I prefer a range of 40-50W, mistakely had my vape in my pocket once unlocked and it revved all the way to 300W, this was painful when I pulled it out and vaped.
I do prefer the direct lung option.
I love the 810 drip tips, I do have a 510 drip tip on one of my other mods but the diameter is rubbish.
My build is on the Creed tank and the Smok RDA (baby version)
I prefer a deep draw unless my mod is heating up.
Kanthal for now till I find other wire in my country. My gauges are standard option seeing as I don't have a lot of choice.
I like a slower ramp up, that way I can take deeper hits.
I wish I could have clouds with flavour, there are different types of moments when I want different hits.
I'm running a wismec box RX gen 3.
Tell us a bit more about your builds please. Resistance, number of wraps, spaced or contact, dual or single coil, etc .

Jeez, just put these two coils that came with my Rimfire RTA on my FreeMax Pro RBA and wow! No idea what they are but they sure got shiny on dry burn. 80 watts on these coils beat out those staggered fused claptons on my Rim. May have to guess they are framed staples, SS or Nichrome. Thank goodness they on my Siegeli 213, they are runnin right down to the .12View attachment 123779
Hard to be sure cause it's a smidge blurry. But When I zoom in they look like staggered frames to me. Which is strange cause I don't think I've ever heard of those coming as a "free set" with an atty. And if you pulse hard enough to glow and they don't change color then they are not SS. Nichrome can stay silver for a bit while pulsing, depending on the wattage your pushing through it.

@WPMac sorry for pic quality, but phone refuses to focus on close up shots. I forgot exactly what wattage but I did pulse a bit (knowing me) 60-80. When I did it turned a dark blue. As for the style, I dont know my terms perfectly, so leave me alone ya bully lol. Looks like a ribbon maybe round core, with extremely thin wire wrapped around it.

Taste is kinda metalic I guess. Like lickin a penny while vapin. Definately not kanthal. But yeah I agree, kinda odd to have a flashy quality coil set with a new atty, but there it is. Then again, never bought a juice that came with coils (Alien Ni80 x2), cotton, key fob, microfiber rag, stickers, and 2 empty 30mil bottles (checkout @banger_ejuice/ @marinavape) in a cheap $25 box.

Wicking would be my first guess, however some tanks have a pressure affect on them as you close the top cap it wants to equalise inside the chamber

can try

Something called burping the tank

Checking wicking is doing its job

Closing the AFC before you take top cap off (leave it shut until it’s back on

Try not filling up right to the brim

Make sure top cap is secure and not lose to let air in (decent orings)

Don’t leave top cap off for too long

For me it’s normally one of these things
Thanks, will definitely try this next time I fill up.

My resistance hits between 0.9 - 1 ohm, I have a dual post so I range between 0.39 - 0.5 ohms.
I try to go 6 wraps but I went a little off on this one now that I'm looking at it with 7 wraps on one side and 6 on the other o_O
I keep my wraps as close as possible, I had a smok RDA when I was first building and still been a noob, I didn't do a proper wrap, don't do it, just don't do it, it was the worst vape hits I had and totally put me of making my own builds, I had to eventually take the time and patience to sit and learn how to do a proper wrap, the wicking, strumming, I'm finally at the point of building a decent enough coil apart from adding an extra wrap.:gaah:

Now if only I could find different wire in my country that isn't to far so I can properly move over to temp mode, I know I shouldn't be using kanthal on temp mode, I have tried it a few times and then my mod realises I don't have the correct wire and kicks me back to power mode.

Here's a pic of my build.Build.jpg

Rain day off work. Will be building some and posting here. Out of my fused claptons. Both SS and n80. Either 26 or 28 with some 36wrap. May do some 40s as well.

Coils on the left are 2x28 n80/36n80. I use these on my dual rdas..17ohms for the pair. Coils on the right are 2x26ss/36ss..23ohms for a single..11 ohms in dual rda I use these as single most times unless using a dual batteries parallel mod.

New question: Have you found your ideal, go-to build, or do you still wander around searching for it?
My personal "go to" coils are 3x28/38 alien coils. Sometimes KA1, sometimes N80, sometimes SS316L, sometimes a mix of wire types.

But, as much fun as these fancier build are to make, vape, and share pics of, there's nothing wrong with the basics. The first build I ever tried way back when that "wowed" me, was a simple round wire parallel build. I don't recall the specifics of the build, but I'm sure this set I just made is close enough. The vape quality and vapor production is phenomenal, and easy enough to make that even beginners can do this with just the slightest amount of practice.

These are 25g KA1 coils, 0.21Ω for the dual coil installation, and vape fantastic at 55 watts. Put them in the Druga RDA on the Cartel Revenant 160 mod.

When I first started building I was on the parallel trip too. 26k parallel 9 wrap. Got me to about .7.. Then I learned mechs run better at lower ohms. But I was stuck on higher ohm better flavor. Started following the post your builds section and finally got a drill at the beginning of this year, maybe the end of last year. Started fused clapton from there.

Couldn’t agree more, when I went from basic builds, my next stop was parallels...I had two variations I liked to use and made me feel like I was wearing my big boy pants, lol. If I used 26ga I’d use 2 strand with 8-9 wraps:
101414c824613a783223900e5ce41df4.jpg

And if I was using 28ga I’d use 3 strands wrapped 7 times:
7238a7277e3c7bd5a5849499d322722d.jpg

This was when I was still using B&M shops and they would make fun of those ridiculously long coils until I hit the fire button...after everyone picked their jaws up off the floor, they’d start asking for pointers on how to do their own.
There’s nothing at all wrong with going with the KISS method of coil building (and for DIY Juice that I’ve dipped a toe in to try out)

This is my go to, mentioned in an earlier post. 22g NI80. Quite possibly the easiest coil on the planet to build and parties like a mad crazy hooker.
Go-To-Coil.jpg

With batteries being so strong now, 22g is perfect (IMO). I like 22g NI80 so much, buy it by the pound.

New question: Have you found your ideal, go-to build, or do you still wander around searching for it?
there are too many variables for me to ever think i found the best build. a lot of the time i will find what i can call my 'current favorite', but i usually go back to experimenting with new builds, rather than assuming that my current favorite is actually 'the best'. i cant understand the mentality of 'i only vape at x watts' or 'i only vape x build' or whatever. some people use the same setup and juice for years  there are infinite coil builds and flavor combinations

Yep sure did! I think this is a growing pain for me. When I figure out how I did this I will have learned something lol
I have never understood how people melt their peeks. I do 5+ sec 135w dry fires on .1-.12 ohm single coils regularly (trying to get glow shots). I also chain vape dual coils to the point of not being able to touch it with my finger and keep it that hot for 15 - 20 mins easy. I've never melted an insulator before.

Just had this happen while pulsin to clean my coils. Freemax Pro RBA FAILURE! Still usable, but I dont wanna risk vapin on non conductive material. Yep, time to throw that one out and buy another RBA at the shop tomorrow.

When using coils that have super fine wrap, its a good plan to double/triple check and make sure no little scragglier pieces are lurking around. Its easy to miss and a tiny little shred of 40g is enough to wreck havoc.

I was doin short bursts at 80 watts at .14 ohms. I imagine this may have been a factory issue. Or as @jwill mentioned, there may have been a fine wire strand that caused it to do that. I dunno.

Mixed a juice I knew should shine for me but wasn't in a Nano with a tri core fc build. Tried it out on a parallel fc/single wire and it's shining now. When I first started building it took awhile for me to get how different builds could make such a difference from juice to juice in the same atty.

Yup. Coils are like the speakers in a stereo system. Some work well for rock music, while others are more suited to classical music. Still others may be better for jazz. Ultimately, the better the coil(s) quality, the better "music" quality of your juice.

Here's my MTL vape right now, around 25 watts with a full battery - I like short-ish mtl puffs, 2 or 3 puffs per breath (that's how I used to smoke "full flavor" cigs, yuck), mainly want no ramp time but also no overhotness

View attachment 122738

This is kinda over-the top, 0.2mm ribbon sandwiched between 2x32g kanthal, 46g alien wrap just for fun (does keep coil moist so as to lengthen coil life, though)

0.51 ohms

I like unregulated (but not mechanical) mods the best, so I try to build with a working voltage of 3.2 in mind

I like very tight air in MTL, this is the Etna RDA and I have the biggest air insert option in it because this coil heats very quickly, but there is still enough air resistance for me to enjoy the vape
Finally got my ETNA hooked up and runnin. Because of the small size I went out of my way to get a iStick Pico for this thing. I knew it was gonna be a MTL RDA but jeez this thing has no give for air. I am literally gettin red in the face for a damn lung hit. But, at least now I know MTL is not my style and once I get a few things outta the way I may hand this off to someone interested. I just cant do MTL.... so sad lol.15419578595261924516891.jpg

I like different builds for different RDA's right now I'm using SS fused claptons 2x 24 316L/32 316L 5 wraps dual coil at 0.08 ohms. I take medium-long draws direct lung hits. I like this one at 120 watts it gets warm but no too hot imo. I just got my daedalus so I'm trying new builds frequently but this is a good one. I wrap these around 3.5 coil jig. And I only use this build in my Aequitas rda on a drag mod.

It took me a little to get used to it, however I love it now! I am about to start trying aliens next, but I might need to practice that one

Sweet! they can take a little while to get the hang of, some take to them really quickly, others takes a little while....either way it’s a big stepping stone and gives you access to a lot of the complex builds.

We have an official aliens thread in the build section, loads of tips in there if you haven’t seen it already, or just ask away in here :) can see a few resident builders throughout the challenge I’m sure they be happy to help

I may be missing something here but I have never pulsed a build above 35w even with a massive dual build.

I'm still looking for that sweet spot, need to find proper coils, I see SS316 in my country at the hardware store, it's called welding flux though so quite unsure if this is an actual substitute I can use for building them coils, I see some nice pics of the dual wraps, really curious to know if I can do that with twisted kanthal.

Agree with the huge coils sometimes they need a bit more oomph to dry burn

most smaller coils are good to go pulsing lower wattage as Letitia said @OmagaWright especially if you want the colours to comes out...I start at around 20W and work up if needed

Now I gotta worry about color too? I thought color was just for show. Guess that goes to show the lack of trainin from the local shop versus findin ALL the info online lol.

Can I fill out an application for a "Learners Permit" badge or something? I feel the knowledge gap keeps gettin bigger and bigger and I feel it needed to have something out there that tells people ahead of time "I'm an idiot" lol.

Not an idiot at all. We all started where you're at now. Color is pretty but not a necessity. When you pulse your coils a dull glow is all you need to judge for hot spots. There is no reason to glow white hot or even bright red/orange.

Thank you, that was just the answer I was lookin for. I always thought pulsin had to be done glowin hot. Glowin hot should be left to dry burnin/cleanin coils. Got it!
I don’t glow hot for dry burning either. If I have been particularly lazy I dry burn normally, give the coil a light brush and dry burn again. If I have been very lazy I may give the coil a rinse under the tap. It's okay to clean them in a UC as well.
