Then there are those walking around apparently talking to themselves.
Or maybe earbuds and such with a cell phone?

Man that's still outrageous. They about 5 bucks a pack for camels here. That's with tax. My wife smoke pall mall menthol and it's 38 a carton.
Try this. I just put it up.14 seconds.
Not too hard.
Been vaping over 4 years. when I started smoking was costing me ~150/mo.
In those 4 years I have built up at least 30 years worth of hardware and my monthly vaping expendatures were always under 1/2 of what I spent on smoking.
I do not pursue the latest and greatest. I find something I like usually on clearance and buy several of them
I have been 100% DIY for most of the 4 years. Due to allergic? issues with most commercial juice but it is also cheap.
I quickly started using only rebuildables.
For the past 1.5 years my avg monthly vaping expenses have been no more than $20.
I have enough wire for over 20 years, enough cotton for around the same amount of time and enough on hand DIY supplies for more than another year.
I have probably binned around $300 worth of early vape stuff. Cigalikes and ego style stuff.
So now my 1.5 PAD smoking habit would cost me over $200/mo and I spend on average around $20.
And that $20 figures in spread out battery costs.
I think that I have spent around $75 so far this year on vaping stuff and that includes 8 oz of flavoring and 3 mods.
Yeah my vaping is not glamorous but it works for me.

Nah, just look at Wall Street, government. *ahem* My kind o' crazies we know better, we hide in plain sight and nobody believes us. Do they, Ben? Nope.
That movie with Michael Jackson where he’s friends with rodents? Or was that Willard? I haven’t seen either of them.

WV & cigarette costs. So $55.30 per carton on average, add the $12 excise tax = $67.30 & sales tax here is $0.06 per $1, another $4.02 = $71.32 per carton.
Sure I'll bitch to pay $25 on avg for a decent brand/flavor per 1 oz of juice then pay another $12 excise = $37 + $2.22 sales tax = $39.22 per 1 oz of ejuice, weather it has nicotine or not. A 1 oz bottle of juice is $32.10 cheaper than a carton of cigarettes but there again, 1 oz of juice is not 1 carton of cigarettes. 6 days of juice vaping 5 ml per day, 30 ml is gone. A carton of cigarettes would hold me 2 weeks or there about. So that means (2) 1 oz (30 ml) bottles of juice would cost $78.44. That makes the juice more expense than a carton of cigarettes.
Although, I can spend around $42 to $44 plus about $8 for shipping, get a 1 L bottle of nicotine base mixed whatever PG/VG ration I want. Maybe pay $5 for a bottle 30 ml of flavoring to add to base in solution and make up about 8 30 ml bottles for around $50 or less once you consider the doling out you do in DIY.
Check out Gothic Vapor. They have nice juice and there’s a VU coupon VIP for 40% off. You gotta pay by phone, though. They use palm glycerine and plant based PG. Plus you can get Max VG or whatever you want. @$14 for 30mls.

Preach Sister! Before the little signature graphic stopped working, it said that I had saved nearly $22,000 in the eight years I've been vaping.
You have to look at it over the long haul. A lot of those years I was vaping eGo batteries and cartos, then Nautilus Minis and Kabukis with single-battery box mods that cost $30. I might spend $100 a year on gear back then.
Now I have a shit-ton of stuff, but most of it wasn't expensive, I buy stuff on clearance or from the Hardware thread, or clones from China. Have come to the realization over the past month or so that I've reached some sort of saturation point, and don't really want to keep buying a lot more stuff. Now I am at a place where I can be patient and be more selective. I've bought a couple of Detonators and a couple of B2Ks and find that I'm not all that much happier with them than I am with my $18 Cut or my $25 CV squonker.
Since I'm not really interested in selling my stuff, I don't care that a lot of my RDAs are clones.
And even though I've bought plenty, including mixing stuff and wire and tools and all that, I know good and well that I am a long way from $20k.
Smokes were $3.50 a pack when I stopped, and they're $5.50 or so now, depending on the brand. At a pack-and-a-half a day, my habit would be costing me $8.25 a day now, or about $58 a week. I have some vape mail weeks that more than $58 worth of stuff shows up, but it isn't week-after-week-after-week.
And I no longer have chronic bronchitis and six colds a year and frequent sinus headaches and my clothes and car don't stink like cigarette smoke and I have great hobbies and all these wonderful friends and I ask you? Even if I'm not saving money, WHO GIVES A SHIT? I am a happy girl.
American Spirits (the black box). I quit 4 1/2 years ago. Been vaping for 3 years. That nicotine pull was so strong I had to start vaping or I would be smoking again.75 a carton? Holy crap
I know people joke about it, but yea definitely depends if you're a hobbyist or not. Even then it comes down to personal choice. I mean I could go broke buying a car too if I bought a Honda, an Accura, a mercedes, a couple jags, a few pickups, etc.. Self control is key, if you feel you need one of everything it'll put you in the poor house. How many cars does one need? Put in a lot of vaper's terms, well see this is my weekend car, this is my hunting truck, this is the ducati I use to check the mail.. dafuq? The same car will do all that shit. Don't need one for every day of the week.
Of course everyone's typically happy with where they're at. I am for the most part vaping, and I save a shit ton compared to smoking. If I can do it I know anyone can. I live in a state with the cheapest tobacco taxes out of all 50 states. When I quit I was smoking generic branded stuff, $2.40 a pack. Wasn't like NYC or Chicago spending $14 a pack, $2.40 a pack. With taxes my cartons came to like $23.98. And I still save money. I was spending $150-160/mo smoking 2 packs a day.
This has been an exceptionally 'spendy' year vaping because I typically pick up a new mod every 10-12mo, once a year. I just got one earlier this year and then the swell came out and I wanted it. The swell's also the most expensive mod I've bought to date in just over 3yrs vaping, $46 shipped. My last mod was the eclipse, $26 shipped. I save money building my own coils and I do more than the bare minimum. I have multiple gauges of wire, not just one spool of 26ga and wrapping basic coils. My tool kit is modest. My mods aren't high end but they're far from garbage, not like I bought the cheapest piece of shit possible that barely fires in wattage mode. The revenger has multiple options and decent accuracy, so does the eclipse and from reviews so will the swell.
When it comes to atomizers, I have a few different rta's, a few rda's, an rdta. I'm not hurting for choice of stuff to vape on, anything else is just bonus at this point. I've gotten into making my own juice, I like being able to control how pungent the flavor is, how sweet it is or isn't (overly sweet commercial juices) - and it saves me money. I appreciate the stuff I have and I enjoy it, it gives me plenty of options.
I don't need some handcrafted mod hand hewn by monks in the alps using unobtanium and pearls with diamond encrusted 510 connections. Or tanks with hand blown glass melted down from the stained glass of the vatican, blessed by the pope and wicked with fibers made from the pubes of virgin mermaids. And I don't need 3 new setups a month. If that's what people are about and they have the budget, good on them. Enjoy the shit out of it if that's what brings them happiness. But in doing so, they need to set aside the notion that it's costing them more than smoking. Well no shit. lol.

Here is what is funny: I live in a tri-state area, in Iowa bordering both South Dakota and Nebraska. For years I shopped states for whoever had the lowest cig taxes, thus the cheapest prices. Whenever one state raised their taxes, I would switch to the state that was cheapest. For a while I was switching states at least once a year as all 3 states were jumping on that sin tax bandwagon. They all love that revenue.

Sales can be found a lot. The first desire cut I got was the 3avape sale I believe was $13 bucks. I broke that one less than an hour after I got it. So I got an $80 one from element. They ran out of purple at 3avape. Then of course they restocked purple. So I bought another. . It's all in what you wanna spend. Pif my last purple one today. But still have a black project sub ohm one. Find what you like, buy 3. At least that's what JuicyLucy told me a long time ago. LmaoThe rig I'm vaping right now:
VV Pulse BF from overseas, on sale for $8.46
Vapcell 20700 battery $8.50 off eBay
Skin for the Pulse that looks like elephant hide $0.99
Elder Dragon RDA on sale for $14.99
7ml of juice I made myself $0.25
Wire and cotton maybe $0.15
Total about $33.50 plus a few dollars for shipping
Another rig:
Desire Cut 108W regulated squonker on sale overseas $18.25
Vapcell 20700 battery, $8.50 off eBay
Pocket RDA clone from FT $4.80
Same 40 cents for juice, wire, cotton
Total about $31.95 which includes shipping
or
Wotofo Stentorian Ram resin squonker $10.00 at Breazy
Samsung 25R battery $5.99
VA Radius V2 clone from aliexpress $11.50
Same 40 cents blah blah blah
Total $27.90 plus maybe $2 for shipping
If you shop sales and are careful (and lucky) you don't have to spend a lot, unless you just can and want to.
And @MyMagicMist those C4 RDAs are fabulous.
I buy 6 or sometimes 9 or 10 if a good price.Find what you like, buy 3. At least that's what JuicyLucy told me a long time ago. Lmao
Not too hard.

LOL but better than blue blockers and a fanny pack that lots of old pharts do
Those great big wrap around sunglasses things. No idea what a blue blocker is, but I'd be lost without my fanny packs
Define "hardcor vaper". ? Rite now i have four different setups next to me and all being used. I have enough mods that i can use a different one every day of the month and not repeat. More attys than i can recall. Enough nic in the freezer for many years. I never thought myself hardcore. Just a man with as hobby..lol. and many other vu members have a collection that truly make mine look small. For my friend the cost of smoking cost less then vaping.
My friend smokes one pack of cigs a day and his pack cost $0.7 usd (yes I'm not shiting u cuz its china). He bought a smok vape pen and he changes coil every 2 weeks (standard procedure), which is $6 usd each month. E juice is $21 usd a month depending on how much u buy.
In the end smoking saves him $6 each month. Which makes no sense cuz it doesn't really show any major difference at all in $$$ wise.
For me personally it really should cost more to vape then smoke. I don't buy cigarettes everyday now, buying one pack to smoke personally would be like one or two packs each month. I'm a bit of a hardcore vapor so I might go through juice a little faster. Which is why If I were to pick one or the other, I should pick smoking.
I debated on whether I should bring this up again because some folks take great offense at the mere existence of someone like me.
I have saved no money by vaping because I didn't smoke before. Every dime I've spent represents no previous expense.
Truth be told, when I started I had no idea it even had anything directly to do smoking cessation. (OR that there was a hobbyist community) i just thought it was another new thing people did. I did chew Copenhagen years back, but I quit. I always liked nicotine, but I hated the delivery systems. Vaping bridged that gap for me. AND became a cool hobby.
I have since of course seen what it means to so many people and that certainly is a thing I'm fully behind. I understand it's a completely different experience from most of yours, but I can only be honest and tell you how it's been in my case.
No problem from here.I debated on whether I should bring this up again because some folks take great offense at the mere existence of someone like me.

Hey man, look at it this way; for you, vaping is a preventative for using alternative methods of Nicotine delivery you could be partaking of. For that; I say good for you my friend!I debated on whether I should bring this up again because some folks take great offense at the mere existence of someone like me.

Considerate calling it "A Passion" and not a habit.Stop smoking and start vaping they said! Don't buy coils, build your own coils they said! Don't buy juice, make your own they said! You'll save lots of money they said! It'll be fun they said! I just though that after 6 years of vaping, I would ask everyone; when is this point where I start saving money?
