I had no idea that America land of the free's national anthem supported slavery and I think indentured servitude as well.

We must get a new one.

Nominations anyone?

I have enough trouble with the Aussie national anthem. With our idiot politicians. ..How can Australia advance? I prefer Waltzing Matilda....."you'll come a waltzing Matilda with me...if you haven't heard that one down load the Mp3 maybe it could be reworked to say Waltzing with Hillary Lol.

How about all of you down under adopt a BeeGees tune for a new anthem: whether they will admit it or not, everybody loves a BeeGees tune

3rd Verse of the national anthem of the USA.

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country, should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave,
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

I like it its catchy......and you can dance to it....its a keeper...besides your interpration of those lines is desputed among historians.
hirelings refer to mercinaries the british hired to fight....just as they hired mercenaries to fight during the revolutionary war....slaves refers to slaves who went aboard british ships and fought against the american navy an interesting note that may have escaped you is that there were slaves fighting against the british on american ships.....it is not as you suggest an opinion on the insitution of slavery merely a description on the battle and who fought in it......tell me when are you going to start burning books,...I may have to bury my copy of The Little Prince becuase in your mind it supports the insitution of monarchies and Oligarchies.also all books who use the gender specific pronouns "he" or "She" as they are microagressions of heterohemogeny.....

The writer of the song WAS pro slavery as well.
I believe historians agree on that.

some quick research was added to your original post it seems.

History of slavery belongs in history not in our national anthem.
Unless of course it celebrated the end of slavery?

Slavery is just wrong and has nothing to do with race.

Yes they do.
And how the south was built on slavery.
How the Emancipation Proclamation only ended slavery in the southern states but not the northern ones.
And that many/most of the revered founding fathers had slaves.

IMHO Race should be left out of all things. Growing up I hate / love all equally. it was not until I started working in my career that I discovered true racism. the kind that is not shown in school but experienced. you could call it reverse racism. no one man or woman can say to another you have no right to say what you want regardless of Skin tone. But that is what happened and it made me painfully aware that race matters to racist.

in my story above we where talking about slavery much like you. I am a great grandchild survivor of the holocaust which can be argued as the worst form of slavery. she responded to this by saying I have no right to talk about slavery cause I was not a person of Color. needless to say from that moment on I saw the world and people for what they are bigoted, Segmented into their little grown up version of high school "clicks" or they only care about what Affects them directly.

History should be remembered for what it was and will always be.

Because a writer was or was not pro anything should not matter to change that is to suggest that we can change how we where born.

Kept it PC.

Again...the verse was not an endorsement of slavery it was a description of a battle..what part of that escapes you?

So did the prophet Mohammed are you suggesting we ban the Koran? nearly every culture on the planet has practised slavery..what do you suggest we have a global cultural cleansing.

like who?

One name that specifically comes to mind is Elias Ball III - he left numerous hand written letters from behind rebel lines he sent back home to his family's South Carolina plantations about his life and those of the slaves he brought with him to tend to his needs during the American Revolution.

They still exist in the National Archives, as do numerous other accounts of rich rebels bringing their human property to serve them while they fought the British.

It was fairly common and I first learned about it in US history during high school.

One of his direct descendants, Edward Ball, described it as such
and there were just hordes of these guys prancing around a battlefield right.....well I googled this Elias Ball, and it appears he fought in the Revolution.....as a Tory, for the British....so he was not an american dandy..he was a loyal british subject dandy.

yeah Roman, Greek,Persian,Muslim,Celts,African,Aztec,Egyptian,Mongolian,..and a myriad of other warriors brought their slaves with them on military campaigns.

The Tory Elias Ball and the slave-holding dandy were uncle and nephew. The Tory Elias had to flee the country after the British were given the boot- there were a NUMEROUS Elias Balls all descended from the first who came to colonies in the 1600s.

The Elias Ball, the dandy prancing with his slaves while serving with rebel troops - is very real, I assure you.

well i only found the elias ball who was a loyal british subject....but im sure your right however I doubt the revolution was won by people prancing around with slaves..considering that the number of americans who owned slaves was extremely small. and you dont win wars prancing around.

Islam still supports slavery........ remember the Save the Girls thing from a few years ago.

Hell the same Africans that sold slave to the US 200 years ago are still doing it today.

Yeah the we're evil because we had slavery in our past....

You do realize slavery has been Illeagal longer in this country than it was legal.

When does America get to stop being punished for what the British Crown started and America stopped.

I just wonder when we can stop being blamed and punished for the sins of our ancestors...

When do freedom loving people in the US get to not be blamed for the ACTIONS of the people doing most of the blaming.

what sins?....humanity has been in a continual evolution toward developing its conciousness...its a journey.....when a child learns to take its first steps do you kick its legs out from under it and berate it for not being able to run?...people that do stuff like that arent interested in the child walking, they are interested in keeping the child from ever standing.
The creation of the republic and the consitution wasnt about human perfection ..it was about human evolution...

It's all Regans fault, Clintons fault, Bush's fault, Obama's fault.
Macdonalds made the coffee too hot, not my fault.
The airline should not have let me charge my mod on the airplane.

The USA seems to have a VERY large not my fault component to our society.
It is not my fault must be yours?
