HELP TFV8 0.15 coils + Reulaux RX 2/3 + 3 x Samsung 25R

TFV8 with 0.15 coils + Reulaux RX 2/3 + 3 x Samsung 25R

I understand Ohms law well (I'm an avionics engineer by day) and how it applies to mech and regulated mods. For regulated mods the Watts + battery voltage is what counts, however... all the calculations I see say take the set wattage and divide by the total battery level (at lowest value) to get the current draw. So setting my mod at 75W with a tripple battery mod I should see:

75W / 9V = 8.33A

My mod displays the current voltage AND current draw and I'm seeing 75W, 3.46V and a current draw of 20A.

Why is this? I would assume the mod would increase the voltage a little to reduce current draw and reduce my fear of blowing my face off (I know 20A is acceptable for the 25R but I would like to go higher in wattage closer to the coil manufacture's recommended 120W)

Any help would be most appreciated!

You're seeing the volts and amps at the coil that combine to equal the watt setting. Not the same as the volts and amps the batteries supply to equal the watt setting.

Thanks for your reply.

So is the calculation I made more accurate then? there's a big difference and I just don't want to exceed the battery's CDR

Yes. Watt setting divided by total battery voltage equals battery current. Approximately. These chips are usually 95% efficient so you actually supply a little more power to the chip than it outputs.

Thanks, I just don't know why they would use the value at the coil and display that instead of current drawn from the batteries - which I am sure everyone would appreciate!

I have sent them an email asking them to clarify and I'll post their reply here if/when I receive it.

Thanks again guys.
