Just started it a week ago. It wasn't really working out until I found out my sugar free sweetener wasn't carb free... :gaah:

So I switched to erythritol at home, and have a small box of stevia packets in my car for when I get coffee when I'm out and about. I drink a lot of coffee.

Gonna have thick cut peppered bacon and a small salad for dinner in a few minutes. :D

I did keto for some time after getting sick of simple calorie restriction. I lost ~25% of my body weight between the 2 to get to/below my ideal weight. I switched to zero-carb/carnivore WOE 7 months ago and have never felt better but I am not doing it for weight loss. I have been able to quit my allergy meds (loratadine) after 20+ years taking them and my stenosing tenosyvitus symptoms are 95% gone.

I've never done flat out keto, but I do eat as much healthy fats as I want on eating Paleo

Have seriously thought about it, because I have 12 stubborn pounds that will not go away after a year and a half

Give up the artificial sweeteners too IMO. I used to use 6 times the recommended dose of stevia in my coffee (multiple cups per day). It took me a month or so to ween off it but I don't even miss it anymore. Cold brew black coffee is delicious.

Only 12lbs? You're fine just the way you are.

I'm about 250lbs and wear a size 42 waist. I need to get back down to the 200lb range (preferably around 185), and a waist size of 36-38. Now that I got rid of the crappy sweetener, I should be able to get into ketosis. Now I need to start with the calorie counting. With this Keto diet, I'm not nearly as hungry as I was when I was eating carbs. As much as I like to eat, I'm really enjoying this "not hungry all the time" feeling. I ordered this and am hoping it will help with a little variety (all I ate today was roast chicken and bacon):

I really don't use that much sweetener. Even before this, I would only use about 3/4 of a teaspoon of sugar in my coffee. Right now I'm using a level teaspoon of erythritol when I'm home, and about 1/2 packet of stevia when I'm out. For cream I'm using a 50:50 blend of heavy cream and unsweetened almond milk. Got a 5 shot cappuccino today at Starbucks with heavy cream for the froth instead of milk, and added 1/2 packet of stevia. It was surprisingly good.
yeah I've done keto combined with intemitent fasting.
I was thinking about the fasting thing. Maybe Mondays and Fridays. Nothing but coffee, unsweetened almond milk, natural coconut water, and regular water.

It's a lot when you are under 5' tall and over the age of 50

I never thought I could fast, but started doing it when I was out and about and was unable to access the proper food. I learned I can easily skip meals because my last meal was proper. Might feel hungry (surprisingly often no feeling of hunger) but you don't get that nauseous/starving/hangry feeling you get from the blood sugar crash when you eat a lot of carbs

I lost almost 30 pounds last year, without ever rationing, weighing or counting calories when I eat

Get you one of these chef.

amazon.com/Veggetti-Electric-Spiralizer-Veggies-Delicious/dp/B0792QVPBD

We do raw for 4 months out the year and this thing has been amazing for changing the textures and shaking it up. I never had much luck getting into ketosis and when I did it was impossible to stay there for very long. Paleo is awesome and we are about to start trying the all meat thing so I dont lose any weight

IF is easy when you are eating/burning fat. I regularly did 18:6 on keto but since switching to carnivore I just eat when hungry. There are fasting apps for your smart phones. Zero is the iphone app, Vora is the android app I used for a week or two.

welcome to the tribe. I am never going back to eating carbs, plants, fiber, sugar. The adaptation phase can be a bitch (3-4 weeks for me), even if coming from keto, but it is worth it.

I do a lot of cycling. Keto made it difficult to fuel rides over 100 miles, I worry this will do the same but we shall see. Getting a new dehydrator this week so I can get ready to consume animal flesh around the clock.

Summoning my wolf spirit.

I have seen a number of endurance athletes that do very well on keto and carnivore. world carnivore tribe on facebook has a lot of info if you join and do some searching on the home page

It's a lot when you are under 5' tall and over the age of 50

I think it's the "over 50" part that's the real killer; I'm somewhere between 5'6" and 5'7" and only need to be rid of maybe 6-8 lbs, but it just refuses to leave. I think I've just been at my current weight for so long, it's become my new set point.

I never thought I could fast, but started doing it when I was out and about and was unable to access the proper food. I learned I can easily skip meals because my last meal was proper. I frankly can't even begin to imagine this weird "no carbs, massive fats" kind of diet -- with my gallstones, I have to seriously watch my fat intake; even non-cholesterol fats can give me trouble if i eat too much of them, and more than a smidgen of cholesterol makes me sick as a GOAT. Given that, I HAVE TO consume carbs, but I try to minimize the simple type in favor of complex carbs that don't just burn up like rocket fuel -- also a consideration given the rampant diabetes in my family.

But I'll be GODDAMNED if I'll give up sugar, nope, not happening. I try to not go nuts with it, but do without it? Yeah, when I'm dead.

ha, i feel you. I deactivated my personal FB account but still have a work FB account I use for carnivore and work stuff. The info in the WCT FB group can be found on the web outside of FB if you do some fancy googling but I don't have any direct links handy.

2 years ago I was told my gallbladder was full of stones and I needed to have it removed...I decided not to and embarked on alternative treatments...today I can eat anything I want without having any signs of a gallbladder attack....

I think we both did the Chanca Piedra thing, among others

I agree there are much better ways to go about treatment than surgery

But I also agree processed sugar is poison and is one of the toughest things to avoid, surgar and/or corn syrup is the majority or processed foods, even shit like ketchup

sugar is real bad, but I think grains are just as bad...especially with all the GMOs in grains.

If you want to lose weight follow same diet and portions a diabetic is suppose to follow. Its a challenge to stay under 50 carbs per a meal

there is a thought are cravings are not our own but the cravings of the biology in our bodies, the bacterias, the fungui, yeast in our bodies..if we starve them to death those cravings dissapear, becuase the food sources they live on namely sugars is gone they die off and so do our intense cravings.

As the sugar beet has been GMOd, most processed sugar is also GMO; its not just corn and other grains

That's why it's important to only eat meat from grass-fed animals or you are just eating what they eat, and it ain't pretty or healthy

Hmmm... What about 18:6 as a semi permanent thing? Like only eat between noon and 6 PM for maybe 2 weeks? Or should I do it as more a a 2X/week type thing?

it's not bulking up on carbs,,just having a small portion between IF...

I have been making my own energy bars and food bars from a sports nutrition book and based around the results of some sports based blood work and testing and doing this for the last 5 or 6 years. Its a cost savings thing and quality jump over the crap you get from the stores.

Once we move over to meat only, that is going to have to stop. My understanding of the meat only thing is no carb, not low carb. Its similar to Keto in that regard. Just going to have to train my body to fuel differently. Just sucks to have to take the performance dip to get there and lose some of the muscle in the process.

over the hundreds of thousands of years human have evolved on this planet, they have never been solely carnivore..although agriculture is a comparitively recent phenomina and a largley plant based diet is not how we evolved, I can't help but think that an exculively meat diet is not consistent with how we have eaten for the vast majority of our evolution. We humans have always been oppurtunistic feeders, hunting meat and foraging for plants..though we have always sought out meat because it is the most nutritional dense food,we have always taken plant foods when available.

Sure. That is not in dispute at all and I am certain the meat only thing will be something we try for a while and then just go back to our usual diet. We eat pretty clean as it is.

We get all of our beef, goat and lamb through a local farm and co-op and not sure where we get our veggies (since I don't get them), our milk is raw and comes with the milk fat (which is delicious by the way), we get all of our eggs local and I go harvest all of our chickens and take most of our pig from the wild. Almost all of our seafood comes from the same fish monger my dad bought from when I was a kid. It is nice to know where and what your food is and comes from.

Im not trying to cure anything or drop any weight. We just like trying stuff like this.

That's why I NEVER buy sugar that says "pure sugar", only sugar that says "pure CANE sugar." Sugar from beets tastes like someone's cellar.

Who's cellar(s) have you been tasting?

Well, you know that mildewy smell you get from cellars and basements? That's what I taste if I use beet sugar -- which is why I stopped using it about 20 yrs ago. Walmart doesn't even carry cane sugar anymore except for name brands (Domino, Dixie Crystal), so we go to Ingles to get it; there is still a Laura Lynn brand of pure cane sugar. AFAIC, cane sugar is the ONLY sugar worth using.

@CrazyChef v2.0 I am keto, I'd guess from the way I have seen Keto discussed. I was diagnosed as a type 2 pre diabetic. I had been sick for months before being diagnosed. I have to check my blood sugar and take metformin everyday.
I eat MEAT, and veggies. Mostly meat. I don't care about fat contents.
I do NOT eat rice, most bread (only 100%WHOLE wheat) in very limited quanities, potatoes, sugar, or anything with flour.

I am supposed to eat no more than 75 carbs a day, according to the dietician I saw when I was diagnosed. I don't even eat 50 carbs. I lost 20 pounds in 3 months. I'm back to where I was a few years ago, after losing over 50 pounds.
Portion control is key. Being aware of what you are eating is important too. Follow the plate rule.

It's all about commitment and changing your lifestyle for GOOD.

Cane sugar is just less damaging, it is still very, very unhealthy, even in small quantities

Worth it to most people, despite the well documented long-term harm it does to just about all areas of human anatomy

I have been low carbing it off and on for 20 years. Started with Atkins Diet back in 1998 or so. What I have determined for myself is that anything with sugar of ANY KIND, no matter the source makes me feel absolutely horrible after consuming too much. I try to stick to under 50g of carbs a day.

Yeah, I know that too much of it is deadly, which is why I've been slowly and steadily reducing it for *over* 30 yrs. But artificial sweeteners are worse; they starve the good flora in the gut and allow the bad flora to run rampant, and that is NOT a good thing... so I'll stick with cane sugar. We recently started buying "raw" cane sugar; it's not white, but golden, and has some "flecks" in it of the actual cane plants; it's crystalline, but the crystals are much larger than "refined" sugar of ANY variety.

It's just like with vaping vs. smoking -- no, inhaling anything other than "clear air" is not too great for the body... but tell me, where do you find "clear air" these days? And it's a question of harm reduction, and of the fact that I really don't WANT to keep living, if I can't have sugar at all -- same as for vaping; it's a damn sight better for my lungs and whole body than smoking!

Y'all can live on kale and spring water if you really wanna, but I really don't.

And also... I hear a lot of this garbage about how "sugar is poison." Well y'know, so is alcohol... how many of y'all are prepared to do completely without that? I know some of you don't drink, or drink very little, so I'm really not talking to y'all... but to all those who spout this "sugar is poison" crap and then guzzle beer, wine, and/or hard liquor like it's goddamn manna from heaven. It's a solvent. It's toxic. That's why you "feel funny" when you drink it... just like most of the "buzz" from smoking isn't nicotine, but carbon monoxide.
