 7mg/ml, not sure quite yet but at least I'm attempting it to see. :)

Had a guy at work who started Vaping at 24mg, would stand outside with a Stinkie in one had and his Vape in another. He then started subohm at 18mg without having to have a Stinkie in the other. He subohmed 18mg for a while and has eventually dropped down to 3mg now after a year of vaping. He was also a 2+ pack a day smoker.

So it just comes down to what ever works for the individual, one size doesn't fit all.

With that said, generally and in most cases it's not a good idea to start subohm at first when coming off the Stinkies. First time Vapers really need to start off with MTL between 12mg - 18mg then transition to subohm if they so choose, everyone's needs are different.

That's what I did. Have a MTL that I still run sometimes with 12 mg and run either 3 or 6 in my subohms.
