are you eating the right foods to live a long and healthy life?

Here’s something you might not know: it’s estimated that roughly 40% of Americans are plagued by gut problems to such an extent that they can no longer keep up with routine activities.

All of these people are suffering from digestive issues that aren’t just impairing their normal routines, but stopping them from absorbing sufficient nutrients. That lack of nutrients—both macronutrients like protein, fats, and carbohydrates and micronutrients like fiber, minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants—can contribute to a higher rate of disease and health problems, which in turn shortens their lifespan.

The good news, though, is that fermented foods can improve and even reverse this issue. Fermented foods provide your gut with both beneficial bacteria and the nutrients your existing gut bacteria need. Consuming fermented food will enhance gut function, regulate the balance of gut bacteria, and potentially combat the inflammatory effects of food and gut dysbiosis. As a result, your digestive function will improve, so you’ll absorb more of the nutrients your body needs to live a long, healthy life.

Sounds simple and straightforward, right?

Here are three of the best fermented foods you should add to a diet aimed at greater longevity:

Sauerkraut


Sauerkraut is one of the oldest and best-known of the fermented foods. Consumed for thousands of years in Europe as well as Asia, it’s packed with Vitamins A and C, anti-inflammatory compounds, sulforaphane (a potent anti-cancer compound), and a wide range of minerals.

Some IBS sufferers who eat sauerkraut find their problem worsens, but one Norwegian study found that unpasteurized sauerkraut (with the active bacteria cultures still alive) helped to reduce IBS symptoms significantly.

Another study found that centenarians (people who live past 100) typically eat fermented foods like sauerkraut, and that it helps to maintain healthy immune function, combat inflammation, reduce constipation, prevent gastrointestinal illnesses, and generally improve digestive function—all of which contributes to a longer, healthier lifespan with fewer health problems.

Coconut Kefir


Kefir is a fermented drink typically made using dairy and grains, but coconut kefir is the vegan alternative that replaces dairy with coconut milk. The end-result is amazing for your health, because coconut milk is packed with electrolytes, healthy fats, protein, and carbohydrates. There’s also a lot of potassium, which your body needs to maintain a healthy fluid balance and regulate sodium levels.

But where the fermented drink really shines is as a a prebiotic. Prebiotics are food for your gut bacteria and helps them to flourish. The fiber and sugars in coconut kefir can improve your digestion, reduce autoimmune activity, and kill off the bad bacteria that could cause infections and disease. It’s also easily tolerated even for people with sensitive digestive systems.

Fermented Seaweed


Fermented seaweed is one of the best fermented foods to come out of Japan (along with miso and natto), chiefly because it’s rich in polysaccharides, a form of carbohydrates that feeds your gut bacteria (prebiotic) and provides them the nourishment needed to flourish.

Seaweed is also rich in polyphenols, Omega-3 fatty acids, carotenoids, and other antioxidants that can fight and prevent disease, and the bacteria in the fermented product can help to combat both obesity and high blood lipids. How to Do a VERY Effective Liver-Gallbladder Flush​

Gut health, brain health, heart health, hormonal balance, blood sugar regulation, and a whole lot more all depend on healthy liver and gallbladder function.

Flushing liver stones, gallstones, and bile sludge out of the liver and gallbladder is essential for most people to experience optimal function throughout body.

And Spring is the best time of year to improve liver and gallbladder health with liver / gallbladder flushes.

Almost 15 years ago when I started working with a new health practitioner, she told me to do multiple liver / gallbladder flushes until no more stones came out for two consecutive flushes, and then to do one flush a year after that.

I proceeded to do about one flush per month for 13 or 14 months straight because that's how many flushes it took before I had a couple of flushes that didn't release any stones.

This flush protocol was like no other that I had tried in the past, involving almost a week of softening the stones and preparing the liver and gallbladder to release them.

At this point I should address the warnings that are sometimes given by health practitioners about liver / gallbladder flushes.

According to them, some people doing a liver / gallbladder flush have had a gallstone lodge in the bile duct and had to go to the hospital for surgery.

On the other hand, people have used liver / gallbladder flushes to remove big stones and avoid this kind of surgery, a surgery that is probably inevitable if stones large enough to eventually get stuck aren't flushed out before they cause a crisis.

A great example of this is in the book, The Amazing Liver Gallbladder Flush. The book includes the story of a woman who was scheduled for surgery to remove large stones, did the flush, and was able to cancel the surgery.

I think the difference lies in the fact that not all flushes are created equal.

My guess would be that people who may have landed in the hospital after a liver / gallbladder flush used a protocol that did not include a period of using substances that soften and break up stones so that they could pass easily.

They probably did not also use measures to dilate the bile duct during the flush.

They probably just got up one morning and downed a bunch of olive oil and lemon juice (BTW grapefruit juice is better).

I've also heard some practitioners say that what people think are gallstones being passed are just gobs of the olive oil that they consumed with the flush.

This is an absurd idea that is easily disproven by several things:

  1. A review of the physical properties of olive oil (For example, olive oil cannot turn hard at body temperature inside your body, especially when mixed with bile, a powerful emulsifier of fat.)
  2. The diversity of sizes, shapes, colors, and degrees of buoyancy (or lack of buoyancy) of stones expelled
  3. The simple fact that the results of each flush can be vastly different from flush to flush, even though the exact same protocol is used
And after a suffiicent number of flushes, people typically experience functional improvements like increased ability to digest fats.

In other words, something that was impairing fat digestion was eliminated by the flushes. That would probably be the gallstones that were expelled.

It's not rocket science, and it's also not folklore, as some people would have you believe.

For a more detailed exploration of merits of liver / gallbladder flushes, I recommend reading the book, The Amazing Liver Gallbladder Flush.

The book is great, but I believe that the flush protocol that I learned is superior to the one that is discussed in the book.

The key is intelligently preparing for the flush with a week of stone-softening measures and taking steps to dilate the bile duct before and during the flushing process.

“Exercise is not the problem... it reveals the problem.”

If you’ve ever stopped exercising or moving because it 'caused' a new pain…

Movement and exercise by itself is never bad...

"Is this cancer?"​

The day before, I'd had some weird stabbing pain in my right armpit. When I woke the next morning, I discovered this painful, golf ball-sized lump in my armpit.

Fortunately, I was able to see a doctor a couple of days later who thankfully pointed out that this growing lump wasn't cancer but something called hidradenitis suppurativa (or HS).

A week of antibiotics should do the trick, right?

Yes, but it came back over... and over... and over (even with all the natural stuff I eventually tried).

Each time, getting worse, and eventually, I started to get these internal lesions in the other armpit.

Even though I was in Stage 1, the pain could be pretty intense -- so I can imagine the intense level of pain those living with more advanced HS stages might face.

Because this condition can permanently damage your skin, I thought it was a great time to sit down with Dr. Steven Daveluy to share some research updates on treatment options for HS and how pain can be managed.

Acetyl-L-Carnitine Heals Injured Nerves

Dr. Russell Blaylock, M.D., writes:

Nerve pain is a common problem. Studies have shown that the natural compound acetyl-L-carnitine can stimulate healing of injured nerves and reduce nerve pain.

One way it does this is by triggering the production and release of neurotrophins that promote nerve repair and healing.

Special: 4 Medical Doctors Made a Surprising Discovery

Acetyl-L-carnitine also activates a special type of glutamate receptor (mGluR2) that dampens pain signals.

Interestingly, when stimulated this same glutamate receptor acts as a powerful antidepressant.

Other studies have shown that acetyl-L-carnitine also stimulates the growth of brain cells, which would benefit people suffering from a stroke or other types of brain injury.

Nerve problems often occur with diabetes, and one study found that acetyl-L-carnitine could correct diabetic nerve damage, even though it had no effect on blood sugar.
