UD Goblin RTA / Dripping Performance in a Tank

upload_2015-2-13_22-25-26.jpegThe UD Goblin RTA is becoming exclusively and exponentially popular by drippers. Why? The basically simple, three piece design, the largest juice channels among it's RTA cousins, 3mm x 6mm dual cyclops adjustable airflow and it's Plume Veil style rebuildable deck. Don't just take my word for it. Check out these two of several reviews on youtube for more details:

For those of you who have the Goblin and might be experiencing a bit of leaking, keep these three things in mind:

1. The Goblin performs best at 0.6 ohms or below.
2. Use a little more wick than usual (esp. with thin juices). It's OK to position the wick in the top of the channels.
3. 8mm width Japanese cotton wick works well.

Currently, the Goblin comes standard with a 3ml glass tank. A 5ml option will be offered soon.

Cross compatible threading with the Orchid and Kaynotfun?

There are no threads on the Goblin save for the chimney and chimney cap. The deck is smaller than the Orchid's so, no, the chimney wouldn't be compatible anyway. As for the Kaynotfun, I don't have one here to make any comparisons. The deck being smaller is the only minor gripe for me.

I meant how "much".
Ha ha ha, don't be mad, I couldn't resist. Last I heard, $27-28. Not a bad price for a well made (in the USA) RTA. I paid $28 at MVS. I just wanted to give some exposure to a new product that I hope someone here will review.

I love RTA's. I've got an Orchid and 2 Foggers, v4 & v5.
Last week I got a Billow and it kills all my other RTA's on all points.
Now I've ordered a Goblin and am looking forward to building and vaping it.
Then there's the Silverplay that I don't have....yet.
Vape budget shot to hell with all this great hardware hitting lately!

I've heard great things about the Silverplay. Ray Lo Vapes does a comparison between that and the Goblin if you want to check it out:

How the fuck do we even get a silverplay? Last time I checked on vapordna the date they were coming back was feb10, and that date came and went. Now, they are saying feb20, and im sure that date will come and go too.
Id really like to get one, but I may get impatient and settle for something else.

I know what you mean @Steam Powered . When do you draw the line between the slew of new devices? At least until something 'really' new and different comes our way. For the most part, some of these RTAs are very similar and it would probably just come down to personal preference. I usually rotate between an average of three devices. So, technically, I only need three RTAs in my arsenal at a time (until the next generation is born!)

The Goblin been my exclusive device of choice for 3 weeks now..
I do not see any other tank in the foreseeable future that equals this (airflow, clouds, flavor and looks). My only gripe is the smallish tank capacity and how this tank needs to be filled.."slowly"
Dripper like performance easily.
The tank size issue may be solved soon..

It's the Chinese Lunar New Year that has manufacturing held up. They pretty much party the whole month of February with different festivals.

Yeah, sold exclusively by Vapordna?!!! If you really want to hunt this down, Alibaba.com is the largest international distributor. You might not be able to purchase from them but you might be able to find out who they are distributing to. Good luck hunting. If you decide to do this, would you be so kind and post any helpful info? Thanks, Pauly:)

Will you be upgrading to the 5ml when available? Can you give more info on the filling issue because I'm not having that problem. You using high VG?
I don't mind messing around with tiny fill screws but my preference would be to have a filling system comparable to the Kanger Subtank Mini. It would alleviate the slow fill problem and make it easier to fill on the fly.

Yes - I will do the tank upgrade. This is one hell of juice steamer.
I make 50/50 mixes and have to use a syringe type needle tip bottle to fill thru the narrow fill port and do it very slow.
The glass on this tank sits pretty close to the chimney barrel and the liquid moves slowly trying to force you to squeeze hard on the bottle, and if your not careful, you can cause the tank to pressurize too much and leak fluid out thru the drip tip. This 3ml. tank will pressurize quickly.
The glass on this tank could have been a bit bigger to fit better on the tank as far as width goes.[/p;.
I get 5 to 6 hours at work with this tank, and I bought a second Goblin so I can have second flavor and not run out.

mine arrived yesterday, & after ~24 hours w/it i can say that my orchids are going to start feeling lonely..
came w/both the 3ml & 5ml tanks/chimney extension.

Goblin02.jpg
this thing is amazing, only thing i don't love about it is the size of the build deck. i usually run 3mm coils in my orchid but it's just too tight on the goblin.

managed to fit 2.5mm coils & it seems to keep up w/my max vg, or all vg juices w/o issue. not a dry hit yet

I did it the easy way, IMO.

I just signed up at Eciggity and had them notify me by e-mail when it's in stock.

Yea I'm impressed with my Billow too. Can't put it down.
My Goblin came today and I don't know if I'm gonna like it better or not.
The build deck is super tight. I finally got a 26 ga 0.35 build in it after shorting out on the inside of the chamber a couple of times.
And the wicking is going to take some learning also.
Edit: right off the bat I can report that the Billow is a better made piece than the Goblin.
Goblin is by no means junk, but the Billow is very, very well made. It feels like a $100 atty and I paid about $35 for it.

I know what you mean but I have to say the hype is real with the silver play. First atty I'm actually thinking of buying 2 of unless I can find a goblin to compete with it.

Seems like every deck is larger than the Goblin. That's my only gripe with it, but I have to agree with DeadShort about the filling and leaking out the DT. It did happen to me. But it's happened with my Orchid v4, too. I wonder if the 5ml tank might help. People who review it do warn about the small deck and advise using no larger than 26g and maybe 2.5mm at the most. I do enjoy the vape, though.

Mine came with the extra larger tank and chimney and so far no leaks.
The larger glass tank is a bit wider and fits tighter and better in the rings than the smaller one.
26ga 6 wrap 2mm coils is the biggest I've been able to get in it so far without a short.

Yeah, you're right. I got that part wrong about the 2.5mm. But I'm glad to hear about the larger tank. Mine didn't come with one and now I'm wondering if I'll have to pay for it. Wouldn't be fair if buyers are getting them free now, unless you guys paid a little more. Mind if I ask what you paid? and from where?

P.S. @muth 3rd try on my build and was able to get 7 wraps of 26g on a 2mm in there but damn it's tight.
Ohm'd out at 0.4 and it's vaping real nice now that I got the wicking figured out.
It's fiddly but once you get it right it vapes great.

vapenw is where i got mine this past week & it came w/the larger tank & chimney extension. shipping was quicker than expected & i couldn't be happier.

with enough patience i was able to get a 26g build wrapped around a 2.5mm jig w/o shorting, can't recall exactly how many wraps but it came out to around .44 ohms.

@sohkis I've been snow/iced in all day here the mountains of east Tennessee so I've had time to play with mine a bunch. (the Goblin that is lol)
I've found that 8 wraps of 26g on a 2mm or 6 wraps of 26g on a 2.5mm is the limit. Both ohm out to 0.4-0.5.
The tricky part for me is wicking good enough to run 40 to 50 watts. I was filling the juice channels full of cotton and was ok on a mech but when I put it on the Sig and ran the power up it was dry hits over 35 watts. So I wicked it with just a little cotton in the top of the juice channel and that fixed it.
How do you wick yours for higher wattage?

haven't taken it up too high yet as the regulated mod i have is a knock off hana modz 50w box w/a 10amp limit, but it's been doing well @ 30w.

i wick mine like my orchids, cotton just to the upper lip of the juice channels but not down into them. just enough to keep it from leaking, i use either max vg juice (80/20) or full vg.

I'm wicking both my Billow and my Goblin the same Sohkis, Orchid style. Both have identical builds and the Billow keeps up chain vaping at 50w but the Goblin will not. I've re-wicked it several different ways but after two hits in a row the Goblin goes dry and that sucks big time at 50 watts. Goblin is great at 30 watts or on one of my tube mechs tho. Also I vape 70/30 exclusively.
So after a few days with both, for me so far it's Billow for the win. I've actually run it up to 100w for a hit or two and it handled it. Just to hot for me.

A true thanks for your feedback. I too use a Billow, and was all set to order the Goblin when it got back in stock with a certain vendor. I just got notified tonight, it was in stock again. Think I'll pass and just order another Billow.

Love my Billow, but wish for even more airflow. But I don't want to go backwards on several places, just to move forward one step short sighted.

The small build deck was a con, but your feedback was enough to tell me, I wouldn't be happy with the Goblin.

Thanks.

@freemind ..your welcome. The Goblin is decent but in a heads up race it's Billow for the win.
Have you taken the airflow screws out of the base of your Billow?
I just took mine all the way out and put them in the box and I get plenty of air for me.

I had when I first got it. But I had issues with juice leaking all over the top of my mod. It was either leakage or just moisture collecting all over the top.

So I put them in but backed out all the way.

Mine does the same. Just a small bit of moisture under the base after it sits for a while.

I'm having the worst time wicking the goblin! When I do finally get a good wick it seems like the flavor is off. I have a .4 ohm 26g dual micro coil. I'vetried different juice, watts and adjusting airflow. Any suggestions to improve flavor?

I've got the exact same problem. If you figure it out post it! I've wicked mine 6 times using every trick in the book and still get dry hits. Especially above 30 watts.... what.. the.. fuck?

The best results I've had so far is just making sure the cotton barely falls inside the top of the juice wells. It required tedious trimming and was still only good up to about 45 watts. that fixed the dry hits but now the flavor is messed up and im getting a lot of spitback when I hit it. I'm going to try again tonight and I'll let you know if I make any progress. Maybe try a different coil on it to.

I trim the width of the tails down some where it lays in the channels, (yes, it can be tedious), and let it fall to about a third of the way down into the channels.
- kojendo -1/4" strips -2mm coil - I just have to learn to keep chocolate flavorings out of this thing..

Have you guys checked out any of those vids posted on top of the thread? I copied Ray Lo's wick and I didn't have a problem with dry hits but it was not high VG. When I use high VG I sometimes have to cover the airflow and pull to draw it up.
