So who took the jump to Windows 10???

XP was a great operating system, and it lasted a long time, it was an industry standard for many years
It's still an industry standard in many places. The only reason a lot of companies are making the switch now is because Microsoft is no longer supporting it. Having problems with XP? Too bad. We understand that your entire infrastructure depends on it and it will cost you hundreds of thousands to switch, but still, get Windows 10. It won't fix them, but maybe we'll help you. *Maybe*

I played Doom II ion 7, I use an app called DOSBOX that lets me do a lot like step the processor down and run the old DOS based games like the way they were intended.

I can't get DoomII to play. I guess Doom95 is its own emulator that won't play in DOS. Maybe I'll find a way. But I did get Tomb Raider 1 playing. Such stunning graphics.

I keep telling myself I should, just to see what it's like, but... *shrugs* ...eh.

I think a jump from 8 to 10 makes sense , it's just a better version, when I had a lot of time to spend on my gaming pc I built I would have stuck with 7... Now that I use it for work and company stuff I switched it to 10 as its a lot simpler and I love the aesthetics (more tablet/phone-esque)

I had the screen flip on me last night. Must be a feature for one of the convertibles.

Only issue I've had so far is with the volume control on my Logitech G510 keyboard were the screen blinks when you adjust the volume, that and A issue with Fallout New Vegas which may or may not be a Win 10 issues

I reverted back to 7. Final straw was the update nag insisting I drop what I'm doing right then to schedule a reboot. Their wording of what time looked good to them really rubbed me the wrong way. Couple that with the fact that this computer doesn't need scheduling, it's a laptop and gets shut down every night.

Now I think I'm stuck in a loop where it's going to reinstall 10 when I do restart.

Basically 10 is spyware, adware, nagware and probably malware.

I got stuck in that loop, but it worked and took me back to where I wanted.

I was so impressed with how smooth the transition was to upgrade, but each day, all day, a new issue would pop up. I gave it up.

I went in and hid the 10 "update" and it stopped threatening to install. Coincidentally being able to hide problem updates is something 10 doesn't allow.

LOL
''The Daily Mail reported another complication with the software.

The update to Windows 10, the report said, “automatically made [a man's] porn collection into a slideshow and used it as a screensaver. And to make matters worse, the malfunction was discovered by his wife, who was greeted by the explicit images first thing in the morning.”

The report said a user posted the story online so others would not repeat the mistake, which reportedly happened when the images were saved into the “My Pictures” folder. It is from that folder the software draws data to build slideshows, the report said.

“I have no idea how to shut that feature off and that computer is staying shut down until I do,” the man wrote, according to the Mail. “Free Windows and a free trip to the doghouse. Thanks Microsoft!”

You don't have to use slideshow as a screen saver.
When going to other devices with my phone it tries to look at every video file on my computer (it's a DVR plus my own videos so there are tons of videos). Talk about scary if allowing someone guest access to wifi. I'd be more worried about unedited raw clips than porn though. Who knows what I said or did that wasn't fit to make the final cut.

BIG DUMMY ,1st rule for saving porn if married, learn how to save it to a jump drive, easier to hide a jump drive then a laptop
Or marry a woman that understands and supports your fascination with porn, or better yet watches it with you.

I'm sticking with 8. I'm the only guy that likes the setup. I have a Windows phone so I was already used to it.

I don't hate 8. That's what I went back to, actually. Boyfriend is sticking with 7. I was coming from...... vista. Really, though, I was used to it and didn't hate it at all.

I was reluctant to give it a whirl, after reading about all the spyware and adware (solitaire now has ads? WTF?!?). After reading this thread, I'm glad I haven't done the downgrade to 10 and I think I'll stick with 8.1.

I got 5 hard drives, I just reboot to a different O/s when I want. Linux, & the rest. Windows started to be good with Millennium Edition. For what it does all computers are incredible. It's just how much you want too learn.

I spent a couple years on NT at a pre IPO (pre crash) start-up (think G Maps a few years earlier-GIS baby) and had no complaints. She was quick and solid. For work.
What little I know about any complaints was the hooks and APIs for gaming required W2K.

I was never a home gamer. Got spoiled with years working the big gov't sims.
Your tax dollars at work. Thank yuh... thank yuh very much. :p
Government. :) Probe this! NT & stuff is baby talk for me. Made a damn fine living at it.

Hey now. We did, and they still do, critical flight research.
Not my fault if work was fun. :D

eta: It's funny as hell when a newb naut goes "Whoa" because the math model allows lighting the mains at touchdown. On the largest motion sim in the world.
Fuel tank? We don't need no stinkin' fuel tank!
UNIX, one of my favorite data bases/os what have you. I could yell Probe this you bucket of bolts, & not get yelled at.

According to the Win10 compatibility wizard, my laptop is completely compatible and even has a touch screen. Um, what?!? My laptop doesn't have any such thing. What sort of sorcery is this that Win10 is going to convert my laptop's display to a touch screen??? smh

I did the email register months back.. and now I have the ugly blue pop up everytime I bring my notebook back from it's sleep. Also a Optimal Resolution notification, being that I sometimes use an external monitor, and enjoy my classic 1024x768. You'd figure if you manually change a setting and save it, it's what the end user wants. Maybe I'll just fix my notifications settings. But that is not as fun as complaining about it.

I can only imagine all the new headaches of end-user friendly data hogs this OS will have.

I may make the jump, when I have time to clean out most of the Microsoft add-on crap I don't need or use. And after I see what other people have to deal with.

I wish I hadn't had trouble. Maybe another day, the bugs it had will be gone. I've gotten used to 8, though. I don't hate it.

I herd when you go back to 8 you lose files?
When I went back to 7 I lost things I had installed or done after the upgrade, but nothing before. I think it's just like any backup.

I just noticed, I didn't lose a Firefox bookmark to MS mail that I didn't have before I had 10. Also when I reinstalled a program it thought parts were still there. So it's revert/backup must not be total.
