Questions about coils and flavor

I've started to buy tanks for building, but I am new to this. So from what I've seen in the flavor chasers corner SS316L Claptons seem to be the crown favorite, but wasn't sure if there were other options with just as much flavor. There were many variations of the claptons and then there's the alien, but I have no experience with these. Any other tips in regards to flavor would be much appreciated.

Ontop of the coil recommendations, are there any kits aside from the Coil Master V3 you would recommend, or anything I should buy ontop of that?

yep I use parallel 26 ga SS316l 3mm .35 ohm coils in my Merlins and Wasp Nanos.
this is parallel coils not to be confused with dual coils.
Same coil in both. Use the wasps on unregulated Pico Squeeze and the Merlins on a regulated mod at around 23-25 W.

I use coils made by members here that sell them. They can build to your liking and the atty.
I also use [mostly aliens from] https://www.advancedvapesupply.com/ They have a standing 20% code - AVS . Sometimes a diff code for a little better.

I think it's a good idea to use premade coils while you learn how to make them yourself - if your gonna. I don't make them because I'm one that wants something more than simple wire, and I don't build exotic wire. So I use premade alien or fralien or buy premade sticks and coil them on a jig.

This kit doesn’t have anything you don’t need. Like that cotton and probably wire V3 has. Maybe you’ll like small scissors. I didn’t like the small V3 ones so got better(@The Cromwell suggestion), not these but – same thing only different. Westcott-Titanium-Non-Stick-Scissors-Pointed

If you have a mod that accurately reads resistance(Ω), then you're all set with that kit, to get started.
Look into getting a good ohm meter though. Might find a good deal on one of the better Coil Master 521 variants or could get GeekVape Tab Pro .

I haven't heard of parallels before. Only single and dual, match batteries according to that, and that people prefer one or the other. Not sure what the differences are between them all however. Yup, read the recommendations for the Wasp Nanos in the best RDAs. Planned on getting one eventually once I'm done with MTLs and reading into coils.

Son of a bitch. It's like I must try all types of coils per atty. I remember that NOT from a few members, that's when I decide to come to this part of the forum.

Thanks for that, haven't begun to look for vendors for these types of materials. I appreciate the advice on those, I'll be sure to get one of the better ohm readers. Is there a place to view members coils/contact them about it? Figured I'd go that way while I learn.

I just make a loop and twist the ends together and put in 1 coilmaster tool hole.
Wind and then twist the other end together when done wrapping.

The Tab 521 Mini (and I think there's a 521 Mini V2) that comes in the V3 kit is good, if you want to get that kit instead. You can see some member builds here: Post your builds I'd look around at the most recent few pages, maybe look for links in their sig. Or some may see this thread and speak up.

I have seen you post this info several times now. I put that build in my Wasp, taking advantage of your experience. It is the best build I have used in that rda. It lives on my Inbox and is vaped daily at 37.5 watts. I doubt it could get better than it is. My favorite vape set-up. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with the community

Yep that is about the wattage I vape that build in my wasp on an unreg Pico Squeeze.
Nice vape, flavorful and fairly dense clouds.

Good question, I think.

Some issues I try to bear in mind regarding element choices, premade or DIY.

Generally…more vapor, more flavor.

Effective vaporization is what should yield more vapor, limited to the available space and airflow for the atomizing element.

Any wire not yielding heat to wetted wick is either heating adjacent turns…or the airstream. The greater the aspect ratio (think tire height) the more heat is venting to the latter or post-vaporization heating (diffusion of what's already vaporized); the less, proportionately being applied to direct vaporization.

For any given amount of power applied and flow (wicking, Ø) of a coil or vaporizing element, the ratio of wetted surface to power applied determines the vaporization efficiency.

More vapor, more flavor. Consider how above affect flavor density in the vapor.

Stands to reason I think. And remember what we do most resembles cooking.

Just to point out JBT, the parallels above are Kanthal wire. Half the resistance of standard single wire. Likely to be very, very hot with SS. Also they are based on a tensioned microcoil, a method of winding which ensures uniform oxidation of this type of wire. I've written quite a bit about it on this and other forums. Need help, give a shout.

It's not that Kanthal has a particularly lower resistance. It's forte is that it is significantly stable in resistance; and, particularly so with the methods I introduced here on VU and on the e-cigarette-forum.

A search on my username and the terms tension(ed), strain, pin vise here should get you started.

Strain is about subtly forcing an internal reordering of the structure of the wire as the wind is shaped…as opposed to "bending" or the application of external force to "form" the wind.

Tensioned coils behave like a spring with embedded rigidity which lends to their durability. Pulsing them in this more precise state further reinforces the orientation at a slight loss of rigidity but accelerating oxidation which makes them a more effective circuit as a contact coil by insulating touching turns from each other electrically. Done right they don't fire "inside out"; rather, more uniformly end-to-end. This optimizes the thermal output of the turns (the working part of the element) restricting thermal loss by any segment of the wind from overheating. The objective being to put as much and consistent heat on every part of the wetted surface of the wire to produce a consistent output as close as possible to the spec wire resistance.

Predictable, repeatable performance.

can you explain HOW to tension a coil? does it happen just by making the coil? or is it from pulling one of the legs with pliers?

also, can you speak to Nichrome's resistance stability? do you have any experience in using ni80/90/etc what are your general thoughts on it?

I'm currently using n80 in a couple of my atties and the resistance is quite stable. Now it is lower resistance than ka1, but just as stable. In my opinion it has a cleaner flavor too. Been really enjoying it myself. Not a bad choice to go with.

I'm currently using n80 in a couple of my atties and the resistance is quite stable. Now it is lower resistance than ka1, but just as stable. In my opinion it has a cleaner flavor too. Been really enjoying it myself. Not a bad choice to go with.

I'm not sure where he got the wire. These were made by @Shredtravolta. He made these so I could try some more exotic coils and have really enjoyed the experience. I tagged him so that perhaps he can pipe in and he can tell you where he gets his wire. Although I hear that Temco has good n80 wire from other people. I plan on getting n80 next time I order wire myself. Been really enjoying it.

I really don't think that there is another wire company that is comparable. If there is then I just don't know about it and that is possible, but one thing I know for sure is if your wire is not smelted in Sweden and then milled in the USA then point blank it is not the highest quality wire and the purist alloys available. That's why I spend the extra money on Kidney Puncher wire because I don't want any misunderstandings and I want my own vape to be spectacular just as I was the people who buy my coil's vapes to be spectacular.

I’ve actually heard that Jacob’s is good but I have never deviated from KP because I have always received excellent results. It would be a privilege to build for you! Please DM me and we can work out the particulars .
