Will someone school me on mosfets? From what Ive read they basically allow you to use any switch on a mod? Even like a 2v switch on a 5v application?

Yes, they take the amp load off the switch. Well pretty much :)

I use them a lot at work and in my hobbies what do you want to know. metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistors are fun.

IM just looking for a basic understanding of what hey do and how they do it. theyre are basically a relay/fuse that takes the amp load instead of your switch correct

Yes......you got it........they are really a transistor, but think of them just like a relay. They use a low amp signal to switch the high amp supply. There is a small voltage drop as a consequence, but not much............

If you just stuck the switch in between the battery and the coil the strong current can cause the switch contacts to weld themselves together. You'd need to remove the battery or the atty to stop it from firing. There would also be arcing between the contacts when you activate the switch that may eventually reduce current flow to the coil and/or cause the switch to get hot.

What MD said ^^^^^^^^^

The only switches available that can handle the amps required are the size of a loaf of bread! Anyone who tells you otherwise is lying............
