Welcome, RyGon! You've definitely come to the right place . . . lots of knowledgeable, friendly and helpful folks here. I don't get to come in here as much as I'd like, but I always learn something new. I've been a "member" for quite a while, but still consider myself to be a novice at mixing flavors together to get that "wow" vape. Therefore, I'm going to yield the floor to the experts :). I think a malted milk ball juice would be awesome!
I've had trouble with that one. I did mix some FA Irish Cream with TFA Malted Milk, a touch of cream. Not bad at all.

HIC founded the original group, lol, over on ECF. That was an epic thread and worth reading every page. For lack of better terms, I'll call that one "the infancy through toddler years". We've chosen to continue efforts here at this fine vaping forum, thanks to @VaporJoes . Many people pop in from time to time saying they've read both and feel like they know everyone. Glad you're joining in the fun!

Anything at all that I've learned about flavoring has come from the fine people in this thread. There was some amazing stuff going on before, and it continually grows.

As far as fresh fruits go, FlavourArt is sure to please! Very real tasting, very bright and delicious fruit flavors. Vanillas, I've been blown away by. I've always enjoyed creamy vapes, myself, and have not been disappointed in the creams by FA. Vienna, Fresh, Vanilla Classic... Vanilla Tahiti is one I've yet to get but gets rave reviews, too.

Browse through the recipe section, too. HIC, wllmc, DownInTn, Cramptholomew, SmokyBlue, ChickenMonkey, RocketPuppy... who am I forgetting? All great recipes, some mostly FA, some all FA. GREAT STUFF. Also browse the reviews section. HIC has developed some astounding reviews of FA flavors standalone and also how they work for recipes. Very passionate about creating good vapes. Totally blown away, I'm tellin' ya.

Welcome aboard RyGon :)
You forgot you! I have a few but nothing compared to the others

Thanks for the shout out. I am a fairly new vaper since 6/28/14. This is the first and only forum that I have joined. I have been greatly inspired by the old guard and veteran vapers. There are so many people here willing to help. I have found that diy is an exciting challenge and I really enjoy making a vapable eliquid after my first subpar store bought expensive efforts. Everyone that participates in this thread especially, has really helped me. Thanks to you all.

Hello FA club, I'm glad I found something like this. Please bear with a newb. I read about the clearstream project and had this crazy idea to try my hand at DIY and stick to only flavors that have passed their cytotoxic analysis. The list I found was pretty limited and after finding your "club" I thought if anyone could help it would be these guys/gals. So feel free to roll your eyes but anything that might point me in the right direction would be much appreciated.

My tastes are pretty diverse and I enjoy a stable of distinct profiles to vape from when I get the craving rather than a highly complex all day vape. Ideally, I would eventually build a group, for example a Hawaiian punch, a malted milk ball, a fresh fruit, a cherry cavendish, and a whiskey Cameroon cigar. These are just examples but I think you can understand what I'm saying. I avoid banana, anise, and menthol. I tend to like commercial juices with creamy undertones but vanillas often taste perfumey to me even in small amounts.

Please don't think I'm coming on here with my first post demanding miracles. Just had an idea, came across your group and thought I'd throw it out there. I read the first 19 pages I think and you seem like good people that know your stuff. Glad this group exists.
Welcome, you have come to a great place to learn, be inspired and obtain brilliant advice.

Thanks, Huck! Of course, I don't have any TFA Malted Milk

The spec list on that flavoring used to say it contains 'custard notes.' Now it's just blank, apparently awaiting testing again. The lowest amount it could have possibly listed (least amount TFA seems to test for) is "<.5%". It's reasonable to assume it still contains custard notes.

IF...IF you're willing to use a TFA flavor with probable custard notes, then you might want to know FA makes a Malt flavor in their Kitchen line. The last listed diacetyl percent was "0.01%". They no longer provide percent info for Kitchen flavors, but it has not been reformulated to remove that 0.01%. I've never used it, but Malt plus Fresh Cream sounds like Malted Milk to me. Using FA for it would likely decrease the custard notes (versus the TFA flavor) and might taste better. My opinion on vaping custard notes is totally irrelevant; I'm just relaying info.

Oh yeah! I love cigar vapes. The Cigar Passion flavor is spicy cedar cigar and makes a great base to build upon. Then there is Tuscan Reserve, it's described as "the finest Italian Cigar", it's really good by itself or as part of a blend.

Whiskey + cigar sounds really interesting! I may have to play around with that myself. ;)

Well you guys are certainly active. Woke up in the morning and there were almost 20 new posts.

So after a little more looking around I am more confused about this clearstream thing. I noticed the most recent published studies on the clearstream site are from 2012. I saw that this issue was discussed a bit a couple of months ago in "HIC's homevape peanut butter" thread. Have they tested the whole ecig flavor line? Have they published any more of the tests? I thought this was a great program but didn't realize it was in the past.

I'm not interested in DIY with any flavors that contain those diketones.

Then before you order flavors, check to be sure they don't have an inhalation warning on FA's main website: http://flavourartexpress.biz/ If they contain any custard notes, even a ten-thousandth of a percent, they'll have a warning. No warning means no diacetyl or related diketones.

You can use 'contact us' at the top of that page if you want to open a ticket (ask a question). That would be where to ask about Clearstream, if you have questions about it. Remember they are many time zones away from most of us. It only took a day or two when I contacted them, and at least 2 people there knew enough English to have a fairly scientific conversation with me. Some Clearstream info is only in Italian, but google translate does a passable job with it.

Thanks HeadInClouds, I went ahead and submitted a ticket.

I am encouraged that it appears they have completely eliminated Diacetyl, Acetoin, and Acetyl Propionyl from the e-cig line but I thought the transparency and real world application of final products in the cytotoxic analysis was extremely beneficial to the industry and us consumers. It would certainly be far easier to make some good juices with the entire e-cig line available but I sure would feel better if I knew one of these documented tests were available for every flavoring component I was using. The efforts that they have made already distinguish FA over the other options in my book but I don't know if my expectations are completely realized.

Thanks HIC! When I ordered that flavor, there weren't any notes about that, so I appreciate the info. I don't vape it very often at all, but it's definitely worth reconsidering now. Much obliged :)

FA works closely and constantly with chemists to test for known inhalation hazards. Just 2 companies to do so; FA tests with greater precision (looking for diacetyl and related diketones at least down to the ten-thousandth of a percent). This is unrelated to ClearStream.

The ClearStream study was a specific, now published, scientific study that used the vapor of premixed eliquid (containing FA flavors) on living cells. The results were intended to address this question: Is vaping a form of significant harm reduction over cigarette smoking? That was a hot debate among medical professionals at the time, and the study provided the first thorough, numeric evidence to support vaping over smoking.

FA and Dr. Farsalinos are adamant that vaping is harm reduction, not elimination. To eliminate potential hazards, quit vaping - that's their basic message, but they're diplomatic about it. FA continues testing for known hazards and Dr Farsalinos continues his research career as a cardiac specialist. They've gone beyond what a flavoring manufacturer and a few interested doctors would be expected to do. Until someone creates, staffs, and funds a dedicated flavor-inhalation medical research lab, we're not going to be vastly more informed. Heck - health hazards of burning tobacco still aren't fully documented, even after decades of dedicated study!

Vapers can minimize known hazards of flavoring by using FA's e-cig and the tested TFA flavors at the minimum that provides enjoyment. But we're still taking unknown/potential risks over not vaping at all. Possible anxiety that produces has to be weighed against personal enjoyment of vaping. We each have our own comfort level, and it can change over time; some are comfortable only after they quit vaping entirely.

Thanks, HIC! Thinking back, the last time I ordered TFA I remember passing on the Malted Milk because of the custard notes. No worries, though, because I have plenty of other recipes on my list to try!

Absolutley, I understand and agree with what you are saying. My interest was peeked by the clearstream testing because the cytotoxic analysis has the potential to expose risks beyond the known inhalation hazards. I'm not fooling myself into thinking any amount of testing would produce risk free vaping but this method seemed to me to be the best attempt at influencing the market toward a larger percentage of risk reduction vs cigarette smoking. It's not hard to make something safer than cigarettes but of course if let's say vaping has 10% of the risk involved with cigarettes it would still be better at 5%. Those numbers are totally out of my butt, but I'm sure you understand what I am getting at.

We will see how they respond to my questions. I'll probably go ahead and open up to all the flavors in their e-cig line. Hopefully the rest of the industry will continue on the path FA has taken.

Has anyone had issues with http://www.ecigexpress.com/? or was today just my lucky day?

Yesterday a friend went to order a bunch of FA flavors for me where the order was $125 of just FA flavors.
The system kept telling him there was a address mismatch on the billing address
I called ECX today to see what can be done.

Customer support guy: "Call the credit card company to see what address you have on file"
Me: funny there hasn't been a problem in the past & even recently ordering from other flavor companies
Customer support guy: Well maybe we use a more secure credit card processor. even better than Amazon
Me: *chuckling under my breath* You're telling me your ecommerce system is more secure than Amazon?
Customer support guy: Well no -- he goes on to babble saying it wasnt the greatest example.

I explained I have been in customer service for 15+ yrs & also develop web site / ecommerce & asked why he was sending me away to trouble shoot instead of him doing the trouble shooting for me.

I said perhaps you might have suggested to take order over the phone?

He said - thats a good idea! can I take your order over the phone?
I laughed! and told him he lost.

Suggestions of who I can order from that has a large selection of FA flavors in one place of 30 or 50ML bottles or larger??

Thank you!

Flavor trivia of the day. If you're hoping FA will make wintergreen some day, just scratch that off your list. In Italy, wintergreen is not a food flavor - it's used in cleanser to clean/scent toilets. Apparently the same is true in Japan. I wonder what they think of Wint-O-Green Lifesavers - drop in the tank for a fresh scent? lol!

Claire, Pure Vapes has 30mls.

originally got samples from PV & was pleased with product & service.
Just got off the phone with PV & will more than likely continue to do biz with them.

I'm not a hard person to do biz with. if you want to take my $$ you usually have a deal.
ECX evidently did not want to make a sale.

Sadly, this isn't the first time I've hear complaints about their customer support. http://www.rtsvapes.com/ also has FlavorArt in bulk.

Question- Is the Red Wine really as bad as the reviews? I'm trying to make a merlot with black cherry, plum and chocolate. I bought Isabella VZSC Gourmet and it's not very deep wine tasting. Although I do wonder if that Oakwood would help. What say you about Red Wine, FA peeps?

Glassgrl - I can give you my opinion, but I'm not a wine drinker. I use red wine for cooking, but I don't drink wine so don't know the proper lingo. It tastes and smells like fairly dark red wine. It's not sweet. Yes, it's a deep flavor, and definitely a boozy one. It isn't bullied by any other flavors you might add. I've used a tiny touch of it often for zabaglione. (FA Custard plus Red Wine makes flawless zabaglione). When I bought mine it was an e-cig flavor, but I it's currently in the kitchen section. It was once listed with a really tiny percent of diacetyl - like 0.0015% - about the lowest number I ever saw FA list (same for the White Wine, by the way). I didn't like the sangria idea I tried, maybe because I don't like the real thing. lol - I try flavors I know I won't like; sometimes I like to vape them anyway.

maybe you could do like the wonka bars and have a golden ticket under the wrapper. the winner gets a trip to vegas. the rest of the labels will have a code that leads you to a website that says click here and then takes you to another page that says click here. just run it on a loop lol.

Works pretty good with Root beer though :)

(referring to wintergreen flavoring)

Right! Wintergreen is the Rodney Dangerfield of minty flavors (though it's not a mint) - it don't get no respect!
If you like Dentyne gum, you like wintergreen (is and always was cinnamon plus wintergreen).
It's the main flavor in root beer.
Teaberry gum is wintergreen.
The 'cool' in peppermint and spearmint candies, mints, toothpaste, and gum is often a bit of wintergreen.
Oh - it's also a main flavor in pink bubble gum!

And how can you beat a flavoring that can be used as Italian toilet cleanser. So versatile, so under-appreciated.

I made my way through the recipe section and I think I am going to give some FA club recipes a go.

HIC's Swiss Bliss, Lemon Meringue Pie and his FA adaption of glassgrl's Bit O'Honey. Also downinTn's cigar blends.

HIC, I was wondering if you had come up with an FA substitute for the Inawera nougat in the Bit O'Honey? I was also thinking about trying a Zero Bar juice which would also require a good nougat. Don't know if anyone has attempted a white chocolate either.

I think I should at least put a week between my last purevapes order for the sake of marital peace but the list is growing fast.
