mirepoix ( pronounced mere-pwuah) is simply onions, carrots and celery (for the most part) slow cooked on low-ish heat in butter or oil and used as a base component in soups or stews. Simple step that adds depth of flavor. If you look it up there is a rabbit hole you can fall into reading about mirepoix, sofritos and such. Lots of tips and tricks.
And that is a prime example of what a derp I am. I read that kinda stuff for “fun”.

sounds expensive, but i hate the stuff. due to my diet i eat a lot of lebanese cucumber, that lately was $9.45 kilo!!
My wife has 3 rhubarb plants. Had 5 but don’t think they tolerate Herky pee very well. But 3 plants put out quite a bit over the summer. We have lots in the freezer. Basically only use it for pie and don’t make that many. She gives a lot of it to family.

No stabbing….at least none are planned.
last night was less nerve racking than normal. I fully attribute that to the fact that my dumbass father in law gave everybody the gift of him being in Canada for the holidays. I think I’m going to push for that to be a tradition going forward.
I’ve got a 11 pound bone in prime rib going in the oven later today.

I’m sure you’re having a good time with the kiddos. I have lots of great memories of hanging with my grandparents. We never did anything adventurous.
we were just together and those memories are very good memories.
Their parents are pastors, so we’ve been watching them on the weekends since they were 1 or so. Oldest is 15 and her brother is 4-1/2.
