Speaking of Juul... I mentioned that I've been hanging out a lot over at Quora; someone today asked a question about vaping/Juul, and this was my response:

Is there any definitive proof that vaping (JUUL) is detrimental to one’s health?

Nope, not one iota. However there is a real lot of hysterical posturing, ignorant blathering, and general stupidity.

Vaping is the MOST EFFECTIVE means of quitting smoking, or preventing smoking, THAT HAS EVER BEEN INVENTED. This is why Big Pharma, Big Tobacco, and various gov’ts are so deadset against it — if everyone quits smoking, there will be no more tobacco taxes to prop up incompetent bureaucracies, so the unethical who have invested in the continuation of smoking — those states which have sold tobacco bonds against future tobacco sales — are really feeling the pinch, and are desperate to try and do anything they can to discourage vaping, in ANY form.

Any never-smoker who might be interested in vaping, whether a Juul or any other form of vaping, is someone who might have been interested in smoking, if vaping did not exist. Many of those who try smoking, become so addicted that it’s nearly impossible for them to quit, or perhaps they manage to quit for a time, but inevitably go back to it — and vaping is a good thing for those people too, even if they have already quit smoking by whatever means — vaping can help them prevent a relapse to smoking.

In England, there is an organization called the Royal College of Physicians — a very well-respected organization, who were the FIRST to announce the dangers of smoking, beating the US Surgeon General by several years on that pronouncement. The Royal College of Physicians has stated, DEFINITIVELY, that “the dangers of vaping cannot exceed 5% of the dangers of smoking, and is probably less.” That means that vaping is AT LEAST 95% safer than smoking. Public Health England says exactly the same thing.

Just in case you’re actually interested in TRUTH rather than hysterical posturing, ignorant blathering, and general stupidity, here are some links which I urge anyone who cares to go and read:

I made this sign a couple years ago; anyone who'd like to, use it on a T-shirt or wherever else it might be appropriate. We gotta fight these ignorant and/or greedy bastards with everything we've got.

A Fucking Fugee Merry Holidays To Everyone!

I got nominated to do the honor of decorating out 4 ft tall artificial tree today. Reckon I'll find some Christmas musical show/s on Roku later. Need to be feeling Christmas.

Had a spat of being without some mental health medication. Apparently it fooled me & was in fact doing something to help. At least yesterday's double the highest dose dose did. Think dopamine is being released, feel like a toasty tipsy without the rest of the effects.

There was a mess of this and that going on twixt the agency and the pharmacy. They got it fixed. Seems the agency was looking for more profit off the meds than what the pharmacy gave. The pharmacy uses generics & will only pay that rate out. Brand name is what the agency was trying to give at 100 times more cost.

The Boss Lady, she drop a the big hammer on a they ass. They no like a talk to a her, she get a what they say a nasty. So a the pharmacy won out and got the green light on a generic. Boss Lady she a be rather the a diplomat but I know a you no wanna gets her pissed off, she cut you with a smile.

Well y'all hang it loose an if ya need to have the happy happy joy joy you know ya can always go fuck yourself. :) Much loves today for all the peoples. I oughta, ...

This kinda reminded me about what I seen last night on the local news. A Pharmacist in my area turned in the big drug companies to the investigative news in New Orleans and it resulted in the new drug laws Trump just signed banning the practice. The drug companies was forcing the pharmacist to charge out the ass for drug to those with insurance and that money was going straight to the drug companies If the pharmacist said anything they would be black balled and put out of business. The greed of big Pharma was unreal. They revealed some people with insurance had to pay $500 for a drug yet if they went in and bought it with no insurance, it would only cost around $15. Multiple instances of this was happening and if big pharma heard of any pharmacist telling people its way cheaper if they didnt have insurance, that pharmacy would not be able to buy ANY drugs from them again effectively putting them out of business.

Crap like this is why I am so damn against Obamacare. The problem was never insurance cost, the problem was always the blatant greed of the medical industry. Yet congress will never do a damn thing to stop that. Too much medical money in politics.

We bought ourselves a nice xmas gift today. Remember back in '16, in December, our xmas was cancelled because of losing my mom in Oct, so we bought that white truck. Well we got this letter from our dealership this week, telling us that because of our perfect payment history, we were eligible to retire our current loan or lease and get something else for around the same $.

Well, that was kinda overselling it, to say "around the same $"... but we did get another truck today. It's the same year, 2016, but it's got the "LT" pkg (luxury), and is a real improvement in several ways:

1) it's got a bed-liner;
2) it's got a trailer-hitch;
3) it's 4000 less miles;
4) it's got the identical very expensive Michelin tires like the ones we bought back in the summer;
5) it's got separate climate-controls for driver and passenger;
6) the biggest bestest difference is the bigger backseat; instead of a "double cab", it's got the "crew cab" -- a full-sized backseat;
7) much nicer dash "infotainment" console, with larger color screen, voice-activation, and several important controls right on the steering wheel, and it even has a CD player, along with those wonderful USB ports in the center-console.

So, we had to hang there all damn day, but we finally got them to a price that makes our monthly pmts only $67 more than we were paying... I think that's a pretty good deal, for a good bit more truck. It was a close thing, though, because apparently interest rates have gone up pretty considerably since Dec 2016.

I got a pic of our latest truck, but unless you see it compared to the one we traded, it's very hard to see any differences.

This is the one we got in Dec 2016, that we traded in yesterday:
lasttruck.jpg

This is the one we just got:
currenttruck.jpg

The main visual differences are the larger cab/shorter bed on the new one, and a chrome bumper rather than painted -- also the new one has white rather than black door handles, and the side mirrors are white/black, rather than plain black.

One other difference, which is kinda strange: the new one is a V8, the old one a V6, but the mileage specs on the V8 are actually better! Time will tell I guess, if we actually do get better mileage. They're the same year, so it's hard to imagine there would be that big a diff in the technology, but who knows. The old one could use flex-fuel (ethanol 85%) but the new one, regular gasoline only. :(

Crap like this is why I am so damn against Obamacare. The problem was never insurance cost, the problem was always the blatant greed of the medical industry. Yet congress will never do a damn thing to stop that. Too much medical money in politics.

Well, the Androgel that I was taking, my daily mainline of testosterone, cost at least $90 per 50 mL packet. Each box had roughly 30 packets in it. So each box if paid for in full would run around $2,520. If I were say an unscrupulous kind of person I could feasibly sell a box for $3,000 easily.

Now, if I were working 40-80 hrs week at a factory and got on with a nice group insurance plan, ... well for one thing any insurance would cost half a month's pay even being group plans. Second, as I have a congenital problem requiring testosterone the rest of my life, insurance writes it up as per-existing, "oh sorry we don't pay for that." I do not have any kind of insurance except the recent saving grace of the socialist terror Obamacare making it a little easier for folks living under federal poverty levels to get Medicaid.

That's all we're able to do. And yes, I am busting my brain, busting my butt too, to try and find some kind of decent work around. I have even thought of going and hiring on to a/ rebuild/s crew/s for down in NC, out in CA, where ever the crews need to go. I'm nothing but extra hands, general labor but I'm sure swinging a hammer and setting nails is helpful enough to at least cover board and a small bit home. Trouble is not knowing for what kind of crew you'd climb in with and risk being on the crew of cannibals or worse.

I agree with you about too much Pharma / Big Business money being in politics. Money in general there seems kerosene tossed on an inferno of corruption. Ought to be a law again money in there aside from how old Ross Perot did it, "gimme a dollar, you're my boss." I know why he was wanting to set stuff around to doing different. He had no more workers and saw America needed work, knew a way to give us work that could be done affordable. He had some aces up his sleeve I believe. The point being he didn't want money from companies, corporations, bankers ... just the people. But the scum that it is drove him out of wanting to do.

Still think maybe a General Strike would help make voices heard. "Oh, we're on strike of shopping or spending money." "Strike here too on working, hauling goods." The Hell with a government shutdown, what happens when the people shut down? *ahem* Ah, 'scuse me I'll hush my triple A secular humanist mouth afore I gets extreme renditioned or some snarfu. *cough* Awe look at that Johnny is on antenna tv, a local over the air digital channel. Cool beans, watch old stale jokes still hold relevance. :) I'll has me a beer and Johnny, yup I'm just yer normel muricun!

first use was to look at the spark in my Blazer. One capacitive probe on the coil wire and another on #1 wire and you can tell which cylinder is not firing right.

Don't forget to set the gaping for timing issues as well. Think that's on the plugs, if I'm recalling my jimmying around right. Know for sure the alternator belt needs set for timing too, thinking it was done on plugs too a while back.

Set our little :treetrim: up and decorated it. We have a :wreath:on our door so I decorated it up a little as well. Wife made up some peanut butter fudge and I :santasnack: it all up. My :newyear: was over Halloween this year. Think I am switching back to a thirteen month (lunar) calendar just so I can keep time sorted for myself. Kind of grew up with folks that could recall their grand father's and fathers using lunar calendars. Bit of interesting factoid about Timberville, VA, one of the towns I grew up around, there were lumber runners and farmers there four hundred years ago and yes European. They just within the last five years tore down a four hundred year old farm house, mansion. There was a barn about five hundred years old that about a decade ago finally gave way under some flooding and high winds. Just some odd bit of history of folks.

All done with electronic mirrors and sensors now.

*nods* Computers. I don't really like the idea of computers running cars. It's about kin to the notion of chips in regulated mods. Hm, maybe I'm a Luddite in disguise? *grin*

Wife has had sensors that themselves go bad then cause false readings, troubles with a car running. Then you need to pay through the nose to get someone to look at the indicated problem, not fix it. Take it back, pay again for them to check the sensor.

"But, but, but, ... They're an accredited mechanic, huh!?"

Ahhh for the days of just setting the dwell angle and going :p
Within reason I like today's vehicles longevity and reliability much better.
one seldom has trouble with fuel injectors vs carburetors and spark plugs last longer than the old engines did.

However when one does have trouble with a new engine it can be lots more difficult to analyze.

Love your avi Mrs Claus :) :hohoho:

Mrs Claus is about beat, tonight -- first time I've sat down in what feels like HOURS, but I finally got everything to a stopping place, and now I'm about to retire to my latest book and unwind before bed.

We rented a Rug Doctor at wallyworld tonight, to get rid of a perfectly horrid and huge stain on the carpet in my room -- hard to appreciate the new bed and stuff with that obscenity staring you in the face, right where you walk into the room. Those things do a damn good job, but the oldest part of the stain has been there since about 6 months after the carpet was put down (which is nearly 7 yrs ago now), and you can still see it, faintly, so we'll do another pass on it tomorrow before returning the machine.

Got the turkey breast roasted, washed clean of fat, and put away in the fridge to await Mr Claus cutting it tomorrow, for the xmas day sandwiches. Got the 2 cakes I'm giving as gifts to aunt and stepdad done, glazed, and wrapped, now also in the fridge.

Tomorrow, come hell or high water or carpet cleaning, I have to 1) call my stepfather to confirm the time that the spawn will be picking his up on xmas day (he doesn't drive anymore since his last stroke, can't see well enough); 2) make ejuice, since I got below half a bottle tonight; and 3) make the potato salad for xmas day. And I'll probably go ahead and take my shower before bed tomorrow night, so there will be 2 guys vying for the hot water xmas day, rather than all 3 of us. ;-)

When you said you got an oscilloscope I thought of an old engine analyzer my dad had when I was a kid and we was able to set the dwell on a cranking engine with that. Back in the days when tuning an engine was an art and even as a little kid, I was getting my hands greasy :teehee:

Your right Bob, today they control all aspects of engine operations now far better than they did with points and carburetors. The electronic engine control innovation helped many other industries. That same technology was applied to aircraft and when I left the industry it was to the point you needed a kid just to figure out how to run the software. I could hook a laptop up to some of these newer model helicopters and know everything that aircraft is doing. Speed of rotating components and their vibration levels, operating temps of various components on an aircraft and a world of information that is both good and bad. Computers on these aircraft will also tell every aspect of the aircraft in flight including pilot input on controls so they cant be off fucking around like we use to do. Now its only straight and steady flight (unless they have a mechanic who knows how to corrupt the data so the head shed dont find out :p )

All this from the innovations of the auto industry. Thats why I am so excited over a commercial moon colony. I really want to see the technological innovation from such an endeavor.

That's all true, and I know it was necessary, given fuel constraints nowadays. But.. remember back when cars were mechanical, and us down here in the deep south, if the damn thermostat went out, you just took that bastard out and ran without it -- or, if you lived up north I guess, you might have to replace it, but it was a minor, low-cost repair. Now, it's fucking $250 and you can't run the AC at all, unless you have one that works properly. Shit like that just pisses me off!

Yeah but the point is that most all cars have AC now.
Thermostat is also engineered into proper cooling system flow.
Without the flow restriction of a thermostat certain cylinders might run hot due to insufficient coolant flow.

Actually, I think I have to take that back -- there's another dental problem that people are constantly yammering about if you smoke (or vape) -- the dreaded so-called "dry socket". I'm not even going to say how many teeth I've had pulled... and never suffered that much-vaunted problem. And I smoked after every one of them, and had no "dry sockets". However, JUST after an extraction, I would cut the filters in half of however many cigarettes I smoked in the first 6-ish hrs post-extraction, so as not to start them bleeding again.

When dentists would tell me not to smoke after having a tooth pulled, or some other dental work, first I would laugh. Then I would advise the clueless dentist that smoking was a simple fact of my existence, so I would be smoking even when I had to hold the cigarette to my lips with both hands, while still numbed from novocaine. Dentists and doctors always seem to have this idea that smoking (or vaping, now, to some extent) is something volitional, when it's nothing of the sort. If going without something causes that much suffering, you make sure you don't go without it for longer than you can possibly avoid.

Fortunately, vaping does seem to have a much looser grip, as I very happily discovered when I had the flu and didn't vape at all for about 10-12 days, and didn't miss it until I actually started feeling halfway human again.

Andria

My 18 year old daughter had all 4 of her wisdom teeth outin a total of 2 sessions (2 on each, about a month and a half apart). due to her concern about dry socket, she continued to vape...though doing the DL's through her nose...I don't know aobut you, but I"d be concerned aobut the vape going straight into the sinuses like that...but what do I know....

to each their own, but I've got 2 serious issues with GM vehicles, trucks in particular (more issues, but just the 2 with GM) :tantrum:

1) I really don't give a rip about all the "if they went bacnkrupt, think of all the peoople that would be out of work"..if my business were failing, would the gubment step in and bail me out..don't think so...under no circumstances should the gubment bailed out gm or Chrysler!

2) why in the hell would you take a wheel well opening designed for ROUND tires and make it SQUARE>>looks dumb as &^*%*&^^ IMHO

I used to work for a carpet distributor/wharehouse & often, p[icked up from a distributor for Host carpet cleaner..one time, I had some medical issues at home & lost several pints of blood...even after multiple steam cleanings, you could still see it ever so slightly when it began to dry....I flipped a coin, bought a large box of Host cleaner, rented a machine & it worked like a charm...not to mention giving the whole house a nice citrusy smell.
depending on your location, there might be a location near you that rents the machines & sells the cleaner...I'd do it all over again, using host the first time if I ever bled all over the carpet like that again

Doesn't vapor end up in the sinuses usually anyway?

It does in mine. That was how I learned to vape to get maximum nicotine, and even now that I really don't need the nicotine, I still vape that way, because it provides much better flavor. But that was why I finally had to totally discontinue using Flash -- the active ingredient in that stuff is piperine, the stuff that makes black pepper zingy -- and as everyone knows, black pepper dust in your nose causes violent sneezing. The Flash was making me go around all the time feeling like I had a sneeze coming on, and sometimes I did sneeze, violently, over and over. I guess after the smoke was gone and my sinuses had healed sufficiently, the mucosa was just too sensitive to tolerate that chemical.

And that's the thing... we vape so that we don't smoke. We smoked for years... decades in many cases... and now people are worried about what VAPOR is doing to them?????????? Get serious. There isn't one goddamned thing that vapor can do to you that isn't 1000 times worse in smoking. Maybe 10,000 times worse in smoking! After years of deliberately inhaling POISON... now people are worried about some PG/VG and flavors?????????

It reminds me of some of my fellow recovering alkies who pickled their innards for YEARS... and now are worried about a little grain alcohol in their fucking mouthwash -- which ISN'T swallowed! My reaction to either is this:

to each their own, but I've got 2 serious issues with GM vehicles, trucks in particular (more issues, but just the 2 with GM) :tantrum:

1) I really don't give a rip about all the "if they went bacnkrupt, think of all the peoople that would be out of work"..if my business were failing, would the gubment step in and bail me out..don't think so...under no circumstances should the gubment bailed out gm or Chrysler!

2) why in the hell would you take a wheel well opening designed for ROUND tires and make it SQUARE>>looks dumb as &^*%*&^^ IMHO

We love Chevy trucks because they're made of steel, not aluminum... like Fords. :facepalm:

Toyota is my fav auto brand.
And most sold here are made here.

I've driven chevys since I started driving, with very few exceptions, and chevys are still my favorites. The mate wants to eventually get a brand new GMC, but that time is not yet, since we still haven't gotten those 6 lucky numbers. :D

I owned and driven Fords, Dodges and Chevys. They are all good. GF's new truck is a Ford. Nice truck. The other truck in the yard is a chevy. We kept it because its very dependable. If either one of us needs a back up there it is. When peeps put down on one brand or another one, its opinion and only opinion.

Kudo's to you for knowing that trick Andria. Most housewives dont. During the days of cast iron V8's that trick worked great and I did it a few times myself. Today with aluminum heads in most cars you will damage the engine if you run it without the thermostat. I tried it a few times and it over heats real fast.
