Modified wire style

Hive wire was big for a few weeks, and then recessed into tfv8 coils to rest for eternity. I did some experimenting and research with making hive wire and found that the majority of companies selling hive wire are only providing people with that looks like a slightly more complicated twisted coil. I figured I could do it better, and came up with my own style of hive, I call it the chainlink.
Normal hive coils look like this:

My hive wire looks like this:

My current build using this wire is a 5 wrap around a 3.4mm bit, coming out to .33 ohms.

This style of hive wire I've made is perfect for flavor and chucks the vapor. This wire has a ton of spacing inside the coil to soak up juice, which gives it it's fantastic flavor(more surface area). Unlike normal hive wire or standard twisted wire, chainlink has very minimum crackling, and little to no spitback. I'm very exited to test more ways of building this wire, maybe nichrome?

That looks quite impressive. I would be very interested to know how you made this coil. And is that kanthal? I wonder how it would do in ss as well.

I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.

It's 26g A-1 kanthal. Essentially, you twist two strands together until they snap, and then cut that in two and start twisting them the opposite direction(just like normal hive wire), but instead of just twisting it until it snaps again, I twisted it until the original twists seem to disappear and it gets the look of just one straight line of chainlink. Most hive wire online is either twisted past this point or less than this point. It's just a good sweet spot. I do the reverse twisting manually, not with a drill so I can see when it reaches the ideal point. It doesn't take super long to reach it.

Side note, this doesn't work well with 30 or 32g. Too damn springy.

Thank you. Don't forget to post this in the Post Your Builds thread. Definitely worth showing on there.

Did you already have this built or did you do it after you saw my post? If you used my style that would make me extremely happy :)

This was from around January when the Griffin RTa was just surfacing and I was convincing people of what it could fit ;)
The Chainlink coil isnt new but it isnt very popular either and I never understood why..hopefully you can convince some others to try it

It definitely needs more love. I didn't know it existed before I found it on my own, and I didn't know it was called the chainlink XD and here I was thinking I came up with a wire style and named it and everything. Whoops. Oh well, it's my new favorite style of wire

I just gotta keep trying til I find something new. The first coil I posted on here I think I'm alone on. I searched everywhere on the web and never found anyone else who had done it.
