I use almost everytime a Noisy Cricket 2, but with the mod from a friend we use the coils at minimum 90 watt.

What’s you preferred wire gauge size for braiding lab? Do you use different gauges for different braid types as well?

Normaly i use ni80 30awg, but for 7 loops i use 32 or 34 awg.

Love the braids myself, just wondering what’s the best braid type to start with, and where do new builders go from there to progress through the different types?

Also are some braids more suited to certain wattage ranges?

Lovely coils mate thanks for posting

Just gonna plonk this up for anyone coming in seeing as though we are getting close to closing and especially as we’re are page 8 now!! this Challenge is aimed at helping new builders, sharing information about how you like to vape, answering questions etc is the name of the game and what we are seeking from everyone...best place to start is think back to the type of information you wanted to know when you started building.

Here’s the intro to give some ideas...

The “You Watt” Challenge

One of the hardest parts about being a new coil builder is understanding what coils to use and why, so in this month’s challenge we ask the community to share their favourite builds in any of the following wattage ranges.

5-20 W
20-30 W
40-50 W
60-70W
80-90W
100-110W
110 -120W
120W + (state your preferred wattage – it’s a bit of an animal)

As to the “why” .....In addition we ask you to describe the conditions you like to vape. This helps budding builders target a list of builds to go for...i.e.
  • Do you like mouth to lung or direct lung (airy to very restricted),
  • 810 or 510 drip tip or something else (chuff it like a tail pipe baby!),
  • Type of atomiser you like the build on,
  • Deep draw or tootle puff,
  • Metals you like using,
  • Build compositions (gauges etc),
  • Like an instant or slower ramp up,
  • Flavour chaser or cloud chaser,
  • Type of mod you use the build for.
….well you get the picture; the more the merrier.

Challenge Specific Rules and Restrictions

  1. Please state the range(s) you use in your post.
  2. Doesn’t matter the type of mod you like using for this one, although to help new builders we stress safety first with building always (the challenge team will tag unsafe advice submissions ...super sub ohm etc.)
  3. You don’t need to show your coil builds if you don’t want to, you can just list out what you like using...(although some may find it easier to understand what you mean with pics)
  4. Do you have a few different builds you like?, or use in different ranges list them all out.
  5. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask others.
  6. Pictures of your builds are welcome of course - it doesn’t matter how photo worthy the coils are, no judgement will be made.
  7. We ask that people respect other members forms of vaping – it doesn’t matter whether you like a cool 8w vape or a magma searing 200W all contributions are welcome.
  8. Unfriendly “bashing” will be tagged and disqualified from the challenge.
  9. VU Challenge Team members have chosen to excuse themselves from all prizes, however are free to contribute.
  10. Global Forum rules apply at all times (http://vapingunderground.com/threads/rules-of-the-forum.255/).
  11. Challenge Global Rules apply at all times (http://vapingunderground.com/threads/global-challenge-rules.433025/)

In my opinion 5 loop braids are the easiest to begin, but 4 loops give me better flavour. For the Pharaoh RTA which is using my wife i make 4 loop braids from ni80 34 awg 4mm and 6 wraps which have a really good flavour at 45 watt.

So I finally got my hands on some SS316L wire, the guy at the vape shop suggested 24ga, so I got it, built a 12 wrap coil dual post, pushed into temp mode, all going well, some good vape then all of a sudden it kicks into protect mode, after fiddling a little more, it starts kicking back to power mode.
So a little frustrated, I get onto google and search a little, I find that it's something to do with the Wismec model, now I can't vape.
I find the TCR mode, hmm taste isn't the same, what should I do now, maybe try rebuilding or what, any tips.

Play with the tcr numbers. A pita but on some mods it works. You might consider downloading arctic fox firmware, bit of a learning curve but well loved by tc users.

You can always ditch TC and use it in power mode and then just enjoy your day and your coils.

That's what I do with my dnas that don't have the color upgrade. Do love replay and bypassing tc entirely on the dnac mods.

What was the resistance of the coil?

TCR what number have you got it on?

I've found TCR for SS works great between 88 and 92. Think I have mine on 92 though for my Therion and Topside

Sent from my LM-Q610(FGN) using Tapatalk

Yeah normal range right there but I’m sure wismec has to have it a little higher didn’t they?, only saying that as some mods I’ve had to go as high as 140 to get it to work ...waaaay off piste

I have some SS316L store bought fused claptons I run 55W 450F TC, they ohm at 0.38

I have some SS304 clapton I get to ohm at 0.23 I run at 38W 400F TCR .00105
Please expand on that for the new builders. What atty, af, space or contact, etc.

I'm in the experimental stage, mostly I like close spaced coils, but i'm still experimenting. To run in TC modes I use Geekvape Legend, Smoant Battlestar, or any of my Joyetech Regulated MODs, I run with the AF mostly closed. When I run them in VW mode on my unregulated Bravo squonker, I run the AF wide open :)

Does anyone have any vertical coil builds? I was going through some stuff today I havent used in a while and found a few RDA's that take vertical builds.
I can't help with vertical builds. I haven't done one since I tried on a Origen almost 4 years ago. I seem to remember sentencing the designer to hell forever building that thing.:giggle:

Only 6 days left in this challenge folks! There are 9 prizes waiting to be won! You don't need to be a coil porn god to win either. We want to hear about the whole spectrum of vape builds and pictures are not required!

Just got in the VLS, used to use vertical coils quite a bit. Been a while for me as well. Not sure why I stopped, always enjoyed the vape.

I can't remember which rda although I think it was a velocity that I would put dual verticals in. The two post design made it tons easier

I have done some vertical building of sorts to rebuild factory coils. I started doing it in a UWELL Crown V1. More recently I have used the same technique to rebuild Joyetech ProCore C1 coils.
28g Ni 6 wraps 3mm ID I think was the specs, using this technique you could get a TC coil that would be usable 1-2 weeks. :)
This is of course an entirely different thing than building vertical for an RDA RTA.

I wasnt aware there were RDAs built specifically for vertical builds. I havent got any attys geared for them, but I am kinda experimenting with them for postless builds. Post builds are a pain in the ass, but possible without the slouching/sagging that I see in traditional builds.

Not understanding what you mean by slouchy/sagging.

View attachment 124567 This is my definition of slouchy/saggy coil. I had a prototype made to have even legs, eliminating where one leg is longer than the other. Still a work in progress.

How is that vertical coil build in that Kayfun going to behave? Seems a bit like a setup for flooding (to me anyways). I have never seen anyone build a Kayfun vertically.

This was a random pic I found in a google search for chimney coils. I have no clue how this setup does. The few times I tried I ended up crushin the coil and giving up lol.

I really like 20g kanthal, I refused to try anything lower than 24 because "24 is too hot"

It was hot because the resistance was too high, and took too long to heat up - 0.1 - 0.12 ohm dual, 20g kanthal, is just warm :D Comparable to the multicore builds I've been vaping for a year or so, heat-wise

Just recently bought the VLS but haven’t put a build in it yet. Been thinking about picking one up since I read KP's review.

VLS is a build tinkers dream ...verticals ...horizontals position coils where you like, easy access underneath to pull cotton through for verticles, ...dump juice in for dripping ....and better flavour than the wasp IMO
:vino:

For a first RDA and a new builder this deck offers a lot of options

Another day another build, pictorial essay

uIEF52D.jpg

26g/30g SS430 Clapton
5 Wraps on a 25mm jig
0.33 ohm, 55W ...
TCR 138 for SS430, running at a hot 450F and 55W

40-50 W
In this range this time :)
60-70W

As to the “why” .....In addition we ask you to describe the conditions you like to vape. This helps budding builders target a list of builds to go for...i.e.

Do you like mouth to lung or direct lung (airy to very restricted),
DTL not mtl, sorry DTL
810 or 510 drip tip or something else (chuff it like a tail pipe baby!),
Seems all my RDAs are 810, and my RTA is an 810
Type of atomiser you like the build on,
I have a Ghoul and a Recurve RDA and a Revolver RTA
Deep draw or tootle puff,
Deep Draw
Metals you like using,
For now either 430SS or 316LSS
Build compositions (gauges etc),
The clapton wire im playing with now I got on clearance for a couple of bucks 28g/30g Clapton
Like an instant or slower ramp up,
Quicker the better :)
Flavour chaser or cloud chaser,
I'm all about the flavor
Type of mod you use the build for.
I switch around but prefer TC Regulated MODs, I've been known to use an unregulated squonker but I like to be more in control.

3x 28g kanthal braided. Dual coil setup with 4 wraps, 0.10 ohms at 90 watts. medium lung hits, 810 drip tip on my Aequitas from Hellvape and Ambitionz Vaper. I like a mix of clouds with flavor so this build gives me just that. I usually like to use Stainless Steel 316L, however this is Kanthal A1. I also like Nichrome 80. I tend to like a faster ramp up on my builds but sometimes I have to sacrifice something with a different type build. I think I am getting to the end of experimenting with different builds as I have found a couple that I really like (Fused Clapton, Braided, Clapton). I also like to use my regulated mods, however I play with my mechanicals as well. I like the mech mods but I think I just like the regulated ones a bit better.

I have really been eyeballin another cheap RX300. Obviously get the update for the unneccesary 400 watts but really want the battery life. Now I already BSed 350 on one of the CBK V12 coils and that hit only last 1.7 seconds long before it burns me up.

If I wanted to for the hell of it, what would be a good coil setup to handle the full 400 watts of power?
