Right. Let's say some teenagers try vaping and develop a "taste" for nicotine. Why on god's green earth would they switch from vaping, where the consumables are dirt cheap and available in numerous delicious flavors, to smoking, which tastes like dirt and is absurdly expensive in comparison? The very notion that vaping is a gateway to smoking makes no sense.

Vaping may not be a gateway to smoking, inspects, but I think all of us would agree that it absolutely and positively is a gateway to body piercing and tattooes.
For 46 years I smoked cigarettes and never had any desire to have any of my body parts pierced or tattooed. Eighteen months ago I switched to vaping and within days I had an almost overwhelming urge to go and have the image of "Kermit the Frog" tattooed onto my left buttock. Explain that, if vaping isn't a gateway to other things!

JuicyLucy, there is nothing about the SG's position that allows him to lie to taxpayers but it is hard to see how his statements about vaping can possibly be true. This is not the first example of U.S. federal lying. M*rijuana was banned and around 1935 the U.S. Federal Bureau of Narcotics distributed a public service announcement that stated the drug was, "[...] a powerful narcotic in which lurks Murder! Insanity! Death!" If that were true the problem would solve itself in short order as vast hordes of jazz musicans would smoke w**d, go crazy, murder each other, and then drop dead.
The current SG is just following a long tradition of strong but unsupported statements that goes back to at least 1935 and possibly a lot further.
