So should I only vape on this setup with the juice I started with? Or can I switch over to a different flavor without changing the setup?

Thanks!

Depends on the juice, and my level of give a damn, at the time. If I'm switching from a fruity to a fruity, or a desserty to a desserty, I don't usually bother to rewick. I just vape the tank almost dry and refill with the next flavor. It's all up to you, but the more you change the wick the better you get at it.

So I rewicked my Toptank mini and did the pancake method and it hits flawlessly! Thank you, everybody!

Can anybody please recommend my next build (for either the Toptank mini single coil or my Big Baby dual-coil) and the materials I will need to do it?

Thank you so much! :)

If you like the vape you have.. I would use Steam-engine to model a few builds. I would target the new builds to have close to the same HF, HC and surface area numbers, but using different materials and core sizes and comparing same builds as spaced vs contact coils. From there I would look at builds using significantly more and less power.

Thanks, Honda. I do like my builds the way they are, but I want to try different builds to see how much more flavor I can get. Clouds are important to me but flavor and nicotine come first.

Since I really don't know where to start, could you please help direct me to a good next build? Just something to learn from and hopefully get more flavor and clouds from. Maybe even a pre-done steam engine page?

Sorry again for the newbie questions but I'm interested in learning as much as I can. Once I know the materials I will need for my next build I can go buy them. Hopefully I'll get it all figured out before my wicks/coils start to go bad!

Oh and my Toptank mini build is holding up just fine, puff after puff after puff. No dry hits, no leaking, no spitting, no burnt hits. Yay! :)

How about a Clapton coil? Is that a good one to learn?

In my BB RBA coil.
Fused Clapton -- x2-28g/36 or 38g wrap. KA1 or SS works great. 2.5mm ID

In my toptank mini RBA coil.
Clapton - 28g/36g KA1. 2.5mm ID

Not a problem. I can take pictures if you would like so that you can see exactly how I do them and wick them.
It won't be until tonight though for the BB RBA.

Looking at your pictures I see that I should have left more cotton in my wick. Mine hits just fine but I probably could have wicked a little more flavor with more cotton in my wick.

Thx for the pics!

So --- when it comes to building a Clapton coil.
Here are the things I FAILED in when first trying...

1) Make sure you have a decent drill with a chuck that comes to a point. (Black and Decker 18v works perfect)

-- If using a swivel method --
2) Make sure you have BALL BEARING swivels. Not the lame cheap ass swivels from Walmart that hang and catch constantly.
3) Make sure you have a desk vise and clamp. You have to hold one end of the wire if doing a swivel method.

With that little RBA, if you don't have enough wick -- sometimes -- you will flood out the coil and juice runs out the AFC.

The Art of Vaping --- Watch his videos -- They are awesome.

GrimmGreen -- Fused Clapton Coil Builds --
Thanks again, PhantomOp! I have a nice Dewalt drill ready to go. I also just rebuilt my Toptank mini with a new coil and a lot more cotton in my wick and more fluffing of the cotton and I'm now reading 0.29 ohms with a 24g kanthan wire 5 wraps and no leaking or flooding or dry hits or burnt hits. Way better after rebuilding!

Oh and after ramping up to 60 watts I'm in flavor heaven. I've never had flavor like this! Awesome!! Now I am starting to get what rebuilding is all about. :)

Hope so also -- they aren't cheap.
I was using my Milwaukee drill for a while. It has a concave chuck that is a bitch.

Well first things first I've got to get more wire and more cotton. I have enough cotton for maybe two more new wicks but I just used the last of my wire on the newest build.

I've been getting my wire from Lightning Vapes or FastFog if you have amazon prime. FastFog relabels LV wire from what i've heard / read.

I haven't built any coils beyond singles and twisteds. Got everything I need to clapton, except wrap wire and motivation, lol.

Sounds like you're hooked. My work here is done, lol. :cloud::cloud::cloud:

Keep posting your progress. I'll order me some wrap and see if I can keep up with ya.
I have 26g kanthol and 25g 430ss for cores, so I'll probably go with 34g wrap. I don't think my eyes will let me use anything smaller, lol.
Now do I go with 316, 317, Ni80, or what? Hmm...Decisions. Decisions. :gaah:

I'm watching the thread. Just holler @ me and I can help out if needed -- either of you. I'm by far not a master of coil building, but I do have Clapton coils down really good now, and I think I fumbled through the worst of it to where I was so fucking frustrated at one point that I almost gave up.

I am now working on building out Alien coils ... a new challenge all together.

I went with SS316L. Lightning Vapes / Amazon carries it and it was fair priced.
It also allows for TC mode (wife loves TC) and VW mode (I stick with VW).
I think it tastes cleaner compared to KA or N80

so I'll probably go with 34g wrap
Just a suggestion --- I started with 32g wrap. I then ordered some 36,38,40 wrap after reading some of the other threads from the more experienced coil guys here on the forum. After doing the 36 and up and found it much easier to wrap clapton coils with the finer wire. I don't use any 32g anymore.

I'm leaning 316L from LV. Been following the Post Your Builds thread here for awhile now, slurpin info from the gurus. I'm hoping to get to make my own aliens, eventually. From what I've read, it's harder than it looks.

Thus far, I have used three of these on the list. I have not purchased the Rayon yet. It is on my next Amazon order to try it out.
I personally could not justify purchasing "Cotton Bacon" due to the price of it for the little bit that you get, and I can make a cotton "pad" just a fluffy as that cotton bacon stuff sold specifically for "vaping" ... IMO it is horse :poop: marked up.. again MY OPINION!

I first purchased #3 on the list. Those damn things were tiny compared to the cotton labo #1. Not worth the money spent due to the no. of pads and size. Any they are absolutely no different then #1 in taste, color, etc. However, they are wrapped and sold specific for "vaping". Again, capitalizing on us vapors and marking it up.

I am now using #1 and probably will not purchase #2. And #1 on the list is way big enough to do a very very nice Scottish Roll Wicking Technique.
(turn down the audio if his voice annoys you like it does me)

If your curious about a 521 tab (due to my other bitch fest about Coil Master 521 tabs thread) ...
I've decided that my next 521 tab is going to be from USA Ohm Meters.
I am also considering purchasing a GeekVape 521 Tab Mini, it just costs more than I was willing to spend at the time.
That one is the one I really wanted to purchase right before I gave in and purchased the CM 521 tab mini. I shouldn't have.
However, I know there are a lot of guys on this here forum that DO USE the CM 521 tab and haven't had a single problem with them, and love them. I however have had very bad luck with TWO in a row.

i have 2 of them. no issues and love them both. i did see the geekvape one on sale for like 23 bucks but i like the CM one because it has the alligator clips to use for my hybrid attys and also a voltage tester to test voltage drop on mech mods.

can you tell us more about the coils you made?..Are they a spaced coil..a micro coil..Clapton?...What diameter did you wrap them on?..How many wraps?

A small diameter build may not wick fast enough to keep up with the amount burned as you take a vape...If you take a 3 second hit it might be ok but some take much longer hits and the juice can run out of the wick faster than it can wick back up.

the number of wraps plays a big part in flavor..The more surface area you have the more juice it burn when taking a vape and more juice burned means more flavor in most cases,

Spaced coils are ok but micro or claptons will give better flavor in general as more surface area is present.

Wattage used also is a big part in flavor...Can you take one small vape at 40 watts and get better flavor?...If so then your ohms is too low for the wattage you are wanting to vape at.

Went ahead and ordered some 34 and 36g ss316L from LV. Liked em on FB for 17% off. Came to less than $12 shipped for 250' of each. I know what I'll be doing this weekend, lol.

No worries. You'll get the hang of it. I've heard it said many times that wicking is the hardest to get the hang of. Keep at it. Might think about getting an RDA to ease the learning/ build process.

Exactly right. Wrapping a piece of wire around a drillbit, mounting the coil... that's all easy stuff. Getting the right amount of wick for the diameter of the coil... that's an art.

It should slide easily thru the coil with zero bunching, but it should touch the inside of the coil all the way around. That's the best way to describe it, but learning it... art form, you can only learn it for yourself, and changing the diameter of your coils will change it. So whatever diameter you get really good at wicking... stick with it. ;)
